“APK received.”

I answer Schwa’s message and immediately start to work.

I uncompress the package, and 3 folders appear: ‘Main’, ‘Lib’, ‘Obj’ and one last application ‘Makefile’ that I didn’t know of.

I open ‘Main’ to find a single file titled ‘Main’.

The entire code is made of weird indentations and it’s hard to figure out the difference between variables and functions. That’s not JavaScript or Python... What the hell is this, C#?

I scroll down a bit, then scroll up and look for headers.

Where are the library calls?

I go back to the folders and look at the file extension.

“Main.c”

What the fuck is this, did these guys really make a phone app on C, not even C++?? It’s been ages since people stopped using this language!

Don’t tell me…

I open the folder titled ‘Lib’.

No less than 11,000 documents of code appear, and as I scroll down, I realize they’re all basic library functions.

These madmen rewrote the entire fucking library with different names.

And finally, in the ‘Obj’ folder lies a hundred of heavy files that are called in the Main and it looks like the shortest is around 200,000 lines long.

I take a deep breath and start looking on the Internet for abridged C lessons.

I guess this will take longer than expected…

“Excuse me, what are you doing?”

I approach the counter, tablet in hand.

I walked past the woman with silver hair who disappeared when she saw me.

Looking at the terrified face of the man on the right and the fainted woman on the left, the Cavalcanti prince and his two bodyguards have definitely started something bad.

He looks behind his back and his eyes look much sharper than they did before.

He turns around and snaps his fingers. “Parliamo altrove.”

“Did they try anything weird?” I ask the two crew members behind the counter.

“Nothing.”

“Good.”

“Prince Cavalcanti, please keep the commotions in the auction deck to a minimum. You don’t want to get banned, or worse.”

He laughs, pointing at the roof. “Does that mean we can make commotions up there?”

“As long as we don’t see it, and as long as it isn’t a threat to innocent passengers.”

He shouts. “You will allow personal vendetta on this ship as long as you don’t see it? I love Japan!”

“It depends, are they innocent passengers?” I make a chin movement toward the old man and woman.

He laughs again.

“No way! You don’t know who they are? I thought you were the biggest shot of yakuza intelligence! TADPOLE, you’re famous all around the world, you know?!”

“It’s not too convenient to be famous in this line of work...”

“Anyway, these guys right here, they’re Caasi and Airim Camorra!”

I take a closer look at the couple in question and make an ‘oh.’

“That doesn’t really sound Italian.”

“It’s because they’re not Italian… Hey, can you tell us where you’re from?”

The man who didn’t dare speak before finally opens his mouth.

“A-america.”

“See, they’re Americans.” Says the prince with a smug.

“My condolences.”

He burst into laughter again but I couldn’t tell him that their names didn’t sound American either…

“Anyway, they’re Camorra, so it’s my business, you get it?”

I notice a couple of scared passengers stacking a few meters behind my back, afraid of the situation and they won’t come closer to claim their prizes from the auction.

“Is that a dead body?” I hear whispering.

“Yes, I get it, but please keep it down in this deck, I warned you already. Wake up the woman and don’t drag her on the floor.”

He clicks his tongue: “Stai zitto.”, then makes a hand movement to ask his bodyguard to drag her like a dead body while the other kicks the man on the bottom to make him walk, like a criminal.

This is not good for the ship’s reputation, I have to make him understand but we also don’t want the relations with the Cavalcanti to get bad.

And the whispering behind my back continues. “What is the security doing?”

“Why are there ruffians on the ship?”

“I knew these people were only trouble.”

I can feel my anxiety rise again and sigh.

I run my free hand through my hair and proceed to bite a nail.

After spitting it out of my mouth, I finally exclaim: “Please, listen to what I said and wake her up or carry her normally before I call the security. Behave decently or you will face the consequences.”

The Cavalcanti prince stares at me, furious. He asks his bodyguards to let go and approaches me with violent intentions.

“The time it takes for your dear sister to come I will beat the shit out of you, piccolo merda. I hope you have a hospital deck somewhere because you’re all alone here. Do you have any clue how glad everyone at home will be when I tell them the TADPOLE is dead? You have made too many enemies for your size, ragazzo!”

I sneeze.

Damn, I’m really not shaped for stressful situations.

The Cavalcanti prince grabs my cardigan and pulls it upward, stretching it so much I fear that it tears apart.

