“There she goes.”
I gaze at the rear view of the retreating Margravine’s entourage, alongside Aria and Milia.
It was a quick visit.
Not long after arriving, she bought the magic stones and the earth-attribute extract made by Kili at a reasonable price, before leaving.
To think she would come all the way to this village just to make some purchases.
Just like Aria, I was also confused as to why she really came here.
“This is just a guess, but maybe after she heard we were short on male-hands, she came to replenish them? A part of the men accompanying her seemed like applicants for the village.”
“Eh? But they left with her, no?”
“Most likely because Lain is here.”
“Me?”
The responsibility was shouldered off to me out of the blue.
Did I do something wrong?
Milia laughs gently, seeing my confused state
“You haven’t done anything wrong. Hearing that you’re the one who made the walls as well as the house, the Margravine must have acknowledged your capability as a magician. That’s why, rather than risk leaving residents who might end up bickering with such a magician, she decided to take them all home, and leave the village to us. Besides, they seemed shocked after seeing the amount of magic stones we sold them, so I doubt they would’ve been much help either.”
“…Yeah. In any case, we only have one bedroom right now, so it’d be a pain to have so many people move in at once.
“…..”
There’s only a single bedroom because of your conspiracy; is what I wanted to say, but didn’t.
She herself seems to believe that I haven’t realized yet, and talking about it was simply too bothersome for me.
Milia was thinking the same thing as me, so when our eyes met, she simply nodded.
I think everyone excluding Aria realized that this was her plan to make everyone sleep in the same room.
Well, I’ll keep that aside for now.
Honestly, rather than having all women, I’d have preferred if some male residents also moved in, but Aria didn’t seem willing to allow that.
Besides, there were a few problems with including some random guy as I’m teaching Aria and the others.
I was requested by the Margravine to teach them magic, but I have no idea just how much would be effective.
If it’s only the current members, they can go as far as making walls and houses like I did.
With that, there would be no worthwhile enemies, at least around the shallow areas of the forest.
I guess I’ll ride the wave here.
“…Well, if we were to ask them to give us a few men there’s no doubt they’d give them to us, but I kinda like our current environment so I was wondering if we could do with just these members.”
“! You’re right…I guess there’s no helping it if Lain says so!”
I think I gave the right answer.
Aria starts heading back to the house with her tensions high.
Milia looked at me, smiling.
We both follow after Aria to the house.

“Lain nii-chan! Come on, teach us magic!”
“Preparations, done.”
As soon as I returned, Reno and Sui were waiting for me begin magic lessons.
Kili wasn’t as enthusiastic as the other two, but she also seemed quite motivated.

To be fair, the Margravine’s visit did interrupt me, right before I taught them techniques for their long-sought battle against monsters.
I understand how they feel.
“Relax. First I’m going to hand out some equipment before we get into training.”
“””””Equipment?”””””
“Don’t tell me you intend to fight monsters unarmed, do you? I’ve prepared some easy-to-use equipment such as swords and wands, so wait a minute.”
Saying that, I return to my room, take out the equipment from [Storage], and return to the dining room.
I’d brought an obvious amount which would make one wonder where I put them in the first place, but as of late, they’d stopped asking me about my magic.
I did it for their sake, but to be honest it’s too bothersome explaining it every time so I don’t really mind.
“First up is Reno. Reno will get a dagger.”
I hand over a dagger in its scabbard to Reno, who was jumping up and down in joy.
“I’ll give you a brief lesson on how to use daggers later, but Reno’s main job will be to distract monsters and steal their attention, so there’s no need for you to forcefully try and defeat it, got it?”
“Eeh-, but I want to fight monsters!”
“Don’t say that. Though it may be difficult now, you’ll be able to take one down eventually.”
“Mu-, fine, Lain nii-chan.”
Though dissatisfied, Reno understood what I was saying.
Unlike her actions, Reno was quite sharp.
Her wild instincts were also quite strong, and she could figure out what to do without me telling her to do it, which was really helpful.
“Then, next will be Aria. Aria gets armor, a small shield, and a one-handed sword.”
“Got it! I’ll be fighting monsters with that sword right?”
“Well, yeah, but your main job will be defending using the shield.”
“But why?”
Her eyes began sparkling once she saw the sword, but her main tool will be the shield, not the sword.
Her job will be mainly to protect allies, while using her sword minimally, where the situation called for it.
However, Aria seemed dissatisfied with just that.
“I’d like to make Aria the protector of the group. In a space like the forest, it’s impossible to aim from afar and attack, so you’re guaranteed to face direct attacks from monsters. That’s why it’ll be important to have someone who can protect everyone. I want that person to be Aria.”
“Now I get it! Keeping the villagers safe is the village head’s duty, am I right?”
“Also, the sword isn’t very sturdy to allow magic to pass through it, so keep in mind to repair it using magic each day, alright?”
“That much is no problem!”
(Thank god, she was convinced)
Seeing Aria equip the armor and shield with enthusiasm, I pat my chest in relief.
Aria is a bit.
…no, quite hard-headed.
Which is why I thought it would take a lot more to persuade her.
Seeing Reno accept her equipment first must have also been a large factor.
At first I was only going to give her a shield, but she wouldn’t have been satisfied with just that, so I added a one-handed sword along with the title of “Protecting Everyone”.
If this didn’t work, I would’ve had no choice but to rely on Milia and Kili to try and convince her.
Taking a peek at the two, I could see them patting their chests as well.
We were all thinking the same thing, most likely.
While thinking so, I prepare the next equipment to hand over.
