The night sky was dim, not a single shimmer of the stars in sight. Clouds heavily blocked what was supposed to be a beautiful night. Then again, it was never meant to be that way; instead of the color of midnight, the dark clouds reflected a bloody red hue from the sky. That night was nothing but a hellish reminder for everyone who saw it.

It was the night of the awakened Demon God.

The screams of war, the roars of unheavenly beasts, the sharp clang of swords, the splatter of blood– all the things you can associate to a battlefield were present. In order to defeat the evil incarnate of the god of destruction, the Yevian Knights, alongside other alliances, were fighting against the demonic spawns. Arrows, swords, claymores, magic beasts, offense magic, you name it. They were doing all in their power to dispose of each and every one of the malicious monsters while the chosen saviour and his ultimate weapon, the Breath of Creation, infiltrated the castle that rose from the ground. The castle indeed belonged to what one can call a demon’s abode. Despite the destructive chaos occurring just outside of the castle, it remained intact; a reflection of how powerful the demon god’s castle is as it was created by his magic.

Deep into the castle, the demon god was battling with the saviour while the rest of his party held off the enemies coming at them. The fight between the two was rather one-sided at the moment; one swung their sword with absolute power and determination, dodging each attack while the other simply used their hands to deflect rather than dodge, a mocking grin on his lips.

“You know you should try harder if you really want to defeat me,” the demon god spoke, his voice booming in the throne room. “I can just stand here and do this all day. Heh. So much for being the mad hound of the knights.”

The saviour scowled at the mocking god, adding more speed to his attacks. It was only deflected by his hand moving as fast as he. “All you do is talk. Fight me already!” The demon god scoffed, using only his two fingers to grab the edge of the sword, imperial red eyes glowing with malice smiling with his crooked smile. He then held the sword’s sharp edges, sliding his fingers along it, as he approached closer in almost a blink of an eye to the now cautious saviour. Before the saviour could react, the god grabbed his wrist holding the sword.

“Fighting is boring,” The demon god cooed. “I already know the outcome…so why bother?....I’m really tired of this now…” For a second it sounded as though his tone was melancholic, the saviour thought, catching him off guard– Before he knew it, his waist was grabbed by the enemy’s other arm.

“How about…we fight in a…different way this time?”

After such a teasing whisper, the demon god quickly let go, teleported away from the saviour. About five meters to be exact. “Just kidding~ I know you’d prefer to annihilate me rather than have some fun hate fuck.” Holding his ear that got hot for unknown reasons, he glared more intensely at the god, annoyed by how light he is taking the battle right now. To respond to that, the god just winked; that was enough for the saviour to charge at him, the breath of creation glowing in a holy light, “MIDNIGHT!!!” As the Breath of Creation's blade drew closer inches to the demon god's neck it is only stopped with a cling. With all the malice of the world, an aura out of this world made him glow the second he used his arm for defense.

“Too slow~” the edge of the sword did not touch the demon god’s neck, for he teleported quickly up above the saviour. Letting out a demon’s chuckle, Midnight raised his hand, making the gesture of a finger gun. Multiple sigils of the demon god appeared behind him, forming dark but glowing red magic missiles ready to be shot. The saviour swiftly turned, deep blue eyes landing on the demon god. At the same time, the latter aimed his finger gun at saviour.

“Bang!”

Demonic magic missiles immediately blasted towards the saviour. He did not falter however; he calmly activated his own aura, a holy blue light. Chanting an ancient language only those blessed by the Breath of Creation, he skillfully used the said sword to deflect the missiles. The blessed sword now had a fiery blue aura surrounding it. Every deflect caused the missile to randomly hit elsewhere; some towards the demon god and others their surroundings. The castle, although proven to be sturdy, even shook from the impacts of the missiles.

Precision and speed his expertise, he dashed forward and up with his magic. In no time, the saviour was again thrusting his sword towards the demon god. This time, however, magic slashes followed thus the attacks couldn’t just be deflected. Unfortunately for the saviour, Midnight easily dodged each slash by his outstanding swiftness, making it seem as though there were more of him. Due to that, he was able to “appear” just behind the saviour, attacking him with a blast of his magic.

The saviour saw this coming.

