Chapter 8: Chapter 7: At Youkai Mountain

The Vampire and her Maid were heading to their next destination: the Youkai Mountain where multiple gods reside living thanks to Faith from Mortals, location of the Moriya Shrine, one of Hakurei Temple's rivals even if the Shrine Maiden Sanae Kochiya has grown fond of Reimu Hakurei as a figure to admire and respect.

Twilight was on sky, the sun sets while the two girls ascend by the Tengu Waterfall.

Remilia: "Our goal is to talk with the Moriya Goddesses and get them to come with us, Sakuya."

Sakuya: "I trust that this faction should be more friendly to us than Eientei. As long as my Intel is not mistaken... Suwako Moriya and Sanae Kochiya seems Reimu as an ally when incidents come."

Remilia: "Everyone has interests on their own. Maybe I consider the Maiden a good friend of us at this point. I hope they too, because I've heard of how Kanako Yasaka, the Snake Moriya Goddess makes business with everything, faith included."

Sakuya: "That's something to have in consideration, Mistress. She probably hasn't Reimu in a so high regard like us. I suggest to see what happens first before making a plan. I doubt they try to attack us. Even so, I'll remain careful."

Remilia: "Humans like you or Reimu make me think different of your race. With no doubts I'm not the same Vampire from the Scarlet Mist days. Now let's get to work, Sakuya."

When they ascended, a white fur humanoid Wolf Tengu with white bob hair, red eyes like rubies, a short fluffy tail, wearing an oriental attire and a small hat of combining colors with her scheme did appear wielding a scimitar and a shield.

Momiji: "Who goes? State the reason of your visit. I'm on guard duty and I must verify if you are intruders."

Remilia: "Remilia Scarlet, head of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. We have come to speak with the Moriya Goddess."

Sakuya: "There's an incident and Reimu will need us this time."

Momiji: "I see... you may pass but don't try anything funny."

Remilia: "We wont, you should be grateful that we aren't enemies and pick another tone to speak us. I say it for your own good."

Momiji: "How dare you?"

The Wolf Tengu was prepared to charge at Remilia but Sakuya did stop time and made plenty of daggers stack around her. Momiji was hiding behind the shield after it.

Sakuya: "Think about swinging your blade twice. Otherwise some knifes may slip out of my hands. We are out of your league, and showing us disrespect puts the Youkai Mountain reputation in question."

The Vampire giggles.

Remilia: "Leave her, Sakuya. We have no time to waste."

Sakuya: "Understood."

The spell ceased and the daggers dissapeared. Momiji did draw back gnashing teeth.

Remilia: "Wolf Tengu tend to be defiant. But sometimes a Hunter isn't aware that their prey could be bigger than them. However, Violence is just for when Diplomacy fails."

Once at the top, the Tengu city was ahead. A familiar reporter would be seen in some distance. When Aya becomes aware of Sakuya and Remilia's presence, she makes some hilarious gag gestures of shock with blank eyes and a smile of circumnstance.

Aya: "Don't tell me that you have come here just to hunt me down! You're cruel!"

Sakuya: "Calm down, I have no business with you right now."

Remilia: "You should consider stop sneaking at my Mansion, crow tengu. Next time, Sakuya will wrap you and I'll slowly suck your blood~."

Without learning her lesson, the Tengu gets a small notebook and a pen.

Aya: "Slowly? Tell me, Mistress, is kidnapping victims and gently toying with them one of your hidden pervert kinks? This looks like a great exclusive!"

Remilia: "You never learn, right?"

Sakuya: "Seems like not."

The crow tengu starts flying away at full speed, laughing like crazy with a mischievous expression on her face.

Aya: "Hahaha! I got a big breaking new! Extra-Ex- AYAYAYAYA!"

Screams when realizes that Sakuya got her moment of joy as an advantage to stop time in a second to change her notebook for a poker card of a Spade. It starts expulsing smoke and finally the reporter due to not seeing anything strikes herself against a cliff. With spiral eyes she starts falling.

Remilia: "That was quite entertaining. What do you think if I hire her as a buffon?"

Sakuya: "Unless you want even more chaos than just with the Little Mistress..."

Remilia: "You have a point. Such a pity, I don't want Flandre to become even crazier. Very well, the Shrine stairs await us."

