Outside the School of Nature:
Teacher Neivin calmly walked towards the group of students.
"What might be the problem here?" - Neivin asked with a calm, yet threatening tone.
The group of students shifted their focus from the fellow student to teacher Neivin. Their expressions quickly changed, their high ego dropped from the skies. It's clear that even they have some respect towards the teacher.
One of the men, the one standing in the front, spoke up for the group.
"We, students of the 'School of Fire', greet Sir Neivin." - The man said, bowing his head slightly, causing the other men to copy his actions.
The sudden change in attitude was rather surprising. The men who were picking on someone, not even a minute ago, were now bowing their head as if nothing has happened.
"You come here, to my school, bothering my students. Yet, you greet me with such respect, as if I would forgive your actions so easily." - Neivin sighed with annoyance in his voice.
Then, a few seconds later, a strong green aura covered him. The pressure of the aura was strong enough to push back anything that was not resisting it. It's almost as if a small tornado was roaming through the street.
This wind...is it his ability? Can he control the wind like this? That's what Leon thought. However, he quickly realized that his assumption was wrong. Next to his teacher, a big Golem, made out of the ground, was building itself. A huge structure-like being, not shorter than 5 meters in height, was created within seconds. Leon, amazed by the ability, seemed to enjoy the scene. The wind disappeared and the students watched in awe.Who would have known that this is his ability? Well, maybe everyone except me. And what was that strong wind before, was it part of the ability?
"You see, I have a short temper. I give you 10 seconds to explain what happened." - Neivin said, smiling at the group.
"You already know the reason, Neivin." - An unknown voice shouted from the sky.
Not even a second passed and a blazing inferno made its way towards Neivin. However, the golem reacted on its own and jumped towards the fire, absorbing it with its arms. Neivin looked at the sky, visibly annoyed by what he saw.
"What are you doing here, Amira?" - Neivin asked, shouting at the sky.
Tsk...even I know that voice. And that thing in the sky, it's a phoenix. There is only one person in this kingdom that has such an ability. 'Infernal Amira', that's her nickname. She's a troublemaker, even for my father.
A majestic bird, the phoenix. It's one of the rarest abilities a person can have, summoning a legendary creature like this. That woman, who is currently floating above the scene with her phoenix, was lucky enough to possess such an ability. She is aware of the strength she possesses with such an extraordinary ability. A true 'headache' for the rulers of this land.
Amira, the woman that is sitting on the phoenix, slowly descends from the sky.
"I really hate that ability of yours. It's like you were made to counter me." Amira laughed, now reaching the ground below.
"If you came here to request a duel between our students again, you can leave immediately." - Neivin said, clearly annoyed by her presence.
Amira jumped down from her phoenix and walked towards Neivin. Now, standing right in front of Neivin and leaning her head down a bit.
"What if I didn't come because of that? Maybe I just wanted to. Spend.Some.Time.With.You." - She whispered, although loud enough for everyone to hear it.
It seemed like her words worked. Neivin, although he tried to resist the charm, blushed.
"Can you believe it? Those two were a couple once." - Maiya said, taking a bite out of a cookie and turning towards Leon.
Leon was surprised. He expected anything but this.
"It's hard to believe. If you look at them like this, their personalities are the polar opposites of each other." - Leon said, now looking at Maiya and wondering where she got that cookie from.
"That's not what I meant." - Maiya said, breaking her cookie into two halves and offering Leon a piece.
"Just look at them. How did teacher Neivin even manage to attract the attention of Miss Amira? He has scars all over his body, is not as muscular as other men, has rather messy hair and his taste in clothes is also not the best. Sure, he has shiny green eyes and is rather tall but...just look at Miss Amira. Even now, she has to lean down a bit. Her long legs combined with her pale white skin, and burning red dress. Her blue eyes and long dark red hair, everything is perfect. I can't believe she chose a man like him." - Maiya continued, finishing up the cookie she was eating.
Leon did not know what to say. It's as if Maiya turned into a completely different person after Amira arrived.
"You seem to like Miss Amira a lot." - Leon said, taking a bite out of the cookie which Maiya gave him.
"I do. I want to become as strong as her. I train every single day, dreaming of turning into a majestic phoenix. Although it sounds silly, I truly believe in my goal and I do think that, at some point, the hard work will pay off." - Maiya said with a bright smile on her face.
Look at how happy she is. Going from a small bird to a majestic phoenix, what a beautiful dream. Leon looked around the scene. It seems like, while they were talking, the commotion settled itself. Even the three young men that seemed to were picking on the fellow student, are now sharing a laugh with everyone. Maybe I did overreact. What a fool I am, almost acted on impulses without reading the atmosphere properly. But am I to blame?
Leon glanced over to Neivin. Amira was whispering something in his ear.
What are they planning?
.....
....
...
*clap clap*
"Attention everyone! We have decided that, yes, we will be holding a quick duel between two students. It will be a friendly match, testing out our strengths and weaknesses. Although I rejected this offer multiple times, it's about time that we face reality and learn to adapt to worst case scenarios. It's not impossible that you, the students of Nature, will encounter a life threatening scenario, where your enemy is someone with the fire attribute. To make sure that you are prepared for everything, even unlikely stuff like this, I ask of you to understand and comply." - Neivin announced to the crowd of students.
"We also decided that we would be doing this on a regular basis. You won't be facing students of Fire only, but also other schools." - Amira added.
If I remember correctly, Maiya told me that the teacher strictly rejected these kinds of duels. And now he is accepting them, just like that? Something seems strange. Are the schools being influenced by the military? But then, I would have known that. There is no way that father would hide something like that from me.
