LET’S MAKE A MAGIC TOOL! ①

Sorry for the late upload. I’m re-watching naruto and just reached Jiraiya vs. Pain. My tears are endless.

==========

By the end, we had gone hunting a total of three times.
All three hunts went smoothly without any big risks.

By the third time, we could even return home with much more leisure.

Finishing dinner, everyone was now on their free-time.
Aria, Reno, and Sui would usually use up their magic during the day, and go to bed early, while Kili and Milia would stay up late reading.

But today, even Milia used up a large amount of magic, so she went to bed earlier than usual.

With that, Kili and I ended up reading together.
It seems that my request for deciphering the ancient civilization language was not going well, but since it was also a translated book, she was almost done reading it.

“Lain, I wanted to discuss something with you.”
“Sure, what’s up?”

It was usually the three of us reading books in silence.
Perhaps seeing that it’s only two today, Kili starts a conversation.
Turning up from my book, I see Kili staring at me intently.

“I, want to try making a magic tool…”

Magic tool, huh.
I knew I’d hear these words someday.

Kili seemed like the type who would excel at alchemy, so I wanted to teach her some day.

“I hate delicate work so I’m not very good at it, but if it’s something simple, I could teach you.”
“Yeah. Lain is pretty bad at cooking. I don’t think you’d be able to teach me anything out of this book.”
“Uu.. Right where it hurts.”

I was never particularly good at cooking nor workmanship.
In the beginning I tried helping them out in the kitchen, but was told that I only increased their work.

Simply put, magic tools are made using alchemy while mixing the raw materials together.
It’s very similar to cooking.
That’s also why I’m only as confident in my magic tool-making skills, as I am in my cooking.

“Me being clumsy isn’t the important thing here. So, What can I help you with if not teaching directly?
“Ingredients basically. I unfamiliar with so many things I read in this book, so I wondered if you had a picture book or something.”
“Aah.”

The book I gave to Kili and Milia, was written in the middle ages of ancient magic civilization.
In those times money could buy you everything, so they’ve written nothing but the names of the ingredients.

However, there were no such places today where you could buy those ingredients.
Even if there were, I bet they’d be too expensive for us anyways.

I suppose we’re left with no choice but to hunt for them in the Demon Forest.

“I do have a picture book, but it’s written in ancient language. What are you planning on making anyways?”
“I want to try creating this ‘water stone’. From the looks of it, all the raw materials are plant-based so maybe even someone like me could manage it…”

“Water stone huh…”
“With this, we won’t have to go and collect water from a well every time, am I right?”

Water stone is a rudimentary magic tool that creates water when you pour magical power into it.
It has the same effect as [Water Creation], and since it’s a magic tool, anyone can use it.

“Sure, we could gather all the required things from nearby, but what will you do about the alchemy pot?”
“Eh? Is a normal pot not good enough?”
“Of course not. There’s no way that magic stones and raw materials could melt and mix in one normally.”

An alchemy pot is a pot used specifically for compounding, and has the ability to magically convert raw materials into a mysterious liquid called magia substantia, or something.
While mixing things in this pot, all materials whether they be minerals, metals, or plants, turn into liquid for some reason.
Mix them up, add a touch of magic here and there, and your magic tool is ready.

Alchemy pots existed even before the ancient magician civilization, so their composition is unknown.
It may have been noted down even before the early ages of the ancient civilization, but I only had books from the middle ages.

“Well, I do have a small alchemy pot, so I don’t mind giving it to you. Eventually, we could go to the town and buy an excavated one from the market, which we’ll fix using [Restore]. I’m pretty sure Kili would have mastered it by that time as well.”

“Thank you Lain.”

Alchemy pots were often excavated from archaeological sites.

Though they’re mostly found in a broken and unusable state.
But since they were produced during the times of ancient magic civilization, naturally their original shape would be recorded in them too.

In that case, it’s possible to use [Restore] and fix them.
[Restore] is a lot more harder than [Equipment Repair] is.
The latter was made by limiting the effects of the former, so I guess it’s a given.

Still, it won’t be before spring that we’re able to head to town, so there’s plenty of time for learning it.

“For the time being, before we head out tomorrow, I’ll describe things to you using an illustrated book. I’ll also bring my alchemy pot.”
“Thanks a lot Lain.”

I look towards Kili.
She was making a face which made her appear deep in thought.
