“I will support you.”

It was a very strange night.

It was a night when the monsters ran wild, and even the assassins came.

The end of the night was when an important and unwanted guest came.

“I can support you, Grand Duke Bertrand.”

It was a more bizarre offer than the night.

What was that commoner princess saying now?

Kael frowned.

His eyes naturally looked at the child sitting on the single sofa.

Yesterday, he saw something he hadn’t seen before. They were only two years apart, but she was skinnier than other kids her age.

The sunken cheeks and dry limbs that stood out even under the one and only lamp.

The dress she wore was luxurious, but it was too thin to withstand the harsh winter.

Above all else, it almost looked like she stole the clothes of an adult since it didn’t fit too well on her.

Things became clearer.

He felt like he missed the most important thing because he was focused only on her beauty.

Although her pink hair smelled like spring and looked like a star, what really caught his attention was her golden eyes.

The person who desperately needed support was not himself, but that commoner princess.

“…What did you say now?”

“Sponsorship.”

The child’s voice grew a little louder, thinking that Kael had really not heard.

She even leaned her body forward slightly.

“I am willing to support you.”

He was right from the beginning and now.

Kael bit his lips and ruffled his hair.

‘I could not have imagined such a reaction.’

While dealing with monsters outside the castle and coming to this study, Kael had imagined how the princess would react. He thought she would’ve looked down on him arrogantly, gotten angry, or shouted at him.

Or, she was afraid of him.

He even thought she was going to cry for help…

Kael took a deep breath and wiped his lips. He had been thirsty ever since he wiped out the monsters earlier.

The time for the curse to intensify was approaching fast.

His vision then began to blur.

“What would you like to support?”

He took off his cloak, which had been bothering him since he had worn it from the gate to the library.

The robe, which had been tainted with red blood, fell to the floor of the study with a heavy sound.

The smell of blood got a little stronger.

“I feel so ignorant not knowing how the Princess will support me.”

Kael slowly but surely approached the princess.

His field of vision narrowed a bit.

Ah.

He wanted to drink something.

Be it water, wine, or blood.

He wanted to drink, inhale, chew and swallow anything.

Gradually, the limit of what he could endure was approaching.

‘I can’t leave.’

The medicine was here. However, he couldn’t let her see his appearance by taking sleeping pills. Maybe he should scare her off first.

His foot stopped.

It was right in front of the young princess.

It was close enough that even a dull person could smell the thick blood from Kael’s body. Kael, who deliberately stood with his back to the only lamp in the room, smiled.

“Could you give some blood to me, Princess?”

At those words, the princess’ expression hardened.

Her eyes became rounded.

Yes, no matter how ignorant and abandoned she was, she would have heard the rumors.

The most vicious rumors were that he had gone mad from curse, killed his mother, and drank human blood every night.

“Ah…”

But does a princess from a distant capital know that? Kael took a breath.

“…How would you do it?”

Instead of answering, the princess stretched out her short arm. Kael focused on looking at the small hand with only two fingers outstretched.

“There are two things I would like to support you with. First,”

The princess touched her pink hair.

“Information.”

How to break his curse.

How to develop this underdeveloped territory.

And a way to call spring here that never comes.

It was all the thoughts in her head.

“And I can make you emperor.”

Behind those charming words, came the words of treason. Kael’s eyes narrowed.

The princess who was sent down from her imperial family in the name of trampling on him just made such a proposal to him.

“And the last one,”

The princess raised her body.

Perhaps she misstepped, for her body which was smaller than he thought, staggered. Kael unknowingly grabbed her hand to support her.

There was still wet blood in the palm of his hand.

“What is it?”

She smiled and went over and took his hand. A small hand rested on his blood-stained hand.

“…!!”

At the same time, Kael’s eyes widened. The thirst that had not left him at any time since the onset of the curse and the pain disappeared in an instant.

It was refreshing to fill that void.

It felt as if his neckline, which had held his breath, had been loosened.

‘It’s been a while since I could breathe like this.’

When was the last time he looked at people without suffering from his thirst?

It was the serenity he believed he would never find again. He was under a curse, and he has lived that way for many years.

It was a terrible curse that even his own mother had no choice but to give up on him.

But this, why now?

“The power to suppress the curse.”

He couldn’t cry in front of someone he saw for the first time, even in front of someone whom the emperor had sent to him.

But his emotions came out naturally.

The princess who was still holding his hand entered into his tear-filled vision.

“Do you like it?”

Her pink hair was tangled in a mess. Golden eyes that shined brightly even under the dim candlelight. And, of course, a confident smile that was sure to accept.

All of that filled Kael’s field of vision.

At the same time, tears fell.

“What do you want?”

One-sided help does not exist in the world.

Kael quickly wiped his face and took a step back. But his hand was still held by the princess. He didn’t want to let go.

“I hope you do not get sick and become an adult safely.”

Will he safely become an adult?

Kael stopped his hand which stroked his face, and opened his fingers slightly to look at the princess through the gap.

“I want you to revive this duchy as much as you could, and…”

Safely become an adult.

Suppress the curse and develop all the hidden skills.

With the wealth and power obtained by reviving the territory, trample on those from the distant past who betrayed and killed her.

“Kill the imperial family and stand on top of them.”

The little princess said that and smiled brightly.