"The 'School of Fire' will send out our newest student. Thus, we ask of you to be fair and do the same. This will be a battle between two beginners." - Amira said, signaling one of her students to come forward.
Neivin walked towards Leon, putting his hand on his shoulder.
"Then, we will also send out our newest student." - Neivin said, gesturing Leon to move forward.
I'm the one who will be fighting? That's rather unexpected. But before Leon could continue moving forward, Neivin leaned in and whispered into his ear.
"I know this is sudden, but I'll be counting on you." - Neivin whispered with a serious tone.

Leon, now continuing to walk towards the middle of the crowd, felt the odd weight of the words. He wants me to win, huh?
Now, with both of the students readying themselves for the duel, everyone watched as both of them started talking with each other. The students of Nature had no expectations. A student of Fire against flower boy, the result is obvious, right?
"I'm Brad, a new student at the 'School of Fire'. My ability is basic control over flames. What about you, Mr. Mysterious?" - The man said, introducing himself to Leon.
"My name is Arvon. My ability...it's creating flowers." - Leon sighed, slowly taking a fighting stance.
Controlling fire, huh? Let's see...what's the quickest way of dealing with this guy? Leon then turned towards his teacher.
"Are weapons allowed?" - Leon asked.
Neivin looked at Amira. Both of them shrugged their shoulders.
"Sure, we'll be paying close attention and intervene if it gets dangerous." - Neivin answered.
This will be fun. Let's see if I can apply what I learned in combat. He then took some of the soil below him and hid it under his robe, secretly growing a plant without anyone noticing. Man, do I have a surprise for you.
"Since both of you seem to be ready...the duel starts now!" - Amira announced.
Brad, not taking off his eyes from Leon, did not move. The reason was obvious. Why would Leon ask if Weapons would be allowed, if he is not wielding a weapon himself? Could it be that he is hiding it in his robe? However, this doesn't stop Brad from using ranged attacks.
"Come on, I'll even give you the first strike. Don't be scared." - Leon provoked Brad.
Brad, who seemed to be annoyed by Leons words, focused his energy into one big blazing ball. With a big bang, Brad shot a wall of fire towards Leon.
Beginners like these...are too easy!
Leon, not missing a split-second, pulled out a dagger from his robe and threw it through Brads attack, targeting Brad directly.
A surprised Brad, who now had to avoid a burning dagger directed at him, lost sight of Leon while dodging. It's moments like these that decide the fate of a battle. Taking your eyes off your enemy, even for a second, will cost you the win. And Leon was well aware of this. Using that moment of distraction, he dodged the flames and charged directly at Brad, who was still in disarray.
"You are finished!" - Leon shouted, closing the gap between him and Brad within seconds.
Brad, trying to regain his balance, shot yet another blast, not even aiming properly. He fell for it again. Leon threw himself to the ground, sliding towards Brad and drop kicking him into his right leg.
"Aaaargghhhh!" - That was the only sound Brad could make, covered in pain and losing complete focus.
Victory.
Leon stopped sliding. He quickly took out the flower he secretly grew earlier, smashing it into Brads leg. The thorns of the flower enabled it to stick to its target without falling out.
Brad finally fell to the ground.
"You...what have you done!" - Brad shouted, trying to pull himself together.
"I won, that's what I've done." - Leon said, standing up from the ground.
The crowd watched in shock. The expression on Neivins and Amiras face was a mixture of amazement and shock.
"Aren't you going to finish your enemy? What if he strikes you while you are this relaxed?" - Amira asked Leon, giggling at the situation.
"Strike me while I'm relaxed? I doubt that he can do that." - Leon said, turning towards Brad.
"I...can't move?" - Brad said, his nervousness could be heard in his voice.
"Did you really think that I smashed a flower into your leg, just to damage you with its thorns?" - Leon asked ironically.
"The Silver lotus, who would have thought that you would use it that way. A flower that can paralyze anything that touches its thorns. " - Neivin said, visibly amazed by Leons actions.
"I must say, that was definitely not an honorable way of fighting. However, in situations were youre life is on the line, winning is everything. You are truly an interesting fellow." - Amira congratulated Leon, and started walking towards the paralyzed Brad.
"And you Brad, losing this quickly, you have much to learn." - Amira added.
Neivin walked over to Leon and put his arm around his shoulder.
"Who would have thought that one of my students would beat someone from the 'School of Fire'. Especially someone with such a simple ability, your fellow students should really learn from you." - Neivin said, patting Leons shoulder.
"I just know how to deal with people like him. However, I realized that my ability may have more uses in combat than what I originally assumed. I'm looking forward to your lessons, teacher." Leon said, enjoying his clean victory.
Of course I would know how to deal with ability users. I'm the prince after all. I did not waste my years and trained to my absolute limit. Receiving royal education in combat and having an iron-like determination is why I am this strong. However, everything has a limit. That's also true for my strength. I can't fight truly strong opponents who are smart enough to not fall for my small tricks. To beat people like that, I have to figure out the strengths of my ability.
Neivin joined Amira, who is currently treating the injured Brad. Maiya walked over to Leon, a hint of worry was visible on her face.
"You know, that was dangerous." - Maiya said, now standing next to Leon.
"I wouldn't have done that if my odds of succeeding were slim." - Leon said, putting his hand on Maiyas head.
"I also overheard something while you were fighting. It seems like Miss Amira is interested in Neivin again. They were talking about some sort of bet. Teacher was really excited when he saw you win." - Maiya said.
"Is that so?" - Leon asked, watching the students laughing and joking about the fight.
So that's why he wanted me to win...what a joke.
He then turned his head towards Maiya. Maybe she is not that annoying...