“MA STAI SCHERZANDO, RAGAZZO?!”

“Please, please, wait an instant, before doing something you will regret, I recommend you look behind you.”

“Fuck off!” He spits on my face, and a blade touches his throat.

“Dear passenger, may I ask you to let go of sir TADPOLE this instant.”

The cold of the steel must have startled him because he instantly let go of me, with a “Che cazzo?!”

“I told you to look, it wasn’t a trap.” I say, cleaning the saliva with my handkerchief.

The two crew members that were behind the counter are a chief mate and second mate. Personally trained by my sister, they assure the security on the ship while the security officers are away.

While the prince Cavalcanti was threatening me, they pulled out their kodachi and knocked out the bodyguards in an instant.

“Fuck you guys are strong. I forfeit.” He says, raising his hands.

“It’s all good, please be mindful as to follow our recommendations next time.” I answer, putting my clothes back in place with my free hand.

I quickly tap on my tablet and conclude.

“Two nurses will come down here to take care of the Camorra woman alongside your two bodyguards. The Camorra man is also under our protection while we ask him some questions. Please leave the deck for now.”

“I’m not leaving without them.”

I had to wonder if he meant his bodyguards or his victims.

“Don’t worry Prince Cavalcanti, you still have two nights and days to take care of them. They won’t miraculously fly away.”

“Fine, fine.” He finally agrees to leave.

He walks past me but I turn around and grab his attention again.

“One final thing.”

“What?” He speaks without stopping walking.

“That was our final warning.”

“Is that so? Next time it’s the sister, then. I can’t wait to have a closer look at her, she was a beauty! Ciao ragazzo!”

The afraid passengers walk away to let the Cavalcanti prince leave and finally run to the counter en masse to claim their prices.

The Camorra woman and the two bodyguards have been moved to a corner of the deck.

The Camorra man holds her hand, probably worried and scared, and since I really have a bunch of questions for them, I wait until the nurses appear.

“Where have you been?”

“Oh, just here and there…”

Boobies put her hand on my back which startled me a bit but now feels strangely comfortable.

“Have you seen anything funny?”

“Yeah, I think so…”

“Me too, look at this one.”

The rock-hm mineral I found is pretty weird to look at.

“What is it, it looks like a horn, and there is a solid white thing horizontally?”

“I think the white part is the mineral and the horn thing is actually the matrix… It has a funny name, whewellite!”

“Funny name indeed… Wait, how do you know?”

“The app comes with an encyclopedia, you have to click on this, see?”

“When did you take my phone?!”

“Just before you left, it was about to fall from your pocket so I saved it.”

“It’s not saving, it’s theft.”

“Not if I give it back after, duh.”

“Why don’t you use your own phone?”

I quint my eyes. “Because I can’t?”

“Why not?”

“Wait actually, Boobies, have you never seen my phone?”

“No, I don’t think so.”

I burst into laughter. “Ah, so this is why! Yes, it makes sense, but I can’t believe for all this time you didn’t steal my phone once!”

“Well, I’m not a thief like you!”

“Liar, you stole my knife once!”

“I asked it to you and you gave it to me.”

“A grave mistake I made while being seduced by your enormous chest…”

“Shut up!” She shouts, blushing.

Wait if she reacts like that, it’s going to make me blush too!

“D-don’t shout like that, I’m the one who shouts! Are you stealing my gimmicks!”

She grabs my waist. “Shut up, now show me your phone!”

“N-no way, that’s embarrassing.”

“It’s just a phone!”

“Yeah, but the way you ask it…”

“Ahhhh, you can’t hide it after all this crap!! Show me your phone or I-”

“Or you what?”

We look into each other’s eyes for a few seconds until she plunges her hand into my pocket.

“OR I TAKE IT MYSELF!!”

“THIEF! THIEF!”

“SHUT UPPPP!”

She pulls it out after some fake struggling on my end… I kinda wanted to show her after all.

“Oh my god, Boobies, I can’t believe you treat my belongings like this…”

But looking at Boobies’ face, this play was worth it.

“You… you… All this time you were using this?! I can’t believe it!!”

“Hahaha, don’t be mean! It’s handy and nice, I can play Tetris on it, but without the sound, only the sound FX, when I was in high school I used to sing the music myself to make it more cheerful…”

Boobies’ bewildered eyes make me burst into laughter. I didn’t know she could make a face like this just by looking at a flip phone.
