Maxima had kept her word. After I had freshened up, she had helped with my make-up and borrowed me a beautiful fiery red dress. She was treating me like we had always been the best of friends.
“I wore this dress to my first ball, I am sure it will look beautiful on you, once you've put it on.”
She had said. I was amazed by how much she changed her interactions now that I had passed her little test. I wondered if I ever was going to get used to the antics of the Lyst family.
“And, that's it, off you go. I am sure that there are still a few dances left.”
In a hurry, I made my way back to the ballroom. Since I had practiced the waltz and had so much fun dancing with Anna earlier, I wanted to make the most of it tonight. I was sure Anna would be waiting for me. After all, who knew when we would get another chance to dance in such a beautiful setting.
When I arrived in the ballroom, Tory was still playing, but I couldn't see Anna anywhere among the crowd that wasn't dancing.
My eyes scanned the room and I noticed Anna was dancing with Trixy. Seeing them dance, I felt a sharp sting in my gut. It was a completely different dance the one I danced with Anna or the one Trixy danced with me. I noticed Anna was being led, I saw her enjoying it. I witnessed little whispers by Trixy and noticed Anna blushing.
After that dance, I wanted to move in, just like Trixy had done with me but an arm stopped me.
“You can't cut in on the queen,” Kath said. A little defeated, and disappointed that Anna had not even tried to spot me between dances, I watched the spectacle unfold further. The stinging pain in my gut was becoming more and more painful. I felt it spread and felt myself start to breathe heavily.
“Calm down dear, it's only a dance. They have been friends forever. I wouldn't try to see too much into it.”
I noticed Trixy had clearly spotted me and had thrown me a defying look, before pulling Anna a little tighter and turning her waltz into something different. This was a sensual dance. I did not want to watch Anna enjoy that with another woman.
My jealousy was slowly changing into anger, and the anger was quickly turning into fury.
At the end of the waltz, Trixy bent over Anna, pulling Anna's leg over her head. Their faces were so close it was hard to tell if they kissed or not.
The crowd was gasping at the sight, even Kath had her hand in front of her mouth in astonishment. That was it, queen or not, I was stepping in.
I moved up to the both of them, seeing Anna look at Trixy the way she did, really hurt. I only wanted her to look at me like that.
“Excuse me,” I said. My tone was cold, but my heart was beating really fast. They both turned their heads toward me. Anna's blush made the doubts in my mind even worse. So they probably had kissed.
“Ara ara, Annya's battle maiden finally decides to show up.”
“How could you?!” I said to Anna.
“It's only a dance, my child,” Trixy said with a clear tease in her voice but I no longer cared.
I ignored Trixy and looked Anna in the eye. I noticed the shame in her eyes and took that as her confession. So they did kiss.
“Fine.”
I turned around and walked out of the room and out of the house. I felt so stupid for having looked forward to this dance. Maxima probably knew exactly what was happening while she was chatting happily with me. After having been part of so many Lyst games, I should have realized sooner that Anna was just playing with me.
There was no way for me to leave, so I decided to just linger in the gardens until the people started to leave. I was sure I would be able to hitch a ride with one of the other girls.
I removed those pesky dance shoes and walked on my bare feet over the grass. The cold feeling of the wind made me aware that tears were rolling from my cheeks as I wandered through the huge garden of this estate.
When I arrived at the backside of the main building, I noticed that their garden was designed to walk around a huge pond. The full moon reflecting in the water lighted the whole area in the cold moonlight, which fitted my melancholic mood perfectly. I noticed a little bench, walked toward it, and sat down.
Now the dam really burst. I was crying. I heard some people call out my name, but I didn't feel like seeing anyone right now. So I just laid myself on the bench and cried myself to sleep.
Not certain how much time had passed, I woke up by someone putting something warm over me. I opened my eyes and realized I had fallen asleep on the bench. The one sitting next to me was no other than Trixy.
