“Let’s maintain normal treatment for now,” Zheng Ren said. “I’ve contacted Chief Pan to see if the hospital can reduce some of the fees. If the patient’s family can’t afford it, I’ll pay for it.”

“Usually when you treat us to a meal, we eat small skewers. Boss, when did you become so generous?” Su Yun jabbed him habitually.

“I feel uncomfortable and unhappy with what has happened,” Zheng Ren said lightly.

Su Yun also agreed with Zheng Ren’s way of doing things. He even had other plans in mind.

He knew that the patient had been just about to die, so he gritted his teeth and inserted the tracheal tube. No one present could be unmoved by such a life-saving action.

He would use as much strength as he could but in the end, it was up to fate.

However, it was also Su Yun’s habit to joke with Zheng Ren.

Although he called him boss, he was honest when it came to his body language. When he saw Zheng Ren’s hardened expression, Su Yun wanted to find all kinds of ways to poke fun at him.

When the two of them left the ICU, Zheng Ren saw the young man kneeling in front of the patient’s parents. He sat weakly on the ground, his eyes lifeless as his forehead continued to drip blood. He looked somewhat miserable.

“Su Yun, take him to bandage his wound,” Zheng Ren said.

“Wait a moment. I’m afraid you might not be able to win this kind of quarrel,” Su Yun said.

Zheng Ren nodded.

Su Yun’s worry was definitely not unwarranted. It was the truth.

The patient’s parents had a natural sense of righteousness.

Zheng Ren was just a stranger whom they had met by chance. He was just a peculiar doctor. What right did he have to decide whether she needed treatment or not?

Zheng Ren did not understand the specific legal provisions. All he had done was spark a moment of righteous indignation.

Now that he had calmed down, he had no regrets. However, when he thought of facing the patient’s cold-hearted family members, Zheng Ren felt a headache coming on.

“Then I’ll bring him to be bandaged. You can deal with the patient’s family members,” Zheng Ren said.

Su Yun was surprised. His eyes were like a light bulb. “Boss, aren’t you too goddamn shameless?”

“It’s alright.” Zheng Ren smiled.

“Oh right. Boss, we still have to get the 64-slice CT scan with 3D-image reconstruction. Sister Zhao is waiting.” Su Yun suddenly recalled this, causing Zheng Ren to have another headache.

However… It was alright.

If he left, the pressure exerted by the patient’s family would definitely be directed to the ICU doctor.

It was not that the ICU doctor did not want the patient to live. During this time, he had to bear countless troubles and even risk being beaten up by the patient’s family. Zheng Ren was afraid that the female doctor would not be able to handle it.

“Tell Sister Zhao that we’ll be there a little later,” Zheng Ren said. “If Sister Zhao is busy, then let’s go tomorrow at noon.”

Su Yun nodded. Zheng Ren wanted to call the patient’s family but it was only then that he remembered he did not even know the patient’s name.

‘Am I being too impulsive?’ Zheng Ren asked himself. The answer was no.

Unknowingly, Zheng Ren had now gone through some inexplicable changes.

What should he do? Zheng Ren felt a little numb.

Forget it. He would just wait at the door. If he forced his way in and carried the patient out, someone would fight them.

Breaking into the ICU and carrying the patient out by force was not unheard of.

Zheng Ren pondered for a moment before immediately giving Fan Tianshui a call, asking him to come up and help him.

While he was on the phone, another call came in. Zheng Ren heard a beeping sound.

There were many calls that night.

He took a look and saw that it was from an unfamiliar number.

Zheng Ren dialed back.

“Chief Zheng, this is Lin Jiaojiao.”

“Hello, Sister Lin.” Zheng Ren was very polite. “I have something to consult with a lawyer. Coincidentally, the lawyer I’ve been in contact with recently is Lawyer Ge from your company. Would it be alright with you to give me his number?”

“Why wouldn’t it be?” Lin Jiaojiao pretended to be angry and reprimanded him. “If you have anything to ask your Sister Lin, I’ll do it as long as it’s within my capabilities, no exceptions.”

“Thank you.”

“No worries.” Lin Jiaojiao felt that Zheng Ren’s voice contained a trace of impatience and anger. She was experienced in the ways of the world and knew this was not the time to talk. Because of that, she immediately hung up the call after she had given him the relevant number.

Zheng Ren was slightly relieved. At the very least, he could consult a professional lawyer.

If he wanted to be tough, he had to stand firm with his reasoning. Otherwise, even if he wanted to spill his blood, he would not be able to find the place.

As they were talking, two people walked over. Behind them was a shabby black stretcher trolley.

“Where’s my daughter? When will she be rolled out?” the man asked.

Zheng Ren looked into his eyes, trying to soften his expression a little. However, he could not do it at all.

“I’m a doctor from Sea City General Hospital. I’ve just finished seeing the patient. I think her illness can be cured,” Zheng Ren said in a deep voice.

“We don’t have the money!”

“No!”

The patient’s parents said the same thing…in different manners.

“Why?” Zheng Ren frowned.

“What do you mean by that? We don’t have to give a reason to you. Who are you anyway? Get out of here. We’re taking my daughter home,” the man said rudely as he glared at Zheng Ren.

“We can talk about money,” Zheng Ren plead. “I can do the surgery. As for the costs…”

“What are you talking about?” The man behind him who was pushing the stretcher trolley took a step forward and berated him, “Hurry up. The roads in the countryside are not easy to navigate. If you die, you have to be cremated. It’s going to be a long night!”

“No!” The patient’s boyfriend came to his senses. His legs were sore and he crawled toward the patient’s parents.

He did not have the strength to beg anymore. He could only use his body to block them for just a second.

Zheng Ren sighed and said, “The patient can still be saved. It’s not to the extent of…”

“I’ve already told you to go to the side. Don’t continue harping on about this!” the man behind the trolley said fiercely. His finger—which was as thick as a carrot—was pointed toward Zheng Ren.

“Sigh…” A big hand suddenly appeared, grabbing the finger that was pointing at Zheng Ren and twisting it slightly.

There was no injury, only pain.

The man’s body twisted into a ridiculous arc, and he had no strength to resist at all.

“Do you know who you’re pointing fingers at and talking to?” It was not until this moment that Fan Tianshui spoke up coldly.

First, he used one move to defeat the enemy. Then, he used the right amount of force. It would not cause any injuries but simply disintegrate the opponent’s combat strength.

He was experienced and skilled.

It seemed that Fan Tianshui had learned a lot during this period of time.

Otherwise, with his previous instincts, he would have definitely been able to defeat the enemy with one move. Even if he did not die, he would be heavily injured.

This was the country, not the battlefield. This meant that if that were not the case, Fan Tianshui would have been imprisoned for a long time.

“He’s here.” Zheng Ren heaved a sigh of relief. With Fan Tianshui around, he could buy some time.

The worst thing was, why had Lawyer Ge not called back yet?

Zheng Ren was not clear about some legal issues, so he could not use force when doing things.

If he was not careful, he would definitely overstep certain boundaries.

“Who are you? Why are you holding me?” The man looked fierce but was weak on the inside. He stepped back slightly, afraid that Fan Tianshui would hurt him.

“Use your words. Don’t argue with Chief Zheng,” Fan Tianshui said seriously before letting go of the fingers he was holding.
