Third POV

"Tee-hee-hee.", the green-haired woman giggled as she titled her and covered her lips with her dainty finger.

Then she burst out in a mad cackle, "Pfff-Hahahahahahahah-hahahaha! *inhale* HAHAHAHAHAHahaha-phew."

Kaede realized what she just blurted out but she didn't excuse herself, in fact, she slowly got out of the bed where she landed, trying to get as far away as possible from the maniacally laughing eccentric woman that was potentially insane.

"Haaa that's not how you greet your new Mama, K-a-e-d-e.", the green-haired woman uttered with a small frown and a quirk on her lips but it soon returned to her earlier playful expression.

The red-haired girl sighed, she was alive and that was all that mattered, truly, being aggressive and a brat to the woman in front of her won't help.

She had overreacted before and she wasn't in a state where she was capable of defending herself, it affected her, she also wasn't used to body contact. The only ones were related to violence or her playing with her dog.

She was alone until eight months ago when she found Bubble, he was abandoned and wounded. On the verge of death.

"What do you mean by new 'mama' and again who are you?", Kaede bluntly asked, her hands shifted a bit, she was too blunt again. But it needed to be asked and the woman didn't seem offended.

She was bewildered at the sudden and awkward declaration, and she deduced that the lady was connected in some way to the silver-eyed man.

You didn't need to be a genius unless the woman in front of her randomly walked in the middle of nowhere and picked up the unconscious little girl here before bringing them back to their home and not the hospital.

Also spontaneously adopting said little girl.

"Oh! How so very clumsy of me! My pen and human name are Takatsuki Sen. I'm a novelist, and without sounding obnoxious. I'm a sort of celebrity myself. Though that obviously is not my real identity.

My real name is Yoshimura Eto, an abandoned child different from others just like you. I won't hide those facts from you, we are going to be family after, after all.", Eto introduced herself.

She just took a very big gambit by saying this but it's better than Kaede discovering it later in less than favorable conditions.

And the girl wasn't stupid, she survived in an orphanage that wanted her dead. She would have been suspicious anyway and it would have brought more problems, avoidable problems.

She clasped her hand together before taking a pair of round glasses from her yellow overall pocket and putting them on the bridge of her nose, as her eyes right became pure black with a glowing blood red iris and black gains like crack appeared on her.

'Fuck, I knew it. Out of the fire and into the frying pan or volcano here. That why she said she was different like me.', though Kaede in schadenfreude at herself while she starred at the unnerving but fascinating sole kakugan of Eto.

She instinctively started to pet the sleeping Bubble in her arms, it helped her calm down. He was a ball of love and fluff that served as an anti-stress ball for her.

Eto ceased her kakugans seeing that it greatly unnerved the little girl, that still maintained a straight face, the halfbreed was sadistic and beyond, but here it was counterproductive.

"And the first?", the girl calmly asked, it was very unusual, she wasn't in her comfort zone at all and she knew that she didn't have any real say in the matter of what happened to her.

At least it offered an opportunity, she killed kids and was going to run from the orphanage, what was she going to do next?

She was alone in this world from the moment she was reborn and abandoned. Orphans don't have the best of life and she was hated in the orphanage, she had it worse, worse than what should be humanly acceptable.

She knew that some had it worse than her but that didn't help her feel any better.

However, she is used to this kind of thing. That didn't change the fact that she was presently incredibly scared about her future.

She didn't have any control over the situation. If she was mentally a normal child it would have been okay-ish but she wasn't, at least not totally her body age affected her more than she liked.

Eto's eyes went comically wide as she nodded and took out a folded piece of paper from another pocket and gently said while tapping the pink comforter with her hand, "Come here, Kaede. I don't bite."

And so Kaede did just that, she sat with unhidden discomfort next to Eto, then took the paper from the one-eyed ghoul's open hand, unfolded it, and started reading it. Her expression hardly changed as she did so.

It was an 'official' Japanese adoption paper.

'Is this even legal? Shouldn't there be someone more official doing this?', Kaede wondered as she kept on reading the suspicious document.

She didn't know it, but adoption is quite loose in this world and with connection nearly everything is possible. Which Arima and Eto had plenty.

