Ch10 - Are you really from this……

Abnormal creature and abomination of evil.

For Elder Cheng Chao to say these words, it’s actually not too surprising.

When LingXiao Gate was first established, it was for the purpose of subduing a world occupied by monsters and demons. In these thousands of years, they have exterminated countless evil creatures. However, the number of fellow sect members sacrificed to the extermination process, naturally, wasn’t a small number.

The disciples of LingXiao Gate have a natural enmity towards demons(妖).

“Those who are not my kin, must have different hearts.” This kind of mentality still remains, unable to be eradicated completely, even in this era.

In fact, when Feng Ci first learned that the Master of LangFeng City was actually a snake demon(妖), even he had felt prejudice in his heart.

However, later on he discovered that this was his family’s little black snake. That little bit of prejudice disappeared.

It was his own family’s child after all. How could there be any reason for disdain?

Naturally, there’s even less reason to watch outsiders show disdain.

“Elder Cheng Chao’s words here are quite misplaced.” Feng Ci threw the melon seeds in his hand into the water, which created a struggle amongst the koi in the pond: “The enemy is in the dark and we’re in the light. The Immortal Alliance has been investigating for so many months and still did not find any clues. If the 6 sects weren’t gathered to witness this issue with WuChang Sect and something went wrong, wouldn’t the blame fall entirely on our City Master’s head?”

Elder Cheng Chao had already noticed this unruly LangFeng City disciple just now. However, he didn’t even attach any importance to Pei QianYue, let alone a normal, ordinary disciple.

Unexpectedly, this youth dared to speak up and refute him. For a moment, he actually didn’t know how to answer.

However, Feng Ci wasn’t done speaking: “And that secret realm under the roots of the BanYan tree. If there were someone within the 6 Sects who could create an even more powerful secret realm than our City Master, would he have gone out of the way to undertake the task himself? Would you have done it?”

Elder Cheng Chao: “I…..”

“You can’t, I know.”

Feng Ci continued to say: “As for the cultivation method you mentioned that relies on absorbing other people’s spirit energy  to increase one’s powers, this is indeed a cultivation method used by a majority of monsters and demons. However, this kind of cultivation method inevitably affects the Heart of Dao, and results in an uncontrollable urge to murder and kill. Elder Cheng Chao is from LingXiao Gate, yet you don’t even understand this concept?”

“If City Master truly cultivated like this, can he still sit here like  this right now?” Feng Ci sneered: “Falsely accusing the Leader of the Immortal Alliance on unwarranted charges, do you have any evidence at all?”

Elder Cheng Chao became dumbfounded by this series of questions: “You…… I…….”

“You don’t, I know.”

Feng Ci got up, walked next to the stone table, and leaned against it slightly: “Demon(妖) is demon. Evil(魔) is evil. I trust that Elder Cheng Chao wouldn’t be so incapable of distinguishing between good and evil. As for calling our City Master an abnormal creature, you’re not wrong here—”

“Yet your cultivation can’t even match an abnormal creature.” Feng Ci gave him a faint smile: “What does that make you then?”

“Impertinent brat!” Elder Cheng Chao smacked the table and stood up, so angry that he even forgot to use magic. Snatching up the horsetail whisk, he immediately went over to hit Feng Ci.

This horsetail whisk was originally made from thin filaments that could cut through metal like mud. Even without instilling spirit energy into it, just a mere touch can rip off an entire layer of skin.

Elder Cheng Chao swung his horsetail whisk. Thousands of silver threads instantly reached over like a cold light.

However, Feng Ci only turned his body slightly to the side and the thin threads swept past the side of his face narrowly.

Completely unscathed.

Out of his mind in anger, Elder Cheng Chao momentarily did not notice the depth of cultivation Feng Ci displayed to take this evading step. However, Wen HuaiYu was able to see it clearly on the side.

Eyes darkening, he first glanced at Pei QianYue .

The latter still remained sitting upright in the same spot. He even steadily poured himself another cup of tea.

— Be it Elder Cheng Chao’s irresponsible words or Feng Ci’s consecutive rebuttals, nothing made his expression change the slightest.

To the side, the old and young were still fighting.

…… Or it should be said that Feng Ci was still being chased by Elder Cheng Chao trying to hit him.

As an elder of LingXiao Gate, Cheng Chao had a high cultivation level. Sage-like and lofty, he was extremely revered within the entire cultivation world.

Elder Cheng Chao almost choked on air.

“Cheng—” The sound of zither resounded within the pavilion.

Unknowingly, Wen HuaiYu had untied the zither on his back. The zither automatically floated in front of him. Fingertips moving lightly, he strummed a song.

This song contained spiritual energy. When heard, it turned people’s mood serene and tranquil.