He backed away, enough to counter the attack with a sharp slash. The blast split into two then breaking the walls while the holy blue slash went for the demon god. Grinning widely, he crossed his arms, hands open, then brought them far apart to activate a magic blackhole to absorb the attack. Knowing his vision would have been obstructed by the defense he created, the saviour took the opportunity to dash towards the demon god once the blackhole vanished. The latter’s eyes widened, but he returned to his grin. He placed his forearms together, in front of his face, to defend the attack. As this was not expected though, the impact caused the two to fly back with so much force that the castle crumbled once again.

Clouds of dust from the debris caused by the attack formed, ruining the vision of the two enemies for a bit. The saviour had to take a large step back. He kept his stance, coughing a bit of the dust he accidentally inhaled although he did make sure to remain alert.

“Fuuuuck, that hurt, you know!” The demon god whined, his figure slowly becoming visible whilst he walked out of the clouds of dust. When he was seen completely, he rubbed his forearms that had burn marks from the holy aura the Breath of Creation had. “Ahhh! My clothes too… Such a shame, I really liked this outfit too.” He patted his clothes that became dirty and ruined from hitting the building his magic was still trying to keep intact.

Even while Midnight was being rather relaxed, the saviour didn’t budge. Neither was he fazed. “You’re still fighting with all your might,” he tightened his grip on his sword.

The demon god chuckled, shrugging as if it didn’t really matter; this battle didn’t matter. “Now, I have no idea what you’re talking about, dear saviour.”

“Compared to what I have done to you, none of your attacks did a single scratch to me– Are you even as strong as everyone proclaimed?!”

It was no secret how annoyed the saviour was; this was supposed to be the fight of the century, a battle that will make it to the history books! Yet, here was the demon god of chaos, destruction, and evil, acting as if he was merely playing around like a child!

“I am,” Midnight, who was all mischievous the entire time, answered with such a dead tone. “But, what’s the point of being powerful if in the end, I always die?” His imperial red eyes looked away, once again holding the melancholy that confused the saviour earlier. “So, shall  we…finally put an end to this?” He held his hand up, ready to snap his fingers.

Although the saviour was already preparing for the next move, he was definitely not prepared for what came next: the arm, the one the demon god touched earlier before their fight, had a familiar demonic aura around it. Eyes widened, the saviour was too late to process what exactly was going on–

–the demon god controlled the saviour’s arm so that the sword was pointing towards the former.

“K-keugh….Haha..haaaa…That’s..more like it…” Midnight faintly laughed albeit the blood he just coughed out. It made the saviour’s brows furrow with more confusion. The demon god had dashed to the sword, piercing himself. “What in the world is wrong with you?!” The saviour’s piled up frustration mixed with confusion caused him to continue losing his cool temperament which he was known for before this battle.

“......Me?....I told you already….haven’t I?” The injured demon god smiled weakly, feeling the power of the Breath of Creation surging throughout his entire body. It caused immense pain but it was a pain he grew all too accustomed to. In fact, he was glad that he could feel his death approaching faster by the second. “It was time…to end this….but..I’m..ugh…happy.”

“...Happy?”

“Yes…happy…because finally….after all this time, I can… I can..!” Without hesitation, Midnight grabbed hold of the saviour’s hands and pushed the sword further into him. He spat out more blood whilst he closed his eyes from the pain. Meanwhile, the saviour’s eyes widened at the strange action of the supposed malicious demon god. “Why are you–”

The moment the sword blade had reached the base, Midnight looked up at him. “Thank you…For killing me once again…Devlin.” Right after his final words, he used his magic to push back the said saviour with his sword, causing him to fly across the room. Blood began to pour out like a fountain as the demon god fell to the ground. He closed his eyes, a peaceful smile on his lips.

Live anew.

Death has finally arrived for the Demon God, Midnight…

But alas, that moment was unfortunately temporary.

There goes my…Ah, how many times has it been?.. Oh well, it shouldn’t really matter anymore. Midnight opened his eyes and the first thing he saw was a rather familiar ceiling; a ceiling that was obviously left uncleaned for years.  The bed creaked in an annoying way as he sat up, the pain he had felt from the Breath of Creation gone the second his surroundings changed. Glancing at his body he was definitely looking unscathed albeit a tad bit malnourished.

His eyes then absorbed the room he was in. Although, he did have to brush away some of his bangs that covered his left eye. The room he sat in was in a horrible condition; it was just like the ceiling, uncleaned. Then again, this was always a good sign for him. His pale lips grew into a small tired smile.

“I’m home.”
