A frantic Wu Yuan tried to rush up to them, only to be stopped by Azurite who said, “That’s my Master’s consort.”
Wu Yuan stopped in his tracks. He could not tear his eyes away from Gu Nansheng, who lay right beside Feng Tianlan. He felt as though the world had stopped moving at that very instant. A dull pain tugged away at his heart.
From behind, Si Mobai embraced Feng Tianlan gently. He reached out and took her hands into his, one in each, intertwining his fingers with hers. He cut off that seemingly endless supply of Spiritual Force pouring into her body, pushing out a spiritual barrier that stopped those forces from closing in.
He locked her fingers tightly in his and put his lips by her ear. Softly and gently in this night rain, he called out, “Lan’er.”
That mild scent of mint hovered in front of her nose. Large hands clasped her icy fingers, sending strands of warmth to her palm and her heart. By her ear, she could hear that familiar cold voice with a hint of gentleness.
All of that lit her world up like a ray of light, illuminating a jaw-droppingly beautiful face filled with tenderness and deep love. He stretched his hand towards her, pulling her out of the darkness.
Feng Tianlan opened her eyes slowly. She still saw those self-combustors in front of her and that stormy rain, which continued to pelt the earth. What was different was that she now felt a sturdy chest on her back, bringing her a sense of security.
“Mobai,” Feng Tianlan called out softly.
Si Mobai grasped her ten fingers even tighter, “I’m here.”
“Mmm,” Feng Tianlan answered softly. His voice had always made her feel safe. With Si Mobai around, she could rest assured. She could do anything.
“Annihilate!” Feng Tianlan ordered in a steely voice while watching the fearful faces of those self-combustors.
It was a simple, single word that floated out of her mouth like a piece of cloud, void of any killing intent. As though it was just a passing comment.
As her voice fell, she gently raised her hand to unleash an immense Spiritual Force.
Boom! The explosion blew those self-combustors apart, instantly reducing them into a fine dust. Not even an ounce of flesh could be seen, just some blood spurting towards the sky which then later fell back to the earth with the rain.
All she could see was red, almost like it was raining blood. Little by little, clarity returned to Feng Tianlan’s eyes. She looked down and saw Gu Nansheng’s body battered and soaked by the rain. Feng Tianlan struggled free from Si Mobai’s arms, dropped down, and hugged Gu Nansheng tightly to her chest. Silently, she let her scalding tears fall together with the rain.
Right now, she needed to vent, so Si Mobai stood by her side and stayed with her in silent company. He raised his hand, forming a spiritual barrier that kept out the rain. His eyes of peach flowers fell extremely cold.
It was only when Feng Tianlan passed out due to pushing herself past her limit, that Si Mobai lifted her in a bridal carry.
Wu Yuan glanced at Si Mobai and felt chills from head to toe. He quickly went up to them and carefully carried Gu Nansheng in his arms. He stared at her tightly shut eyes and the smile frozen on her face. It was as if he was transported back in time when they first met in that little inn by the border.
She asked in a light chuckle, “Are you gay?”
Recalling that scene, Wu Yuan felt that he had lost something from the depths of his heart. His heart throbbed in pain, and he could not help but pull her tightly to his chest. Why did his heart hurt so?
It was already the next day when Feng Tianlan regained consciousness. She opened her eyes and watched the veils hanging from the top of her bed in calmness. After awhile, she slowly asked, “Azurite, what’s the time now? Is Nansheng ready with her makeup? I want to help her into her bridal carriage.”
“Lan’er,” Si Mobai called her name. A slight bitterness spread in him. Seeing Feng Tianlan like that pained his heart.
Feng Tianlan turned her head slightly. Seeing Si Mobai in front of her, her eyes quietly reddened. However, she bit down on her lips harshly and forced a tiny smile while saying, “Nansheng’s getting married today. Crying would be inauspicious.”
