As everything goes black around me. I hear someone say "Please wait, you will be connected to Yggdrasil shortly."
Seconds after that happens, I find myself looking straight down the road of a town.
The town is very medieval-like. It has stone buildings to both sides of the road. Ones that that are taller than others like inns, others that are houses, and so on. To my right must be the shopping district. Full of stalls selling many things. Meat, vegetables, accessories and many more. To the left is a very large house, more like a manor. It has two floors and a front yard. Made from marble, the house looks pretty sturdy. With two guards guarding the metallic gate to top it off.
Behind me is a white fountain with three layers. Clear water is overflowing from the middle with an elevated part reaching slightly more than two meters. It falls into the basin steadily even as more people start popping in around it, blocking most from watching it.
People around me are popping in, transforming from magically appearing light sparks into themselves. They are probably players that have just entered as well. Some move around instantly after popping in, others take in their surroundings. But the minority is people waiting there, probably waiting for their friends to join in as well.
If it was in the real world, I would say that these people were cosplaying. Some had swords on their backs or on their waists, rogues had a dagger instead, mages carried wooden staves around. Tanks that had large wooden shields on their backs appeared. I found that I had a sword at my waist as well.
I also learned that Demons were a minority, or more like I haven't seen a SINGLE DEMON from these hundreds of players. Are people really that afraid of not being unable to take a hit or two? Is it really that bad? As long as I see the attacks coming, I can dodge them, so what's the problem with not being able to take a hit if you aren't going to be hit in the first place?
Ignoring the questions welling up in my heart, I start moving around, looking for my sister.
I am simply awestruck by this. I have tried VR before, so I know how it feels to walk and move and everything. But in here, it feels so real.
I can feel my feet touching my shoe. I can feel the wind, I can feel, smell, and hear. Unlike the VR headsets I have used, those don't allow you to be able to feel what you are touching, or use senses other than sight and hearing. But here, it is, Different.
I quickly get acclimated to this however, since I have already walked, even if it was not so close to reality as this is. And continue with my task, finding my sister.
After a few minutes, I manage to locate her dressed in a mage's robe. A blue robe while holding a large, wooden wand with both hands. Exactly like many mage players I found have. On top of her head is her username, Milly. I start running towards her while grinning.
This feels so realistic, running...
"Hey!" I call out.
She turns towards me, as do many players, but they quickly resume searching for their friends. They probably though I called out to them.
As I got closer to her, her ears looked pointed.
"You chose to be an elven mage?" I ask, in the middle of the energetic mess that is the players. Even now, many more people are logging in. We are probably well over a hundred in this town alone by now. The crowd of players talking to each other make it impossible to listen to anyone not standing right in front of you.
"Mhm." She nods. Still not talking, even when she is in VR.
I did try other VR devices before this, so I did walk and run before - in VR at least - but she didn't. She is not accustomed to talking because she is mute. As long as she plays the game for a while, she should be able to adjust and talk again.
"So, what should we try first? We can leave the technical stuff to the other players to figure it out, since there will definitely be some testing group that will form sooner rather than later. Maybe we should just head out of town? I mean, I'm itching for a battle already."

She looks at me with eyes that say "Ok".
How do I know, you ask?
Well, because when you live with someone mute, you get to learn what they are trying to say without them having to try to convey it to you. And since we just lived alone for a really long time, I can practically make out paragraphs from her body language. If you thought that observing someone only went as far as reading what their mood is, know what their eyes, lips, hands and other parts of the body are doing while you are talking to them, you are very, very wrong.
That can easily be hidden by not allowing your body to respond to emotions as it usually would, like when you are anxious, you may stutter because you don't feel safe talking to whoever you are talking to.
Instead, I focus on every little detail, from how shallow or deep Rena's breaths are, to how she takes a step when walking around the house. Any type of action taken can contribute to telling you the situation of a person. Staying with a person for a long time can lead to you being able to predict what they will do, and my method of observation only enhances these predictions. This, is how you observe and learn what someone is trying to say before they even say it. A technique I have developed back then.
"Then, lets head out." I say.
We then hastily walk around town to find the exit. Which we find not even five minutes later, and start heading outside.
The "gate", if you can even call it a gate, is basically a big wooden double door, it won't hold up all that well in case of an attack, so this is probably a lower level town, which it should, considering it is the starting town.
There are two guards stationed at the gate, one to the left and the other to the right. They were holding spears with only one hand, both using the hands further from the gate.
"You must be the Invited, right? We have seen you come into here through the light particles." Said the one on the right.
But Invited? I guess it wouldn't be wrong to call us that, since we are coming into their world, I guess that is an alright name. I'm fine with that.
"Yes." I answer back.
"Then it would be important to register into the Adventurer's Guild, as they would provide an ID for you to use. It would make everything easier when it comes to being let in and out of city or town gates. Unfortunately, this town doesn't have one, but if you follow the road, you will find a bigger town with an the Guild. You should choose that as your first destination."
"We will, thank you."
Then they move out of the way and let us leave town.
Beyond the gate is a road. A long, not-well-made one. The road is crudely pressed down, clearly because the only form of pressure applied on it is the random steps of travelers and carriages. The road stretches on for several kilometers, eventually leading travelers to the city the guards mentioned. To the road's right is a forest. The tall trees provide shade for the forest's inhabitants. To the left of the road are grassy plains. There are blobs jumping around the plains here and there. While most of them are green, some of them are brown. Sometimes they are alone, and sometimes they are in groups.
Those must be Slimes.
We begin walking not towards the city, but towards the Slimes. While there is still some distance to cover, so while we close the distance, I check my Status, and I am sure Rena is doing so too.
