As she slept late, she didn't want to wake up early. But she knew she had to as she had to go meet with her mother. She woke up and went to the washroom. She took out her phone and sat on the toilet. Yesterday, she didn't get time to check her work so she opened her email folder. There were a thousand emails. She eye-balled every one of them, replied the important one and left the unimportant ones unanswered.
She then composed a mail for Priyanka giving her the instruction to reply to the remaining emails. There were a few emails that demanded her to take a look at new designs. She star marked those and closed her phone.
She brushed her teeth and went for a shower. She let the warm water fall over her. Her memory flashed to last night. She smiled at what the price old man was going to quote to her for living there. She was more than ready for a war. In his mind, he was the richest man in Korea, he had no idea how rich and famous she was. Not only she had her business money, but she also had her family money. After all, she was the only heir of Dewans.
She finished her shower and came out in a towel. She took out a summer yellow jumpsuit that had flower prints on them. She blow-dried her long hair and got ready. She put on a white hairband and let her hair free-flowing. She paired her jumpsuit with a white belt to match with her hairband. As a designer, she also knew the effects of colour on the human brain. She knew yellow promotes happiness and she needed happiness in her life, urgently. After the constant crying of yesterday, all she wanted was happiness, joy.
She came down bringing a bag with her. It had a few items of clothing and toiletries for her mother. If doctors wanted to keep her for another day in the hospital she was armed and ready. As she was descending the stairs, Bong-Cha wolf-whistled at her. She rolled her eyes and shook her head but was smiling mildly.
"You are ready?" asked Eun-Kyung with surprise as it was still early in the morning.
"Yes. I wanted to go meet her asap," replied Ashma.
"Give me five minutes I will come with you."
"Okay, Mumma."
"I will come too," requested Bong-Cha.
"You have to go to your college," scolded Eun-Kyung.
"I don't want to," pouted Bong-Cha. Her face became sad. Ashma narrowed her eyes and observed her expressions. Something was wrong, but she discarded that feeling. She wanted nothing to do with others' problems.
After breakfast, Bong-Cha went to her college with a big pout. Ashma waited for Eun-Kyung at the breakfast table. She kept tapping the table with anxiety.
"Would you like to eat something?" asked Pyo In-Ho.
She smiled at him with gratitude and replied, "no, thank you. I don't think I will be able to."
"I make a mean kimchi egg and dalgona coffee," he baited her. As she loved coffee, she could not say no to that.
"What are kimchi eggs?" she asked.
"I can give out my secret recipe," he teased to make her smile more.
His tricked worked as she laughed. "Ha-ha, fine, I will try."
Pyo In-Ho was very happy, he smiled at her sweetly. He turned around to make breakfast for her. All other servants were helping him and were busy with other household chores.
Suddenly a commanding voice entered the kitchen. "So you started with your freeloading straight from the morning," commanded Young-Jae.
"Still waiting for your bill, old man." Ashma was not fazed with his comment. She replied back in the same tone.
"How dare…" he started his patented phrase.
But before he could complete, Ashma shouted in a mocking tone, "How dare you?" After she mocked him she sniggered, hard.
Fumes came out of his ears. "Send my breakfast to my room. I cannot look at her and eat my food," he ordered.
She sighed with relief and said, "thank god! Same here." He walked away seething.
Before he could exit, she taunted him further, "send me the bill, I will be waiting."
He turned to stare at her with anger but she was smirking at him. He lost his cool and was about to scold her but at the exact moment, Baek-Hyeon walked in while talking on the phone. They both bumped and Baek-Hyeon stumbled and fell to the ground. Young-Jae too stumbled but he placed his hands on a nearby wall and gained his balance.
Ashma laughed out loud. All the servants were shocked as to see how Ashma treated their big boss. The audacity she possessed, the way she talked to him, the way she replied to him was new to them. No matter where he was, with whom he was he always warranted respect but not with Ashma, she treated him like trash. He had no status or capability in her eyes, she went to battle every time she saw him and always won.