Even Elder Cheng Chao calmed down.

Wen HuaiYu played the zither and advised: “Elder Cheng Chao, why bother with a child?”

“A child?” Cheng Chao huffed coldly: “Does being a child permit him to babble nonsense?”

Feng Ci hid behind Pei QianYue: “Why not? A certain person, who’s quite old, is still babbling nonsense.”

“You—”

“This……” Wen HuaiYu paused, not knowing how to address him, and then said with a sigh: “Can you just say a few words less!”

Feng Ci gave a hehe laugh and still wanted to say something else. However, Pei QianYue put down his teacup: “Lu JingMing, that’s enough.”

This was actually the first time Pei QianYue called his name. Feng Ci acknowledged with an ‘oh’.

Elder Cheng Chao frowned: “You’re Lu JingMing? The other orphan of TianXuan Sect?”

Feng Ci: “That’s right. My Shixiong was just brought back to LingXiao Gate by Elder Ji Yun. Elder Cheng Chao, have you seen him?”

Meng ChangQing had just followed Elder Ji Yun back to the sect a few days ago. Elder Cheng Chao probably hasn’t seen him yet.

However, after this experience, he might have developed some mental trauma regarding the TianXuan Sect’s orphans.

Wen HuaiYu put away the zither and said courteously: “So it’s Lu-Shizhi.”

Right now, the name Lu JingMing was very famous inside the 6 Sects.

But it’s not because of his identity as TianXuan Sect’s orphan. Rather it’s because he had refused WanFa Pavilion’s invitation during the Immortal Alliance’s entrance selection and insisted on going to LangFeng City to become an outer sect disciple. This decision had really hurt the Master of WanFa Pavilion, YuChi Chu, very deeply.

Everyone knew that amongst the 6 sects, WanFa Pavilion was the one most lacking in disciples. In this time period, everyone could cultivate. Even with a poor innate constitution, as long as you can afford the money, you can build a basic cultivation foundation relying on various magic elixirs and pills.

But not everyone has a gift for the Art of Armor Enchantment and Mechanics.

Everyday YuChi Chu worried over the lack of a successor.  Finally, he had his eyes set on a disciple, yet this disciple was snatched away first by LangFeng City. How could he endure this?

These days, YuChi Chu vented to everyone he met. Even when he didn’t meet anyone in person, he complained everywhere through the communication mirror.

He was so annoying that the entire 6 Sects knew that name now.

Feng Ci was the only one who knew nothing about this.

Pei QianYue got up and said coolly: “Our discussion ends here today.”

“…..There’s a spy within the 6 sects. Everyone is duty bound. Your orders are to investigate and find the truth within one month, out of respect for the deceased fellow Daoist.”

———

Feng Ci followed Pei QianYue and left the QingJing Sect.

It was in the afternoon. Mount Yao was completely quiet and tranquil under the late autumn sunlight. The air was filled with the sound of an unknown zither, distant and lingering. Outside the QingJing Sect was a maple forest. The bright red maple leaves fell leisurely, covering the ground with a thick layer.

The two people walked inside the maple forest, neither speaking at the moment.

Pei QianYue was used to being quiet, but Feng Ci couldn’t stand the silence and stole glances at Pei QianYue’s face.

Very strange. In the past, this person always looked so mean and harsh. Anyone who dared to provoke him would undoubtedly be punished severely. Yet today, he was practically insulted directly, right in front of his face, yet there was no response at all.

…… He really couldn’t tell what this person was thinking.

Feng Ci fretted.

The young, little black snake was cuter after all. Undoubtedly he was only a snake at that time, yet all of his emotions were written clearly on his face. Once he was playing on the streets with Feng Ci and someone had told him “This snake is so skinny and small, how ugly.” Even this was enough to make him bury his head inside Feng Ci’s sleeve and feel terrible for a long, long time.

Now that he’s cultivated into human form, on the contrary, it was impossible to read any emotions at all.

Feng Ci definitely couldn’t be like Pei QianYue and suppress all of his words inside his heart. He asked directly: “That Elder Cheng Chao insulted you so badly, how come you’re not even angry?”

Pei QianYue: “Who said I’m not angry?”

Feng Ci: “……”

Because you don’t look like you’re angry at all.

Last time he was angry,  Pei QianYue almost broke his arm.

How come you only know how to be a tyrant at home, Xiao Hei?

“What about you?” Pei QianYue asked him suddenly: “Why are you angry?”

“……” Feng Ci shifted his gaze: “Who said I was angry? I was only…… only randomly playing with him, that’s all.”

