It's a story heard often enough, I suppose. I, Isabella Ally Rottenstein, 3rd daughter of a duke, have managed to remember my past life.
In my previous world, I was just a regular Japanese woman. I had been a single, 28-year-old, working as a receptionist at a call center. But now I find myself in the otome game, "Love Magical"! I am currently living as a a citizen of the Rozelia Kingdom. And, what's worse, I am currently in the 6-year-old body of the villainess from that game!
Yup. It's a frequently told story... Ahhh, am I just supposed to grin and bear it? Something like this??? How did I even end up here!? I... did I... die??? But how??? And to start with, aren't otome games purely fictional? It's just too weird that I ended up in a world straight out of a game! And why did I have to become a noble-girl villainess just like the plot in those light novels? Isn't the trope of a Japanese person slipping into another world woefully overdone yet? I curse this stupid fate of mine!!! ....But I digress.
Anyway, because I managed to regain my memories, my personality has also reverted back to what it was previously. Typically, if we were following the template of these reincarnation stories, I would have regained my memories because I hit my head on some rock. Or, they could have come back when I had my first face-to-face meeting with my intended fiance, the prince. But my story is different.
It all happened when my parents summoned a merchant they had been acquainted with to our house. They had been looking for a present to send to my oldest sister who had moved to the neighboring country to marry their prince. And that's when I saw him; a boy, squatting by the merchant's wagon, and watching the ants as they walked by in a line. He was the merchant's son, and despite having never met him before, I somehow recognized him.
It seems that I had seen him 9 years ago, in a game called, "Love Magical". He had appeared as a character in the National Magic Academy, the son of a successful merchant, named Ursch-kun. Family name: unknown.
Incidentally, he wasn't a capture target.
I'll say it again. He was NOT A CAPTURE TARGET.
To be blunt, he was a support character. He sold support items for points won from mini-games. These items could help players during events to win the heart of the capture targets. In other words, he's nothing but a mob character. Part of the background. He doesn't even show up in the main scenario of the story like the other capture targets.
But, in my previous life, he was my ideal man: Light brown, almost beige, soft and fluffy locks. Baby-faced with a meek, gentle sort of air. And those eyes! Slitted in such a way that you really couldn't tell if they were open or closed.
At first I thought that they looked closed due to the faint smile always on his face. But then, even when he showed his surprised face because I had managed to get a rare S rank item from the gacha, his eyes stayed like that, so I figured that was just their default look.
So cute! He heals my heart. Somehow, he kind of looks like a sheep. <3
I initially started playing the game just because a friend wanted the item you could get through the "invite a friend" promo. I was just going to register for it, and that was it, especially since none of the capture targets really interested me, but then I saw Ursch-kun and my heart leapt! He was the only reason I started logging into the game.
I played the mini-games over and over again just to gather points to buy items so that I could see the illustration of his smiling face and hear his, "Thanks for always coming in!" On the off-chance that I obtained a rare item from the gacha, he would bless me with his angelic chibi form, saying, "congratulations~" and ringing a victory bell for me. And, for that tantalizing S-rank rare item, I cut down on my food money in order to play even more gacha. But not for the item, of course! And, not even for that cutely surprised look on his face. It was all for that R-rated (omitted) illustration!
Ah, I loved that game. Although it was free to play, they charged you for special items and things like playing the gacha. Despite paying for a free game and not playing it in the intended fashion, I kept up my ferver for it with the expectation that Ursch-kun would one day become a capture target! It got to the point where I had grown dangerously thin from spending most of the wages I saved for food on the game.
It was really not a great situation since I was living alone in an apartment. At the end there, I had no nutrition left in my diet and had grown unsteady on my feet. My last memory is from having collapsed on my bed, unable to eat or drink or even cry out for two days... ....................................................................................... !!!!!!!! I guess I really can guess how I died.
Malnourished, I starved to death! At a time when Japan was in an era of gluttony no less!
... I guess, for now, let's just try to forget about that, shall we? There's nothing I can do about it now, anyway. ........... Wait a second.... Isn't this my chance???
I'm in THAT otome game right now! The real Ursch-kun is literally right there!
His life is passing him by as he is eagerly waiting to give me the chance to "capture" him! I mean, we are in the same world now! AHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! I want to see him from up close!
Ursch-kun as a little boy! <3 I want to breath the same as as him! (T/N ......)
As soon as I thought that, I started inching closer to where he was squatting. "Hey~, what are you looking at?" I asked despite knowing full well he was looking at a line of ants. (Hey! Leave me be! I didn't know how else to start the conversation.)
At my voice, the young Ursch-kun raises his head to look at me. Even as a child, his eyes still look closed. (Though that's what I expected.) So cute.
It must have seemed strange that I suddenly called out to him like that so he is gazing at me blankly (or at least, I think he is. With his eyes, it really is hard to tell). So cute! Awwww!
Oh my goodness, and now he just tilted his head to the side in confusion. Just adorable! I love it!
He tilted his head so forcefully that his fluffy hair bounced. Simple precious! I can't stand it!
".............Ants?"
He sounds so confused. So cute! I just can't!
He even phrased his answer like a question! How cute can someone get?! I love him!!!!
"Ahhhhhhhhh! You are just too cute!! Such a darling! Please let me marry you!!!"
Without even trying to hold back my feelings, the stupid me just flung caution to the wind and proposed on the first meeting. Ursch-kun couldn't seem to do anything but gape up at me. Honestly, I'm dying. He is just too adorable! As I stand there, waiting, my clenched fists start shaking from the absolute anguish of his cuteness.
And then, finally, the young and adorable Ursch-kun shows me a timid smile and says, "Sure~ Be my bride when we grow up. I'll hold you to this, you know?"
