“I am sorry, I didn’t mean to startle you.” The girl in front of me said to me while glancing down at my leg that had liquid running down it. I just looked up at her with terror in my whole being. “Please don’t kill me!” She looked at me worriedly then she knelt down in front of me causing me to cower even more against the door. “I promise, I won’t hurt you. Can you tell me what happened?” I shook my head.
“I see… Can you at least tell me your name?” She asked while smiling at me. “M-my name is E-Evelynn.” She showed a beautiful smile which made my heart that was beating rapidly calm down. “Nice to meet you, Evelynn, you may call me Lily. I can shelter you here for the time being. I’ll help you clean up if you will allow it.” I nodded my head. I wanted to accept the first kindness anyone has shown to me in this world.
“Will you be able to stand on your own?” I shot up as soon as I heard a rumbling sound outside. My legs started trembling and I started to sweat bullets. “Please, can I hide somewhere?” I grabbed her by the shoulders when she didn’t say anything this time I spoke louder. “Please, they will kill me!”
“Alright, let go of me! I have somewhere you can hide, but you will need to explain yourself later!” I followed her to the back of her house where she lifted up a rug, under the rug was a latch. After opening the latch she gestured to the stairs that were now visible. I walked down the dark stairway a few steps and then she closed the latch. It was entirely pitch black on the steps, and I couldn’t see anything at the bottom. Instead of continuing down, I put my ear to the latch to hear what was going on outside.
I heard a knocking sound towards the door of the house followed by Lily’s voice. It was faint, but I could hear what she was saying. “For knights of the kingdom to visit my humble abode, for what do I owe the pleasure for this visit?” I heard the knight that ran me through the first time with his sword respond. “We are looking for any evidence of ‘The Black Witch’. Have you seen any suspicious activity or suspicious persons?”
I held my breath as Lily didn’t respond for a while. “Please don’t sell me out.” I whispered making sure that my voice wouldn’t travel to them. After what felt like an eternity, but was probably only a few seconds she responded to them. “I have neither seen suspicious activity, nor have I seen a suspicious person. The only thing suspicious is that the kingdom's knights are in my house. You are looking for ‘The Black Witch’? Don’t make me laugh. Everyone knows she died only recently. If she were to revive this fast everytime wouldn’t the state of the world be in jeopardy?”
“I’ll forgive your insolence because of your standing in this kingdom this time, but remember, you gave up your position in this kingdom. I won’t have a retired has been talking back to me and my knights. It makes me look bad as their superior, and it makes you look like a fool. If you have nothing left to say then we shall be on our way. Unlike others, we are very busy these days.”
“Yea, yea just get the hell out of my house. You are sending 12 knights for a lone girl. Do you have any pride?”
“You know as well as I do that our target is not a ‘lone girl’. She is a damn fortress. We will need to arrest her before she can amass strength. Anyway, I already said too much. Well then, I will take my leave. I hope we never meet again.”
“Likewise.”
I heard the door open again, and I sighed in relief as the sound of footsteps left the building. Then I heard a single pair of feet walk over to where I was. “You can come out now, they are gone.” She lifted the hatch, and I exited the claustrophobic space. “Thank you so much for hiding me from them.” I said, noticing that my eyes were beginning to tear up.
“Don’t get all sentimental on me now, and don’t misunderstand anything either. I will have you explain yourself, but first, we need to get you cleaned up.”

After that she helped me wash my body in a wooden bath, and she gave me some loose fitting clothes. I was now wearing a pair of brown pants and a loose black shirt. She led me to her small dining area that had a small table with 2 chairs opposite each other. She sat down some tea cups that she pulled out of nowhere for me and her. The tea cups were small white cups. After that she pulled out a large white tea pot from nowhere. Then she began pouring warm tea into the cups. I was stunned from the casual display of magic, and I’m sure my mouth was hanging open as she smiled at me.
“Now then…” She said before bringing the tea cup to her mouth to drink. I just watched her before she continued. “Drink up, it isn't poisoned.” Slowly I brought the warm tea to my mouth. Honestly, the tea had a splendid flavor. I always enjoyed black tea. Huh? How did I remember that? It is weird that I can remember the taste of black tea. Earlier I also remembered my name. When did I get those memories? Was it back when… I didn’t even want to remember the deaths. The fear was ingrained in my soul. The tea cup in my hand started shaking along with my hand as I remembered the pain.
“What’s wrong? I didn’t mean to scare you. I apologize for saying what comes to my mind. It is a bit of a habit.” She looked at me with visible concern in her eyes. My hand stopped trembling as I looked at her. She was a breath of fresh air in this awful scenario. “Thank you again for hiding me! I honestly don’t know what I was going to do if I didn’t find you here.” I thanked her earnestly and bowed to her. When I looked up her face was bright red before she responded to me.
“L-like I said before d-don’t mention it. I only helped you because I needed something from you. In any case! I have questions that require answers.” She said while waving her hands in the air. Her face was still bright red. Looking at her now when I wasn’t terrified. She was quite beautiful. She had beautiful hazel eyes and long brown hair. Her face was one of chiseled beauty. She was wearing a beautiful long black dress. I just stared at her now red face in awe. She was so pretty. “Beautiful…” Was all that came out of my mouth as I stared at her.
I quickly covered my mouth as the word left it. I looked at her and her face went even redder like a tomato. She coughed into her hand awkwardly. “W-what are you s-saying!? I am telling you that you need to explain yourself!”
I completely forgot my earlier plight as I began to giggle. “Why are you laughing!?”
“I am sorry… I am just so exasperated with myself that I can’t help, but laugh at the absurdity of this whole situation.”
“You are weird! What are you even saying!?” I could only laugh even harder when she responded to me. Her face had a pout that wasn’t helping me at all as I broke down into more laughter. I almost fell out of my chair laughing before I could collect myself.
She simply stared at me with worry on her face as my laugh trailed off. “I am sorry. I needed a good laugh, so thank you for that too.”
“Hmph…” She looked away from me, her face turning red again. “Again, you still haven’t told me anything!” She said looking back at me. I looked down at the wooden table. “Where do I even start?”