“Randomly playing with him.” Pei QianYue seemed to have heard something extremely amusing and said mockingly: “LingXiao Gate has 3 revered masters. Other than the Sect Leader Xuan YangZi, and Ji Yun, whom you saw the other day, then there’s Cheng Chao, who ranked 3rd amongst his fellow sect brothers.”

“As one of the 3 revered masters of LingXiao Gate, his position within the cultivation world is also rather lofty. You’re the first  one who dares to ‘play’ with him.”

“……. you asked him ‘what kind of thing is he’, what are you then?”

Feng Ci: “…….”

He just knew it. After all this back and forth, in the end, Pei QianYue was still trying to figure out his identity.

Feng Ci started to have selective hearing again and pretend to be dumb. Frowning, he asked: “As one of the 3 revered masters, how can he be so irresponsible with his words. It’s really a disgrace to LingXiao Gate and Elder Ji Yun.”

That Elder Ji Yun was noble and benevolent, carrying himself like an upright gentleman. How could his same sect Shidi have such an irascible temper?

Unexpectedly, Pei QianYue answered completely seriously: “Because of my master.”

Feng Ci: “Ah?”

“I hear that Elder Cheng Chao worships Grandmaster QianQiu to the extreme. He even placed a statue of Grandmaster QianQiu inside his room just to gaze upon it in reverence, day in and night out. He doesn’t like me, that’s very normal.”

Feng Ci: “……”

Did that Elder Cheng Chao know he was just chasing around his beloved Grandmaster QianQiu in the flesh, trying to hit him?

And also Xiao Hei, what’s with your smug tone here?

Hearing this tone, Feng Ci could completely imagine the kind of suffering this Elder Cheng Chao experienced constantly.

The fact that he didn’t start a fight directly with Pei QianYue was good enough.

This maple forest didn’t cover too much distance. After saying these, the two people already traveled through the forest and arrived at the foot of Mount Yao.

From here on out, they can leave on the flying sword.

Then after returning to LangFeng City, Feng Ci will go back to being an outer sect disciple; Pei QianYue will go back to being the Master of LangFeng City. Who knows how long Feng Ci will have to wait until the next time they can chat idly and peacefully like this.

For some reason, Feng Ci felt a bit disappointed and melancholic.

He has probably been genuinely lonely for too many years. In these years, he has traveled to many places, but always found it hard to assimilate. Going on an adventure inside a secret realm, visiting a cultivation sect as a guest, having a chat and starting a quarrel, pissing each other off mutually… It’s really been a long time since he experienced something like everything that had happened today.

Pei QianYue was also in no hurry to form his spirit sword.

Facing the wind, he stood quietly in front of this red maple forest. The autumn wind blew at the ribbon tied behind his head, making it flutter in the air.

Who knew what he was thinking about.

Feng Ci has never managed to figure out his thoughts.

He clearly still distrusted Feng Ci, but still brought Feng Ci to QingJing Sect and allowed him to listen to the Immortal  Alliance’s secrets. He even permitted Feng Ci to cause trouble in front of a respected master of the cultivation world.

Was this only because he had saved Pei QianYue once in the secret realm under the roots of the BanYan tree?

Or……did he already sense something?

Feng Ci asked him: “Do you not have any questions you want to ask me?”

“I do.”

Pei QianYue opened his mouth, voice soft and quiet: “Your soul, is it really from this world?”

Feng Ci was stunned.

Never did he imagine Pei QianYue would ask this question.

How would he know about….. “this world”?

The existence of the Sumeru worlds has always been a secret.

This was very easy to understand. It’s human nature to explore the unknown. If everyone knew that they resided in only one of countless worlds, naturally there would be numerous people wanting to keep exploring. The more these kinds of people exist, the more likely it is to create chaos to the order of the worlds and result in irreversible consequences.

Even Feng Ci only learned of this after becoming the Son of Heaven and accidentally peeking into the mysteries of the universe.

Why would Pei QianYue know this?

Did he mention it before?

Feng Ci couldn’t remember.

He feigned a confused look: “City Master, what do you mean by this? What do you mean ‘this world’? Is there some other world? This disciple doesn’t understand.”

Pei QianYue: “You don’t understand?”

Feng Ci: “I don’t.”

Pei QianYue stopped talking.

From start to finish, his expression has been indifferent. Feng Ci couldn’t see anything unusual, much less guess what he was thinking.

Feng Ci still wanted to probe slightly, but he heard Pei QianYue say coldly: “If you say so.”

After saying this, he raised his hand and created a sword. Figure transforming into the afterimage of the sword, he disappeared on the spot.

Feng Ci: “……”

Feng Ci: “???”

Why did he suddenly get angry?

Weren’t they chatting fine together just a second ago? How could he leave just like that?

He’s already 3000 years old. Couldn’t he behave with a bit more maturity???
