In the darkness, a man was lying on the ground with a hand cut off and both of his legs wounded.

Beside him, a man was crouching with a playful smile.

“So, are you going to answer?” Vlad asked with a voice that sent shivers down the man’s spine.

“W-Will you spare me if I told you?”

“It depends on my mood. But if you don’t, I will extract every drop of blood inside your body while you are still alive. So, do we have a deal?”

“P-Please… S-Spare me...”

Vlad’s eyes became cold.

“Are you going to answer or not?” He asked while putting a finger on the man's forehead. Then, he put strength on the finger, slowly piercing through his skin.

The intense pain made the man scream.

“S-Stop! S-Stop, please! I-I will talk... I-I will talk!”

“Good boy.” Vlad smiled. “Tell me, where did you learn of this place?”

“O-Old cat, h-he was one of the men you killed. H-He learned about it from one of the servants of the Radetic Family.”

“A servant? Why did a servant know about this place?”

“I-I d-don’t know. O-Old cat w-was raping his daughter, and the s-servant told him about this place to ask him to s-spare her.”

Vlad’s eyes became ice-cold.

“And I imagine he did not spare her.”

“… P-Please… I-It was not my fault. I-It was not me!”

“I know. But you also participated in the attack on the Radetic Family, right? It means that you are also guilty.”

The man paled and his expression was filled with terror.

“… A-Are you a p-person of the R-Radetic Family?”

Vlad did not reply. Instead, he asked another question.

“Tell me who participated in the attack of that night.”

“I-I don’t know… Aggh! S-Stop! I-I really don’t know! I-I’m just a w-worthless thug, h-how c-can I know that? S-Someone contacted me a few days ago and offered me a high-pay job. I-I did not know the details of the job until the moment of the attack!”

Vlad furrowed his brows.

“Who is the person that told you about that job?”

“I-I d-don’t know.”

“Mm… Should I cut a finger? Perhaps I can gouge one of your eyes.”

“I-I really don’t know! E-Everybody was using masks! The only people I knew were the three men you killed! P-Please… L-Let me go…”

Vlad frowned, then, he let out a sigh.

“Sorry, I can’t.”

And his dagger slit the man’s throat.

As the man bleed out to death, Vlad stood up with a pensive expression.

“As expected, it can’t be so easy. However, this is a good start.”

These four men were among the people that participated in the attack on his family, and tonight, Vlad had made them pay for it.

But his goal was to make every person and faction involved in the destruction of his family pay.

Suddenly, Vlad frowned.

His ears caught the noises coming from outside. Several people had heard the screams coming from the shop, and they had called the city guards.

They were going to show up soon.

“It’s time to leave.”

However, he did not want to leave just like this.

Even though he had tortured a man for information, the clues had been cut off. Vlad was thinking of a way to find more clues.

At that moment, a memory of his previous life came to his mind.

“A good idea.” Vlad's eyes lit up. Without hesitating, he brought his hand to the neck of the man he just killed and drenched it in blood.

Then, he used the blood to draw a symbol on the wall.

It was a five-pointed star with a circle connecting all the points and a drop in the center of the start, plus three dots inside the drop.

It was one of the simplest spells used in his previous world, and its purpose was to eavesdrop. This kind of spell did not exist in this world, though.

When he was done, Vlad bit his lips and put a drop of his blood in the spell, then, he used the drop of blood to activate it.

Blood had mana, so it was a great catalyst for spells. Unfortunately, because the mana in the blood would fade out quickly, the spells fueled through this method did not last long.

However, Vlad only needed to keep this spell active for a couple of hours.

A few seconds later, his lips curved up.

“It looks like it worked.”

At that moment, the sound of footsteps approaching reached his ears.

The city guards.

Vlad calmly put on the hood and left the old store. He then looked at approaching guards and smiled.

“Stop!” One of the guards saw him and shouted alarmed, but Vlad just turned around and walked away.

“I told you to stop!” The guard’s expression became angry. He filled his body with mana and accelerated in Vlad’s direction.

But in the next instant, his pupils constricted.

Vlad had vanished in the darkness.
