I almost stood up to try and take her place, but due to the gazes from my parents, I stayed rooted in my seat.
//Don't worry Oppa, I'll be sure to win, after all, I've been training for this moment.//
My first thought after hearing this was 'What? She's been training?!', but then, I realized that I never knew what she did all day when I had my week long study sprint sessions.
So, she must have been training in some type of fighting this whole time.
At least, now, I had the answer as to why there was always an undercurrent of guilt in her emotions whenever she talked to me. I had always thought it was due to the fact that she had never told me that she was a transmigrator, but now, I knew the real reason.
'We're definitely going to have a long talk later.'
Thinking this, I sat back whilst watching my sister walk onto the dance floor with a sword in her hand.
After all, even though I wasn't happy about this, I had full trust in my sister's ability, or she wouldn't have been that confidant when she had reassured me.
All I could do was inwardly grumble on the inside.
Well, long story short, she won, in a landslide.
At the beginning, the Azeal girl had flaunted her newly awakened class, "Elementalist" and had tried to intimidate my sister by summoning winds, earth, water, and fire, but my sister had just stood there, composed and indifferent.
Then, at the sound of the referee starting the match, my sister moved.
In less than a second, the blade of her sword was resting against the Azeal girl's neck, and she had won.
And, somehow, I had been able to see all her movements, whilst many of the other children had just stared in awe.
All the adult nobles nodded their heads in admiration after seeing exactly what she had done, as most of them were (C) rank or higher. I guessed my sister's show was impressive for her age.
But still, this didn't explain how I, an unawakened person, was able to see her movements clearly when some of the teenagers around that had already awakened still couldn't see her movements, this fact evident by the shocked looks on their faces.
Well, after that, we left, as the Endendyk house had shown how they had, not only one, but two geniuses this generation.
Needless to say, the atmosphere on the carriage ride back to our estate was a lot more jolly than the ride to the coming of age banquet, with both our parents raining down heavy praise on us for being such little geniuses.
We were all happy.
...
Two Years Later:
This was the day of the tragedy.
The day the demon was born.
And the day that I would never forget.
It was the day that we were going to be awakened.
For some reason, Eve had been sent to the awakening room first, even though I was the oldest, but I didn't question anything, as I was too blinded by my happiness of finally being able to awaken and get my status window.
You see, when nobles reached the age of 10, they would go into an awakening room and "Awaken" to their status window, which their particular god would gift them.
On the status window would be a class with its rarity, the person's stats measured from (F) to (S) rank, and the person's skill, which was unique to everyone in this world.
These were the things that I had learned about the status window from my studies, as not much else could be found on the subject due to a monopoly over it by the nobles.
Anyways, as my sister came out of the awakening room with an excited smile on her face, I couldn't help but congratulate her whilst refraining from asking her about her occupation, as it would be revealed tonight at dinner, when she showed it to our parents.
Oddly, although a smile was plastered on her face, she was feeling extreme worry for some reason. (She still hadn't figure out how to turn the connection off yet.)
But, strangely, as I walked up to the awakening room, the guard told me that we would have dinner first, before I could proceed with my awakening.
I found this odd, but didn't question it and walked hand in hand with Eve to the dining room.
Then, as we walked into the dining room, another strange thing happened as I was sat at the other end of the rectangular table, facing my dad, whilst Mom and Eve were sitting on either side of him at the other end.
But still, I just thought that this was because of something due to the nature of today, so I happily complied.
The food was served and we started eating, but, unlike usual, we were eating in silence.
Once again, I just thought that this was due to the excitement that our parents were suppressing, so I thought nothing of it.
I don't know how many years I would spend wishing that I had just paid a little more attention to this day, and to every single day that I had spent in this world for the past 10 years.
But, as the past couldn't be changed, here was the full, uncensored story.
As the dinner came to an end, my dad was the first to break the silence as he cleared his throat.
"Ly, we have something we want to tell you."
Hearing the tone of his voice, I couldn't help but think that something ominous was coming.
"D-did I do something wrong?"
"N-no... but, my son, I have something to tell you."