Orphans are way more common than in her past life, too common in fact, and for obvious but tragic reasons, for ghouls and humans alike. What was going on was quite normal if we ignore some minor and unimportant details.

It said her name Kaede, her new surname Takatsuki, this didn't surprise her, Yoshimura was her true surname so hiding here also made sense.

Then her age, she is  10 years old, her birthday is December 25th, her date of birth and nearly everything about her, there even was her blood type, it was AB+ and she didn't even know it until now.

She never did one. For obvious reasons. So they did the test while she was unconscious and an unknown number of others too.

Some information was missing or modified such as the name of the orphanage, its location, etc.

Kaede looked at Eto and asked, "Can I have a pen, please?"

The green-haired woman nodded with a small smile, gave her a pen that she took out of nowhere, and said with a smile, "Here."

'Fuck it. Let's sign it and hope for the best.', decisively thought Kaede as she wrote her name and signed the paper. Making her officially the adopted daughter of Takatsuki Sen renowned novelist and unofficially Yoshimura Eto the One-Eyed Owl.

Yoshimura Eto POV

It has been one day since I adopted the little RC-cell-less girl. She is… Unique. That is how I will qualify my adopted daughter.

I will consider her like my daughter but at the same time a tool, I won't half-ass my job like my Father. Even if I don't know what exactly a mother is and how she raises her kid. I will raise her in my own way.

From what Arima described she is supposed to have a sort of invisible 'kagune' with four arms that can harden to smash kids around a room, to paint it red, phase through matter, and also cut little boys into bloody pieces.

She had talent and the personality to boot. I already can't wait to see her on the battlefield.

Nevertheless, her left horn is still broken and I'm not cut into fine little slices of meat. So I can assume that her horns play an important role in their use.

And they are harder than IXA, I know the danger of this quinque, so they are not really a weakness you could use in the middle of a battle. Aiming anywhere else for vitals seems a way better idea.

Kaede nearly killed Arima and I can't help but think how amusing the whole incident was.

I confirmed again that she wasn't human nor a ghoul or like me a halfbreed, she didn't smell like any of those, and the natural horns are glaringly obvious, though not extraordinary. Some newborns are born with two heads, and a pair of horns isn't that far-fetched or surprising.

A new natural variant of the human species, would she destroy everyone or bring peace between every species? Who knows.

Not me for sure but in every scenario with Aogiri, she will bring change by destroying this stalemate the world is currently in. And I will make sure of it. You destroy what can't be fixed to rebuild something better.

Her scent was different, you wouldn't even smell her if you are not in very close proximity to her, and if you are, it is as if you inhaled something fruity and natural, similar to that of a forest of sakura in the middle of spring, not very appetizing for most ghouls, me included but some ghouls have peculiar tastes.

And since most ghouls depend on their olfactory senses, she is invisible to most ghouls and even the CCG's RC scanner, since she apparently doesn't have any RC cells.

She knew that what was going on was fishy, but she is smart enough to not try anything dumb, like running away even when I gave her the keys to the house. To show her that she can run if she wants. She reminds me a bit of myself when I was her age. Ah, the nostalgia!

I was currently sitting on a chair, my hands holding my chin, with my elbow on the table, my feets dangling below. As I stared at little Kaede.

She was looking with her piercing red eyes at the normal human meal that I bought at the supermarket, the first time she will eat out of the orphanage, I bought it since I don't know how to cook, ah, and she looked at the meat in the food weirdly.

"It isn't human flesh, it's chicken you can eat it.", I playfully informed her about the nature of the meat, knowing why she asked. It wouldn't be cannibalism anyway.

I would have preferred to give her human flesh, raw and fresh enough for it to still be warm so that I can eat with her, maybe later. She cast me a doubtful glance but still started to eat her food.

"Delicious…", she mumbled and smiled ever so slightly as if she ate something incredible. It was one of the rare times her expression changed, even when I introduced myself she kept this ever-bored expression of her.

For me, everything humans eat tastes like shit but I at least know that what I bought isn't supposed to be that good.

Ah, she smiled and gave a piece of chicken to her crippled dog on her lap. Cute.