Before entering the Shrine Grounds, some sort of colossal mechanical humanoid monster was there, being adjusted by a Kappa Engineer. She was looking like a teenager, with blue bob hair in half pigtails, wearing a water blue dress and a green military camouflage backpack. It was Nitori Kawashiro, one of the most skilled of her species in technologic studies and building. The mechanic beast was impressive and some crowd watched it with admiration. It was blue and green in color schemes, and white on its limbs, with metallic paint and it resembles an armored warrior with oriental samurai helmet and heavy armor.

Sakuya: "What's this? Is some sort of statue?"

Remilia: "A metallic sculpture?" 

The Kappa giggles. It was common for her to hear such assumptions from almost everyone else. She lands in front of the two girls wielding a heavy wrench, and covered in some oil due to the intense work.

Nitori: "It's the next guardian of the Youkai Mountain, Sanae asked me to make a Mecha and it's almost finally over! I'm Nitori Kawashiro, pleased to meet you."

Remilia: "A guardian? This machine can obey you?"

Nitori: "Yup, because only I can control it. You seem to be non familiar with technology. A Mecha was a fictional machine in Outer World graphic stories known as Manga. I had to inspire in what Sanae gave me to design it."

Sakuya: "Hmm... I would like to see what it's capable of doing."

Nitori: "For now it can fly. I still need some time to calculate the energy consumption limit and give it weapons. Do you like particle beams? Light Sabers? Atomic Missiles?"

Sakuya: "Sounds dangerous."

Remilia: "I'll hire you if you have success making this. Sakuya could have some help to leave her rest more often."

Nitori: "May I ask the reason of your visit?"

They take some time to explain Nitori everything about the incident.

Nitori: "Reimu? I have to help her! I'll go with you. Kanako-Sama maybe could hear me since she's one of my main investors."

Sakuya: "This Kappa seems reliable. I would hardly believe she could lie without looking like an open book."

Remilia: "And seems nice enough to me. Welcome aboard, Nitori."

Nitori: "Thanks, uhh... sorry for my manners. I was thinking with my focus on the Project since I try to be professional."

Remilia: "Remilia Scarlet, head of the Scarlet Devil Mansion. She's Sakuya, my reliable Maid."

Sakuya: "Lead the way, you know this place better."

Nitori nods, guiding the two girls to Moriya Shrine entrance. Once in there, they reach a place with tombs in form of colossal pillars. A woman with purple bob hair came flying in front of them, she was tall and had a prideful look, like if she considered Remilia and Sakuya to be inferior. She was wearing a red oriental attire. It was the Moriya Snake Goddess.

Kanako: "This is the first time a Vampire comes to holy land. Do you even have any shame? Nitori, did you bring them as Sacrifice? Good job."

Nitori: "It's not that... Kanako-Sama, they have an important matter to discuss."

Remilia: "However, this goddess talks too high to be the same who uses Faith as something solely for money purpose."

Kanako: "I'll say it clear: abandon my shrine unless you want to be exterminated."

Sakuya: "Mistress, should I?"

Remilia: "Not yet, Sakuya. We need to explain everything first."

Nitori: "Please, avoid fighting here."

The Goddess tilts her head, thinking on what might a Vampire have to explain her. She talks about the incident and what they need to do.

Kanako: "So you are telling me that the Hakurei Brat needs every ex-incident causer she can get. Probably Sanae and Suwako got some appreciation on her but I'm not on the same boat. I despise her way of handling her shrine. Why should I lend my help to you?"

Sakuya: "This affects you too."

Kanako: "The Moriya Shrine will solve the problem. With our own methods, no youkai and mortal servant is going to say me how. With Nitori's last project our military power will vastly increase."

The Kappa was sighing.

Nitori: "I don't make weapons to end things like this, Kanako-Sama. You may like or dislike them but in the end I think they have a point."

Sakuya: "So... you believe you are above Reimu or us. At least this Kappa has some common sense. Won't you hear her?"

Kanako: "Morally I'm above and in strenght I can overcome you."

Nitori: "You know that Suwako-Sama and Sanae-Chan won't approve it. Take my opinion as an offense if you like. But even if you are a great help for my research, Gensokyo is first and Pride, rules, divinities or factions should be after it. It's common sense, so I'll have to side with them."

Remilia: "If you are so sure of winning... you don't mind if we challenge you, right? But if we win you'll have to cooperate... and give us Nitori. This Kappa is too good for being in your side."

