Chapter 1: Chapter 1 Making the Deal

There were many small villages through the lands, and most were subjected to raids from various other kingdoms and . There were reports of villages being burnt, the men and children killed, the women raped and then killed. It was a horrible time to be a villager or anyone who did not live beyond the castle walls.

Something had to be done, of all the villages will end this way. The village council of Wellspring sat and deliberated wondering how they could protect their village.

"There are too many of them," Wymond said. "Most aren't even human. How are we to stop orcs, ghosts, Minotaurs and who knows what else?"

"Maybe stopping them is the wrong idea. We might need to make a pack with certain tribes. Maybe there is something we can offer them so we can be under their protection," Alaric said.

"What could they possibly want? They burn everything and kill things. It is only a matter of time before they come here," a man standing at the front of the room said. He looked like he was incharge, possibly the mayor.

A woman was sitting in the back of the room. She hated these meetings. The men think they are in charge of everything and never let the women on their council. She smirked and stood up, "Maybe we should ask them. Set up a meeting with each tribe that lives near us and ask them what they would want in return for protecting us." She smiled as she stood before them knowing she shouldn't be there but she had their attention.

"You want us to set a meeting up with them? Are you serious? So you know how dangerous that is?" The man in the front of the room questioned her.

"We have to meet with them anyway. We have to set this up and we need their input, so yes I am serious, are you?" She knew she had him. She knew he couldn't deny her, I mean he never denied her before so why would he start now.

Richard shook his head, "My dear, what you are suggesting is dangerous." His wife was a lovely woman, and she did have a point. They would have to net with these creatures but he did not want to be there.

"Yes but you have to meet with them anyway. So why not ask them what they want, and then we can see if it's something we can do for them," Millie wondered what these creatures could possibly want but she noticed she never saw any females, at least she had not seen any females in the creatures that live near their village.

Richard looked around the room at the other men who were there, "Fine but you are not going to be at that meeting." He looked around the room knowing the others did not want her at this meeting let alone the one with the creatures. "Now Millie, if you would wait outside, so we can continue this meeting."

Millie sighed and stood up and walked out, slamming the door behind her.

Richard frowned. He knew he would pay for dismissing his wife later, but he had to show the council that he was in charge, not her.

The doors finally opened, as members of the council walked out. "He is waiting for you," Alaric said to Millie. She had been standing outside pacing back and forth waiting for their council meeting to be over.

"Thank you Alaric," Millie said with a smile.

And like that a deal was struck with not just one group of creatures but the entire Monster world, if that is what you call it. The townspeople of Wellspring had no idea what to call them or how many there were, but a deal was struck and they had to follow it.

And that was the deal, when the women came of age, they would act as escorts to these creatures. That was their job for about 10 years or so, while they were in their most fertile years. Of course, it was rather difficult to become pregnant when you are a human and your partner is a ghost, or a lizard thing, but over time babies were born and they were all males and all looked like their fathers. The women of the town didn't understand it, they should have been half human, but they weren't. It made no sense to them, but this is how they kept their village safe. After their ten years were up, and they had given birth, some multiple times, then they could return to their lives. This meant they could marry the local men now, and start their own families.
