It was still early in the morning as a cool breeze filled the surrounding area.
Birds wearing the thousand-coloured feathers chirped happily, they not too long ago returned from a long journey and tried to find the best spot for a nest.
Flowers bloomed in the neatly arranged garden, with their aroma enticing all kinds of insets to gather around them.
Everything was telling that it was spring, a time when all life returns from its slumber.
Lukewarm sunray pierced through the large window of the Victorian-styled mansion. It landed on the large bed on which laid a little child, who was still wandering in dreamland.
Suddenly his long golden eyelashes moved as he tried to open his eyes.
---
“…Huff~Huff~Huff…”
“Ughh…Wh-where am I?”
I muttered as I had not grasped the situation yet.
My head hurt like hell as I tried to remember anything while clenching it with both hands.
Suddenly abrupt pictures flooded my conscience as I saw the plane salon and passengers panicking and screaming, and then – darkness.
‘Oh, now I remember…’
After my promotion, I boarded a plane to the capital, and while I was reading a new novel "Legend of Unyielding Spirit", engines started to erupt in flames, and then…
‘So, I died?’
‘B-But why am I still alive and kicking?’
“Damn it! Damn it all!”
‘Just why the hell it had to happen when everything was going so good?! I worked so hard for that position, if there is a God of justice then he or she must hate me with passion, and that is mutual!’
I calmed down a bit and checked my surroundings, it definitely was not heaven, but the standard wasn’t too far away.
My still dizzy head tried to process the presented view. The masterly carved canopy bed on which I set, was placed in a large room, filled with expensive decorations and furniture made of redwood.
From the left side were giant windows, through which one could see beautiful scenery.
‘What is this strange place? Is this some kind of European castle?’
I got off the bed and went to the mirror that previously caught my eye.
Arriving before it finally my reflection could be seen, which left me speechless for a second as I then unintentionally cursed.
“What the…”
---
Before me, could be seen a young boy in his pyjamas with pictures of cute animals on them, probably four or five years old. He had long dirt blonde hair which touched his shoulders, while his beautiful facial features could be envied by any girl, not to mention crimson red eyes which shone like rubies.
‘Is this me?’
‘But why am I a little kid now? No wonder everything felt so huge and I even struggled to move around like usual. Even my voice became so high-pitched’
‘Wait, come to think of it, I somehow remember this face, It is just somewhere in my memory’
And then like lightning sudden realization struck me.
‘This is just like how one of the second-rate villains looked like in that new novel -"Legend of Unyielding Spirit", Maximilian Venet, but by the way, he also was much fatter…’
‘No, it is not time to think about this, because I am screwed! At one moment I die in a plane crash and seconds later I find myself in the world of swords and magic, and what is the most unsettling… Didn’t this bastard die at the hands of the main character and his crew? Oh god, just what in the world did I do wrong to be sentenced to death after reincarnation?!’
My brows knit tightly and for a few minutes, I fell into deep thoughts about what to do now.
In the end, I decided that everything was not that bad, because to avoid disaster I just needed to avoid acting like a villain. It was not that hard considering that I was not such a bad person, to begin with.
But there still was a big problem – Of course, Maximilian was quite villainous by nature, but the main reason for his terrible deeds was the cult of Old Pantheon.

They threatened him and even secretly drug him with some kind of mind-destroying elixir, to control him easier and grab his family assets and power. So, if I want to stay alive then first I must deal with them, and for this, great power is needed, much more than I have right now. But before that…
“System! Screen! Guide! Something!...”
I suddenly screamed as if waiting for something to appear, but my attempts were futile.
I have read many of those fantasy novels, therefore I thought that receiving some sort of those system thingies was not out of line, but to my big disappointment, I was left all by myself in this big and new world.
‘Well, it looks like I am really unlucky, in this case, I will just start by gathering useful information because the original novel should start about ten years from now, as I am around four years. Right now, I knew almost nothing about my current situation and circumstances, except for some names and common sense. Maybe Max’s original conscience just disappeared, or he was degenerate, to begin with… Let’s check if on that bookshelf will be anything interesting, but before that, I probably should change my clothes, in case someone comes here’
I opened a giant wardrobe where all kinds of clothes were accurately arranged, therefore I had a hard time finding something of my taste, not saying that it was bad in any way, but sometimes too wide of a choice is also frustrating.
After changing into a brown professionally tailored suit with a red butterfly which emphasized my eyes, I took the first book that I saw on the bookshelf and opened it, to check if I can at least read in this world, and surprisingly I could understand those unknown letters with the strange writing style.
‘Well, looks like Max at least knew how to read, at least as noble’s child he didn’t fall too low’
By the way, my situation was not half-bad. My soul was not wandering in some kind of void or at least didn’t disappear. Plus, now I was the son of duke Venet and heir of one of the greatest dukedoms, therefore I have access to a monstrous amount of resources to get stronger. It could be said that I was given a second life.
“Maybe after all of the hardships in the beginning, I can live a happy life? Yes, happy and steady life…”
“…Sigh”
There still was a long way to go.

In the spacious corridor of the mansion, light steps could be heard.
A petite girl of age around ten, with hair colour resembling sunrise and amber eyes, wearing a maid’s uniform was heading towards a certain door.
She was a trainee maid, and for the ability to learn quickly she was appointed to look after the young lord of House Venet.
While walking, many thoughts went through her mind, because it has already been two months since she was assigned this role, but she just could not find a common language with the little boy.
‘Which clothes should little lord wear today? Or before that, how should I wake him up?’
‘Will he curse me again? But even so, he is such a cutie so even it does look cute coming of him’
And finally, after some time, she approached the big double door.
*creack
Slowly opening it to not make too big of a commotion, she saw the boy, who would usually sleep until he becomes really hungry. Sitting on a sofa, while wearing a neat attire, he was reading a book on which’s cover was written in golden letters -“Commonalities and Traditions of Eastern Suir Continent”.
“Good morning young lord Maximilian, as I see you have already woken up”
“Yes, good morning Lily”
At that moment the face of the little maid was overwhelmed with shock for a moment, as she had never heard such a normal greeting from Max who was a sleepyhead and hated when someone disturbed his morning nap. Usually, he would throw some harsh words and make fun of her, while she tried to wake him up and put clothes on him. Even though before she didn’t really care, such a change in attitude was surprising and made her happy, so the corners of her mouth raised up a little bit.
“Umm, Lily are you alright?”
Max’s words of concern helped Lily to snap out, so she bowed her head and proceeded to deliver information.
“….Ah, Uh, Yes young lord, I came to say that breakfast is ready and Lord and Milady are waiting in the dining room”
“Thank you for informing, I will go right now”
“By the way, can you tell me which year and day it is today?”
“It is the 12th march of the year 1021 by church’s calendar”
While answering, inwardly she felt confused and curious by this sudden question, but she didn’t show it.
Little smile calmed on Lily’s face, as she went beside him.
And so, Maximilian Venet’s new life began.