Instead of scolding Ashma, he dumped all his anger on Baek-Hyeon, "can't you see and walk. This generation, always on their phone."
"As if you have your eyes on your back," she taunted and again laughed at him.
He clenched his fists and shouted, "I will show you."
"I will wait for you." She chuckled hard.
Young-Jae walked away and Baek-Hyeon kept staring at his angry grandfather. He kept looking in his direction but kept walking inside the kitchen. He was too afraid of angry Young-Jae. He reached the white marble breakfast table of the beautiful colourful kitchen and sat on a chair. He looked at his phone, even though his phone didn't fall, he checked it for cracks. His phone was okay.
"Why do you keep challenging him?" he asked.
"I love to frustrate him. That gives me happiness," she said with a huge smile on her face.
"You have no idea who he is, do you?" he whispered.
She whispered back, "no, I don't. I really don't and to tell you the truth, I don't want to."
"He never loses," his original volume returned.
"Neither do I," said Ashma with confidence.
"So you want a war?" asked Beak-Hyeon with concern on his face.
"I want peace." She made a peace sign with her fingers.
"Well he always wants war. Hell! He is always at war with someone."
"See it's his problem. I just want to cure him," she teased.
Baek-Hyeon smiled at her tease. The kitchen was smelling scrumptious. The sweet, aroma of coffee mixed with spicy eggs made her hungry.
"Here is your breakfast," said Pyo In-Ho. He presented a plate with mouth-watering, gorgeous eggs and light brown dalgona coffee in a big cup.
"Thank you," she smiled with all the appreciativeness she had in her body. She took a bite. Her face had expressions as if she saw heaven. "Wow!" was all she could utter.
"You like that, Nuna," said Baek-Hyeon while eating his breakfast.
"What is Nuna?" She took another bite.
"Oh, Nuna means elder sister," he explained.
The moment he explained her, the food dislodged in her windpipe and she choked on her food and started coughing.
Pyo-In-Ho and Baek-Hyeon ran to her. Iseul brought a glass of water for her.
Abruptly, Eun-Kyung walked into the kitchen and ran to Ashma after seeing her in distress. "What happened?"
"I don't know, she was eating and then she choked," replied Baek-Hyeon.
"What did you say?" she scolded him.
"Why do you think I did something?"
"I don't know, because you are a moron," she scolded him and kept patting Ashma's back.
"Uhmma!" sulked Baek-Hyeon.
"If I may, ma'am I think she choked because he called her Nuna," In-Ho put forward his theory.
"What?" shouted Baek-Hyeon with shock. He didn't realise but that was true. He called her sister and she suffocated. Were relationships so suffocating for her? Why was she not ready to accept new relationships?
"Is that right?" asked Eun-Kyung.
Before Baek-Hyeon could answer, Ashma spoke, "I am sorry" and she ran away from there without eating her food.
She couldn't understand why she gave that reaction. Why was she so upset that she choked on her food? She looked at the phone for the time and walked out of the kitchen. She came out and bumped into Young-Jae who after having his breakfast and was going to the office.
"Can't you see where you are walking?" shouted Young-Jae.
"What about you?" Ashma shouted back.
"What about me?" asked Young-Jae surprised.
"First, you bumped into Baek-Hyeon and now me, get your eyes checked up old man and stop scolding everyone else for your mistake," she yelled at him. Her eyes were red and she was shivering with anger.
As per rule, he again walked away without replying to her. She stared at his back as he walked away.
Hearing all the yelling and shouting, Eun-Kyung and Baek-Hyeon came running.
"I am sorry, I didn't mean to call you Nuna," apologised Baek-Hyeon.
Without looking at him, she said, "Baek-Hyeon, as I said before, I am not here for any relationship. You don't want a relationship with me." She moved her head up and said to Eun-Kyung, "Mumma, I will call a cab and we can leave."
"No, we will go in my car," she placed her hand on Ashma's shoulder and comforted her.