Nitori: "You flatter me. But to tell the truth, I'm on science and technology side. If Gensokyo perishes, it's over. For everyone."

Kanako: "Hah, I don't want treats with lowly youkai! Alright Nitori, if that's your decission, come at me. But don't expect me to be easy on you."

The Vampire's eyes start glowing and she laughs. Shows her fangs menacingly and Gungnir, the legendary Spear materializes on her hands.

Remilia: "Why not make this small negotiation with us? You aren't afraid after all... or yes?"

Kanako: "Tch, alright. But you'll perish here and unite the rest of the tombs. In this Battlefield every pillar you see... they died defying me. You are the next."

Remilia: "Negotiations are over, Sakuya."

The Maid prepares a ton of sharp knifes between her fingers.

Sakuya: "Time to clean, as always."

Kanako: "Let's see how do you handle the faith of Mortals. Last Word: Mountain of Faith!"

Nitori: "Don't stop moving, this spell is dangerous!"

Since the beginning, the Snake Goddess was going with everything. A group of spell tags of different colors: green, violet, blue and red formed a wall. Many of them started going for the three girls like if a mountain of spelltags was crumbling above them. Sakuya stopped time.

Sakuya: "You just did enter in my dimension. Time Sign: The World!"

Started placing knifes around Kanako at a great speed to make them stab her at any moment. When the time started again, they went for their target. Some of them did break colliding with spell tags but the other part landed on the goddess's chest. A faint painful moan would escape from her lips. The Maid tries to swiftly dodge the oppresive spell but it's hit at the last second. With some blood on her arms, she's trying to keep standing.

Sakuya: "Mistress... are you alright?"

Remilia was hit by the enemy spell, her body burns in pain since they were spelltags made to purify Youkai. However, night was falling and some Scarlet Mist appeared around her. Nitori tried to block them with her Cucumber Lightsaber but couldn't stop them all of inflicting some cuts on her arms.

Nitori: "What's this Mist? It has a heavy composition in blood... is she using our own blood to create it?"

The Vampire laughs while the Scarlet Mist envolves Gungnir.

Remilia: "That's right. At night, my power reaches its peak. If she keeps hurting us, that could feel like a double-edged blade for her."

Kanako: "What?!"

Remilia: "It's my turn, don't you think? I give you five second to run... hahahaha!"

Gungnir was acquiring an intense crimson aura and becoming bigger with every second while the Scarlet Mist was merging with the weapon. Remilia's face showed a psycho smile. Kanako prepares a tremendous barrier with her amulets.

Remilia: "It's late to apologize, "Goddess".  Night Sign: Spear the Gungnir!"

She's going to shoot her empowered weapon when sees something falling from Sky, it was a colossal monster who went out of some sort of dimensional breach. Burns with white holy flames. It was probably the beast who Keine, Mokou, Eiki and Komachi fought before coming out of its exile. Remilia's expression turned even more creepy when saw her main prey in front of her and redirected Gungnir to it.

Remilia: "My hunt trophy. Sakuya, prepare to begin the hunt!"

Nitori: "W-What's that monstruosity?!"

Kanako: "Curses, if it's not your doing... what does this mean?!"

Sakuya: "Do you see now what kind of incident is taking place? I don't like to team with you but we have no choice. Unless you want to see the shrine in shambles and probably anything that being want to devour after."

Kanako: "Whoever called for it, is going to pay!"

Nitori: "I'll bring the Mecha! Just... endure some minutes!"

Remilia: "The deal has changed, if we save your shrine, you'll come with us."

Kanako: "I was going to do it but not for you or Reimu."

The Adephagos roars when Gungnir thrusts it from one side to another. As a response it breaths holy fire. Zan Hakurei's voice can be heard.

Zan: "The phoenix and the Teacher fought it and gave my creature new powers using their spells against it. Blame them for your destruction."

Sakuya: "You have the culprit there. Mistress... I suggest to no attack it with spells. Is better to wait for Nitori since that Mecha doesn't seem to use Magic. I think we should defend."

Remilia: "Kanako, we need your Mountain of Faith here."

Kanako: "I don't accept your orders, Vampire."

Sakuya: "Is not a question of orders. If you don't cooperate we will die. You included! I'll slow it down as much as as possible. Time Sign: Killing Doll!"

Remilia: "Think for a moment at least in your temple. Don't be a fool."

