Suppressing my excitement, I thought about my choices for a few minutes, but in the end, it wasn't really a choice. There was only one ability I could pick at this point.

Telepathic Shield.

I needed something to protect my mind, as I was sure that a few minutes ago when this body had awakened to a mutant ability with such incredible potential, it should have definitely alerted a certain Professor and others.

Omega-level abilities are incredibly rare after all, which also came with its own problems of the attention they gathered.

Still, before I made a hasty decision and just gained protection for my mind, I thought about how I could get the most out of this chance. I also knew that it would probably be a long time before I could get myself another Omega-level ability.

In the end, I settled for the ability to not just shield my mind, but to give me the ability to create shields of all kinds. Not just mental shields, but also protective shields that I could use to protect myself and forcefields that could be used to trap my opponents. Though I made sure to set the telepathic shield as a passive ability, which originated from this power.

I knew that it could take years for normal mutants to gain control over their power and excavate their potential and I had no plans to wait that long for a protective shield for my thoughts.

Without hesitating any longer, I directly activated my Self-Creation and willed it to grant me the mutant power to form and manipulate shields.

I imagined how they would look and what I could do with them, as I tried to input as much detail into the creation process as I could.

Surging heat started to pulse through my body and gathered in my brain before a searing pain shot through my head and made me faint without the slightest resistance.

As I slowly opened my eyes sometime later, I threw a quick glance at the digital clock on my nightstand while sitting up straight again.

'Only two hours have passed, that's alright I guess.', I thought, as I felt an invisible barrier in my mind, already shielding my thoughts from others.

A relieved sigh escaped my lips, as a burden that I didn't know had been there, was lifted from my shoulders. I hadn't felt it that clearly before, but worry and fear had silently crept around the edges of my mind. And now that I knew that my mind was safe from intrusion, I could feel them vanish.

Curious about my new power, I stretched out my hand and focused on what I wanted to achieve, and suddenly a circular and blackish-transparent membrane appeared in my palm with a width of roughly two feet.

Looking at the supernatural feat that I had just performed, my breath halted momentarily.

It was now that I truly realised that this wasn't a dream but reality. I had truly gotten a new chance.

A moment later resolve settled in as I clenched my fist, which caused the barrier to contract and encapsulate my hand.

'Make something out of yourself. Create yourself … This time, I will do it.', I vowed silently in my heart.

I spent the next few minutes playing around with my new power, trying to familiarise myself with it and gain better control over it. I was completely absorbed in it before I finally managed to turn my attention away.

I needed to find out some more about this world.

The year was 2009 and I knew that I was currently living in a cheap apartment in Queens, New York, and that I currently had summer vacation, which meant no school for a few weeks.

Turning around, I started up my laptop, which took only a few moments as it was a rather pricey model.

Trying not to activate any tracking mechanism, I just searched for the history of the last hundred years and some current economical news which were pretty generic topics.

Though what I read on the web pages was anything but generic.

Captain America, Stark Industries, Frost Enterprises.

'Holy sh*t… '

For a moment I didn't know what to think before I finally understood the graveness of my situation.

I wasn't just in a world full of mutants, I was in the f*cking Marvel Universe, or at least somewhere that was vastly similar to the original.

This life was no longer about a relaxing journey to power so I could enjoy my freedom.

The knowledge I had about the Marvel Universe from the movies and the bits and pieces I knew from the comics, meant that I found myself in one big death game.

The uncountable threats and overpowered beings roaming this Universe caused a chill to run down my spine.

Calming myself down, I realized eventually that I had no reason to panic or fear what was to come, much less to curse at the one who sent me here.

I had wanted this chance, desperately at that. So now I had to live with the consequences of my choice.

Nothing was free after all and the price for my second chance seemed to be that I had to try and survive here.

Still, now that I had a clearer understanding of the kind of danger that I was currently facing, I knew that I couldn't stay here any longer.

I had no idea how many organizations from the original Marvel Universe existed here but I was sure my awakening had been noticed already, which meant I had to leave right now and find a place where I was safe, at least temporarily.
