Chapter 9: CHAPTER 7

December 25th, 2070

A random Underground Lab

Moscow, Russia

The underground chamber was well lit. The stones it the walls shine from the white light. The base was covered with grey tiles.

In the center of the chamber was a huge cylindrical room. It could easily fit 50 people, maybe more if they tried. This was the time capsule.

There was also a huge computer attached to the time capsule with screens showing the date, time, and location.

Working on the computer stood a caucasian man wearing a white coat and black trousers. He had a black shirt under his coat. His face was covered with a salt and pepper beard and blue eyes. As he stood working on the computer, a man entered the chamber.

“Dr. Conners? Everyone is ready” said the man to the scientist. He was dressed in a green military uniform and was armed with a gun.

“Are they?” Dr. Conners confirmed. “Good. Have them assemble here. I would like to talk to them and explain our mission before we get started.”

“Yes sir,” the soldier replied. He exited the chamber and soon the group of soldiers waiting outside entered the chamber.

“Is everyone here?” Dr. Conners asked. The soldiers answered in the affirmative. “Alright. Now, I’m sure you have heard bits and pieces of our mission but let me tell you the details.

“As you all know, the world is going through a crisis. The food cannot keep up with the population growth, the air is polluted, we have a shortage of water because every source is polluted and even our fossil fuels have run out. All the wars between the countries don’t seem to be helping. That’s why the scientists and historians in Moscow have been trying to pinpoint the source of the problems. And we’ve determined that these problems aren’t ours.“

Dr. conners looked at the confused faces of the soldiers. “Yes, these problems aren’t ours. We have inherited them. In fact, we’ve been digging through the history books to determine the starting point of this conflict and after years of research, we’ve pinpointed the origin of this conflict. The conflicts start in the world war I. you’re probably wondering why that matters, right? Why does a war more than 150 years old matter to us?”

Dr. Conners took a deep breath. “I’m sure you all have heard of time travel, right? In movies, books, or maybe comics. In the year 2050, a United States scientist had found the secret of time travel. When the rumors reached the Russian government, our men informed us. And we started sneaking in people to the team members of the scientist involved. It took a long time, but 5 years ago one of our spies passed the designs and formulas of the machine to us. Since then, I’ve been building the machine in the hopes of traveling to the world war 1 and putting a stop to this endless conflict.” He looked at all the soldiers assembled. “And I’ve selected you for this purpose. This is a sacrifice that I won’t be forcing you to make. Understand that this is a one-way trip. There’s no coming back. So, if any of you have any hesitation, you can leave right now. No one will stop you. There will be no consequences,” Dr. Conners waited for a few seconds. “Good. I’m glad to see I didn’t choose wrong. We’re going to travel to Russia in world war 1 and make sure our country wins. And then, we’ll ensure a systematic use of nature. We’ll stop everyone from exploiting the resources. We’ll stop the air and water pollution and we’ll save the planet!” He finished, feeling empowered with the goal in his mind.

The soldiers standing in front of him were also clearly motivated. 

“Now, I want all of you to get your weapons and enter the cylindrical room here. That’s the time capsule. It’ll take us all to our destination.” Dr. Conners started setting up the machine as all the soldiers entered the capsule. Once he set the timer, he entered the capsule and closed the door. 

The timer started on the screen.
