Vidic was not having a good day, the entire operation seems to have been cursed by Nix, the God the Luck. The day had started well off, with his entire group fully ready and prepared to capture the village of Saddlestone. He had even convinced that oaf, Canor, to join the operation. A feat in itself since glorious leader only thought about drinking and fucking the whores that had joined the group. It was supposed to be a simple operation that would have allowed them to solidify their position in the region and give them a more permanent operating base. With the frequent raids by other bandit groups in the region, there had been a drop in prosperity and now villages didn’t even have enough coin to draw in mercenary companies to protect them. It was time to strike fast and consolidate their position. Saddlestone, being the largest village, was a prize certainly worthy of his attention.
The informant had sent word that Tali had dispatched some of the village’s strongest combatants to accompany her grandson to Goltan, the county’s capital. With the merchant Xavier to depart this morning along with his house guards and hired mercenary company as well, the village was ripe for the taking. But then everything went to the abyss! First, that imbecile spotted that wench near the forest and let his pecker do the thinking. Second, the merchant had inexplicably delayed his journey by a day. Now, they faced four mercenaries and five, no, four of the merchant's house guards. All was not lost, he had dispatched Sams back to fetch Canor while he pushed to convince the mercenaries to rip up their contact. He wasn’t too worried about taking on the house guards, they were well trained, but nothing his side couldn’t handle. He had just hoped for a clean operation so he could preserve his manpower and fend off the other bandit groups that would try to steal their prize. The mercenary company complicated things, losing more than five of his numbers would draw the other groups in and could make defending Saddlestone difficult.
Vidic stood to the back of this group along with the rest of the archers of Frontier Justice, five in total. The rest of his group were various melee fighters and were slowly encircling the mercenary company and house guards with their weapons drawn. Using his Knowledge, Vidic was able to pick up subtle hints to identify the classes of the mercenary company and house guards. Two handed warrior up front likely strength based, another warrior but seems to be dexterity based, swift and nimble. A hunter, she is going to be the first I take down, and lastly I think a cleric, who gets the honor of being next on my list, he thought arrogantly. On the merchant front, nothing besides a bunch of militia, recruits, and guards, he thought confidently.
“Look friends, blood does not need to be spilled tonight, I am a reasonable man. Take your company and leave this place, I have no quarrel with you,” he said addressing the mercenary company. Before the group could answer, a haughty voice broke through first, “I don’t have to remind you Herschel, that you have taken an Oath to protect me and mine for the duration of the contract. That Oath came into effect this morning.” Vidic identified the voice as the merchant Xavier’s. He was standing at the far end besides Tali. “I don’t suppose you can let my charge leave along with his family and belongings?” said the mercenary Vidic had identified as a two handed warrior without slipping his focus. “Now, now, Herschel, it's rude for guests to make demands from their hosts. I have already offered you a generous proposition, the lives of you and your band of merry fuckwits,” Vidic responded with a sneer on his face. The rest of his group laughed and chuckled, with some of the bandits shouting for compensation for the insult. “Silence!” Vidic shouted and his gang quieted down immediately. That rubbed Vidic’s ego nicely, he carried respect and authority over the group, more so than Canor. The initial plan was to let the merchant leave and raid the village, once the pig fattened up his coin purse on the way back, they would seize everything. After that, the merchant would be working for them. All was not lost, they would just have to get the merchant working for them now and forfeit the coins for this season.
“So what’ll b-,” Vidic’s eyes bulged as he saw a spear straight through his neck and then once again but this time through his chest.
Keiran dismissed the notification and prepared to strike his next target who was still catching on to what had just transpired. Sensing an opportunity, Herschel rallied his group and took advantage of the confusion within the bandit’s ranks and quickly mowed down six of the bandits near them. A powered overhand chop, followed by a cleaving finish took down three of the bandits by Herschel alone. The dex based warrior made quick work of the two bandits closest to her, while the hunter took down one with an arrow piercing straight through the bandits eye. Her second shot knocking down and crippling another, though not dead. The cleric for his part cast disarming and crippling another while at the same time casting a Hold Person on another. It was a bloodbath. Nihata for her part, threw Canor head next to where Keiran had just taken down Vidic and cast Ice Shard on the archer closest to shooting Keiran but the morale damage was done and pandemonium reigned.
Remaining bandits started to splitter and tried to run away. This made them easy pickings for the Hunter, who focused on the ones further out and started to take them out while the rest of his companions cleaned up the ones closest to them. Keiran plunged his spear into a shocked archer still recovering from the initial attack from Keiran on Vidic.
Keiran didn’t need to worry about this archer anymore, two down, four to go, he thought bitterly. He wanted to maximize his experience and level gain and the bandits were the perfect opportunity. Nihata had fired off another Ice Shard on her previous target, taking the archer out.
Three down, three to go, Keiran mentally counted. As the last three archers bolted for the forest, Keiran chased one down with the aid of haste and plunged his spear in her back.
The last two bandits were further off, Keiran doubted he could chase up with them but it looked like fate gave him the chance at at least one of them.
Catching up with this bandit, Keiran plunged his spear into the man’s face through the eye, eliciting a popping noise.
Keiran threw the spear at the last archer, by now, much further away. He missed, but it didn’t matter. The hunter claimed the last archer. The next notification drew a smile to his face.