When she noticed I was awake, she said “I'm sorry. Whatever you think you saw, I am sure you are mistaken. All Anna and I did was dance. I just wanted to taunt you a little. After seeing the two of you together I realized I love Annya too. And you, you just looked so formidable in everything that you do, and Annya is really in love with you. I realize that I felt jealous, and I took it too far.” She confessed.

What was happening? Why was she of all people here? She was the last person I wanted to see right now.
“I mistook you for another one of those people that just wanted to manipulate me in doing their bidding, and thought to turn the tables on you. But what I witnessed was something else. You really are an innocent teenage girl who is in love. Everything you do is so sincere. I want you to never change that part of you. When you approached Anna and me earlier, the only thing you cared about was Anna. You didn't even see me. After seeing how angry Annya got with me after you left, I realized I had done something wrong. I never knew Anna could get so fierce. I was wrong to think she was meek.”
Trixy thought a bit about her next words and then continued.
“ I believe you can tell about a person's character when you see their friends, and you have got some pretty loyal friends. I think I understand your mission to bring the beauty of 2D yuri to 3D a little better now after seeing them in action. But this time it will be my turn. Please let me make things right again.”
Trixy waved her hand and I noticed Anna shyly approaching.
“I will leave the rest to the two of you.”
While Anna approached, everything Trixy just said to me was rushing through my mind. I realized that in the heat of the moment I had just acted on impulse, not leaving Anna a chance.
Trixy left the two of us by ourselves. While I was still sitting on the bench, Anna stood in front of me. I am sure I looked a mess, after all, I had been crying so my mascara must have run out. I looked up at her and noticed she had been crying too.
She looked at me shyly and said “I'm sorry I hurt you.”
I felt the tears start rolling again and said “I-I'm sorry too. I just got way too jealous and assumed things.”
As I looked up, Anna's white dress lighted her up under the moonlight. It made me remember that we only got to dance once. The evening felt completely ruined, and it was all my fault. I had let my short temper guide me, and I ended up hurting myself and Anna.
“I'm sorry we didn't dance more.” I looked at Anna, I wanted to fix things but did not know how to. Anna looked at me and suddenly pulled me up and pulled me close to her.
“Then let's dance.” What was she saying? The ball would be over by now.
“But the music?”
“We don't need music.” She answered. She started dancing with me, but this was no Waltz, it was a slow sensual dance. I looked up into her eyes and saw the moon reflected in them.
I put my head against her bosom and let her lead me while I heard her heartbeat soothe me. I could feel that she was dancing with the intent to get her feelings clear to me.
“You won't leave me for the queen? Do you still love me?” I tried to put all of my doubts into words. “You don't hate me for getting jealous?”
She stopped the dance and looked at me intensely. “How could I ever hate you. Of course, I love you. Everything became meaningless the second I thought I lost you.”
Then Anna kissed me. I pulled her closer to me. I wanted her closer. I wanted anything that separated the two of us to just disappear.
When our kiss ended and I looked up at her, the lights in the gardens went on and applause emerged from all around us. I looked a bit confused around me.
All our friends came toward us and gave us a big group hug.
“Emergency Y-file successful! If you two ever get married, remember to invite us to the party!” Fien said.
“Fien started the case the second you two ran out. You should have seen her take charge and tell the queen off. She was so cool!” Maura said.
“Our mascot surely was.” Mia and Valerie said proudly.
Elodie and Gazette were proudly showing our cringy conversation in repeat on their camera to Elsa, Tina, Therese, and Eve, while Gazette was commenting in a microphone on everything that she saw. I was sure that those images would go viral again as soon as they were uploaded.
“Anna looked at me a little embarrassed and said “It's a bit crowded here. Shall we continue our conversation at my place in peace?”
I realized what she implied with that question, and with a faint blush on my cheeks, I looked her in the eyes and meekly nodded. Resulting in squeals from all around us.
