Note:

1. Elvetica (known as République-sœur Elvetica in the Aetherium Empire, Elvetische Republik in the Königreich Kievsta, Elvetik Cumhuriyeti in the Ottoski Federation) is a nominally independent protectorate of the Aetherium Empire.
2. The Königreich Kievsta has no fixed capital city; the city where the Saintess of the Kievsta Orthodox Church resides in is the de facto capital. 
3. The Südentenland is a neutral confederation made up of many small independent states not listed in this map.

A brief modern-day history of the Aetherium Empire:

• After a long and bitter war between the Northern and Southern Continents (Year 500-550 approx.), the two major powers on each continent—Aetherium Empire in the North, Königreich Kievsta in the South—agreed to a ceasefire and later on a peace treaty (Treaty of Elvetica) in the Year 563. 
• Alsace-Lotharingia, formerly a Reichsland of the Königreich, was given to the Empire as a result of the Treaty.
  • Additional note: Its people were forcibly made citizens of the Empire so that they can be heavily taxed by the central government, squeezing the region dry and ultimately causing a man-made famine in the Year 584-585 following an unprecedented drought. 
• The alliance between the Empire and the Ottoski Federation (then known as the Caliphate) ended following the Treaty, and their relationship has soured since then.
  • Additional note: As the Caliphate's economy was in shambles following the war, the Empire easily seized the southern regions rich in coal deposits from the Caliphate to drive its rapid industralisation with the invention of the steam engine. After the Caliphate collapsed and the Federation was formed, it has made multiple attempts to reclaim its original territories from the Empire.
• The République-sœur ('sister republic') Elvetica was given autonomy as a result of the Treaty. It is generally considered to be a neutral state relative to its neighbours, and most diplomatic meeting are held in its capital city, Hacerne. The Exposition Universelle (World's Fair) is also held in Elvetica to celebrate the achievements of nations all over the world.