I sat there, unconsciously leaning forward, as I knew that whatever was coming next was important.
"You see, back during the founding of the land and country, our god, the Goddess of Knowledge, had given our family a prophecy."
Intrigued by what I heard, my ears perked up, but I was also confused, as I didn't know why this pertained to me.
"It goes like this:
When the eastern wind dies and the deserts rise
A cursed child will be born unto this land.
Bearing the mark of the demon, he will ravage the kingdoms of man
But, as the demon rises, so will the hero, the demon's own kin
And once they meet, the demon will turn to dust, and the eastern winds will blow again."
I froze after hearing this, as an impossible conclusion came to my mind.
"I'm sorry Ly, but your sister has just awakened the job, "Hero"."
"Badump!"
A singular heartbeat that resonated throughout the entirety of my body and I dropped the cutlery in my hands, my body frozen.
"That must mean you are the demon."

"Badump!"
A high ringing sound could be heard in my ears.
"So we will be confining you to an estate in the north until your sister grows enough to be able to take care of you. This is the best option for everyone."
"Badump!"
My body started shaking as I started spasming.
"I'm truly sorry Ly, but you are a danger to everyone around you, and so you will never be allowed to awaken."
"BADUMP!"
I didn't hear anything more as my blood rushed to my head and my vision turned red.
Then, I remembered, what I had forgotten in my past life.
My skills returned.
And all I could feel was rage.
Grabbing the knife and fork that I had been using in each hand, I jumped onto the dining table and ran towards the other end, true hatred and killing intent flashing in my eyes.
My mind had snapped.
Two butlers immediately jumped onto the table and tried to restrain me.
But, with one singular 360 spin, their throats were cut, and their blood spurted everywhere.
I heard some screaming, and the sound of chairs being scraped against the floor, as my family tried to flee.
More servants tried to subdue me, but they were no match, as I slaughtered every living thing that stood between me and my goal.
My "true" past was finally of use to me.
But then, as I reached the other end of the table, I found my sister there, her sword drawn, the tip pointed at me.
Smiling like a madman, I knew that I could only drop the cutlery, as I could feel from our mental connection that she had known all of these things, and yet she had never told me.
She had betrayed me, but I still couldn't hurt her, not one bit.
Even though my devastation knew no ends, I still cherished my memories with her, and, I knew deep in my heart that I could never lay a single unwanted finger on her.
So, I croaked out these final words to her.
"I... always loved you all... so why? Why me?" I pleaded, in a resigned tone.
I never got an answer in words, but her feeling were more than enough.
Finally, I felt something hitting my head, and I blacked out.
<Eve's POV>
I hoped that he understood me in those last few moments.
I had tried to transmit my intent through our mental connection.
He must have understood that, looking at him rage, and how there were countless bodies in his wake, I knew that I had to leave him.
I didn't want to, but if I wanted to stay with him for the rest of my life, then I needed to get stronger, strong enough to stop him in case anything happened.
And this meant separating myself from him.
I needed to find a way to cure him.
At least a way to stop or slow his transition into a demonic being.
I would beg on my knees if I had to.
I had to find a way to save Oppa.
After all, he was the most important person in this whole wide world to me.
I had been lost after getting transmigrated, but he had always been there for me, guiding me through life.
That was why, I needed to repay this debt.
As it was a debt that no one could bear.
A debt that could never be repaid as it was made between siblings, a pact forged in blood where debts were meaningless.
But I would do it anyways.
That was the least I owed him.
After all, Ioved him.
...
I cried myself to sleep that night.
It was a special day after all, and so I shouldn't have been alone in bed.
But then... Why was I alone?
Because I had made it this way.
I was now truly alone in this world.
My guiding light was now gone.
But this darkness would only forge me into a stronger person.
So that, one day, I could grasp that light once again, and bask in its warmth.
'Oppa, please, don't lose your light, wait for me to get to you. I promise that I will make it in time, so please please please don't ever lose a battle.'
And, maybe it was just my imagination, or it was something more, but I heard a voice in the back of my mind, resounding, filling me with a sense of purpose I never knew I had.
//I'll be waiting...//
