Players. Special individuals who were chosen to wield the power of the System which called them Players. Through it, they could learn and use supernatural powers called skills. They fight otherworldly threats and get EXP whenever doing so. Strengthening their attributes and skills in the process. But these threats are more of an issue than people suddenly gaining power.

Gates that are connected to various areas of the universe rampantly appeared in the various parts of Earth. Monsters, giants, magical beasts and various things came out of it. Nobody knows the reason why they appeared though. Although humanity's firepower worked somehow. The power of these Players is what kept the Earth from falling. Through these gates, humanity also met other intelligent civilizations. Some are hostile that are born to conquer while others are friendly. Meeting one such friendly and advanced civilization. Humanity's technology soared and armies no longer lose out against individual strength.

Although the Earth struggled at first. They finally got a firm foothold after all through the suffering they experienced in the past one hundred years since the Gates appeared, they even managed to colonize the other planets in the solar system in this period due to the advanced technology given to them by their allied civilization.

"I want to become one like them too…" Adrian lied flat on his bed while murmuring

On top of him was a floating screen displaying news. This was one of the technologies of the said allied civilization. Looking through it he quickly found very familiar names. Brian and Damian Zeilstra. Those were his brothers he couldn't hope to compete with. At the news, it was highlighted that their group along with the military successfully defended a city in India against a Gate ranked as S-rank.

These two brothers of his are also S-ranked individuals. They are the pride of Singapore. His country. The three of them are the Singapore branch's Player Association President's children. Their father is in this position even before they were born and has immaculate connections and influence.

Although he was no pushover and nobody hates him since even though he's not a Player, he was good in business and his parents and siblings are on good terms with him. It could even be said that he's quite rich. But being rich is one thing. He's infinitely jealous of his brothers being always in the spotlight while he's someone who only stays in office. Feeling sour in his heart. He got up from the bed, goes in front of floor to ceiling glass window and looked at the starry night. "I wish I was awakened too..." He sighed to himself.

Even though one wasn't born a player. Not all hope was lost. They still have a chance of awakening since the System keeps a tenth of humanity as Players. This means that even though one wasn't born as one. The system will choose randomly from people all over the world just to make sure that a tenth of its population are Players. So if there are ten billion people in the world. Then one billion of it has to be Players, and if it is less than that number. The system will look for individuals to fill it up randomly either by having the newborns take a spot or choosing an existing person.

He was optimistic that someday he could be chosen when his brothers were still in B-rank a few years ago. But then years have already passed. He was now pessimistic.

He suddenly felt a soft thing snuggling between his legs. He looked down and smiled. Beneath him was a brown dog. "Hey, Choco. Come on." He walked out of the room and the dog followed. It was quite big and looked kind of scary when others see it but for him, it was his best friend. Being with him for almost seven years now. He knelt and caressed the dog who expressed his satisfaction and wiggles its tail around.

"You hungry? Wait. I'll prepare your food." He left the dog and goes to the kitchen to prepare its food. A few minutes later and he was done. He took the bowl with its food on it and placed it in front of the dog. "Here. Your favorite."

The dog began eating and he continued to ponder while sitting on a chair beside the glass window. He heard a ringtone and knew it was his. His secretary was calling. "Sir. I'm sorry that the report and the files came late but here was it." The female voice said and files has been sent to his device.

"Whatever. Don't mind it. Is there anything else?"

"Your scheduled meeting with the shareholders tomorrow at 9 AM. Other than that. Other things are not much of importance."

"Okay. I'll be there. If that's it I'll end the call. Good work." Throughout the call. His tone was calm even though the reports and needed files were brought up to him late. He simply doesn't care. There was no need to waste his anger on such a thing nor was it a positive thing if he actually has the energy to be mad at such a thing. Right now, he was simply feeling depressed. He just wanted to be left alone.

This time he heard another "Ding" sound and looked at the floating screen indifferently. There was nothing extraordinary on the screen. "Where did that ring came from?"

He heard another of it and followed by typing sounds.

"Eh? Where is it?" He carefully looked at his screen. He's alone here. How come there would be something like that. Nobody uses a keyboard at this age anymore other than for ASMR. "Who the hell–" he slowly looked at his right and his eyes opened wide. He was speechless. "Finally…?" that was the only word he could utter.