The Maid stops the time surrounding the Adephagos and generates infinite knifes pointing its limbs to destroy them. It goes slower for several seconds and when it turns to normal, its legs are cut down.

Zan: "Adephagos, time to purify this place. Blazing Sign: Holy Fire!"

It opens the enormous mouth to release a gigantic white fire pillar that destroys Moriya Shrine and sets fire to the surrounding forest. Gungnir disappears and leaves a great bleeding hole. The shapeless creature starts regenerating. The vampire is gnashing teeth and Kanako seems in shock for seeing the Shrine blazing.

Remilia: "This thing seems like a nightmare. Hahaha... I'm at the edge of my strenght... Sakuya, how much stamina do you have?"

Sakuya: "I-I'll die at your side if it's necessary, Mistress. Evacuate and tell Meiling that I'm sorry if I don't make it."

Remilia: "Never. I'm not abandoning my best subordinate!"

Kanako: "I hope Nitori-Chan has the machine ready!... Suwako and Sanae are training outside, they won't come in time to help us! But if we shouldn't use spells..."

Remilia: "Let's bait it elsewhere and dodge anything that comes to us!"

The Vampire was using her last breath to produce a fearsome Scarlet Mist amount.

Kanako: "What are you up to?"

Remilia: "Your spell and my Scarlet Mist..."

Sakuya: "I'll assist you, Mistress."

Remilia, Sakuya & Kanako: "Last Word: Prison of Mist and Faith!"

Remilia's mist enveloped the creature, Sakuya stopped time and then Kanako made the amulets to fuse with the red fog in an impossible to penetrate shield. The three had to still channelling their part of the magic.

Kanako: "We won't... hold it for much time!"

Remilia: "You... trust Nitori, right?"

Kanako: "Yes... she never... fails to amaze me!"

Remilia: "Then shut up and... keep going until your body can't stand it amymore!"

Sakuya: "I never had to prolongue the time stasis so long... ugh! It's... being impossible to stop it further."

Suddenly, a familiar steel giant comes across the sky. It was the Mecha wielding a titanic Lightsaber Cucumber. Nitori was piloting it from inside.

Nitori: "I'm here girls! Come on, Monster Cucumber Mk.II!"

In some way, Nitori's spells were more based in science and technology than magic itself. In this case, it was even further. The monster was cut in many pieces and fled from this dimension opening another portal.

Zan: "That metallic thing... hahaha! Next time you won't have so much luck. Soon my true power will be ready!"

Nitori: "Oh, you aren't going away!"

The Kappa makes the Mecha shoot its punches. But the last strike misses narrowly.

Nitori: "Seems like the proyect is still incomplete. Need some recalibrations in punches. Like ten percent. Anyway... it's over at least for now."

The rest of girls sigh from relief while the engineer opens the cockpit and gets down.

Kanako: "My shrine is severely damaged..."

Nitori: "Leave it to me, I can rebuild it. You should just concentrate in helping them."

Remilia: "Definetively this Kappa would be a nice addiction to us."

Sakuya: "Honestly, I wouldn't mind if she ends coming with us."

Kanako: "I'm in debt with Nitori now for saving the day and so I will, but when the time comes."

Nitori was already making the blueprints, drawing them in the ground. When the Snake Goddess finally agreed she looks at the three showing a gentle smile.

Nitori: "Count me on, I wouldn't like to abandon Reimu on this. Now... if you excuse me, let's draw!"

Kanako: "I'll see how can I help. For now you two should go."

Sakuya: "Mission Accomplished."

Remilia: "Yes, but the creature escaped. I would say that we will see it again giving us trouble. Technology will be important in the years to come."

Sakuya: "We should leave it to the Kappa. For now I recommend heading back to home. You seem tired, Mistress."

Remilia: "You are tired too... and Sakuya, one thing."

Sakuya: "Yes?"

Remilia: "Never dare to talk about dying on me again. It's an order. I refuse to tell Meiling something like that."

The Maid showed a sincere smile for once since she tends to be serious all the time.

Sakuya: "I won't disobey you, promise."

Now, the required number of ex-incident culprits were convocated to unite Reimu for the Final Battle. Only the sages Kasen Ibaraki and Okina Matara were left to join. The Vampire and her Maid fly returning to home while the dawn breaks little by little. Now it was up to Ran Yakumo to find the missing piece of the puzzle.
