Ariza’s research was finally complete. The result was a single sphere shaped Item, filled with more magic circuits than Ariza had ever casted. She double checked the circuits one more time. All of her research was theoretical, so she had to make sure she got it right on the first try. She didn’t know what the consequences of possible failure were.
Deep Breaths. In. Out. In. Out.
She checked again. This was 56 years of work. She remembered every function, from soul transfer, ways to fool the system, vital security measures, to the most important, the experience transfer. It all goes right, this miracle invention of hers would teleport her 67 years into the past while allowing her to keep the grand majority of her experiences. At least, all of the experiences that would not get her immediately killed by the system for breaking fundamental laws of the universe. She pushed all of her mana into the Item.
“I swear to god, please don’t just malfunction…” she exasperated.
The Item vibrated as status messages were directly inlaid in her mind.
<Initialized… Transferred experiences… completed mind to soul conversion…>
The system’s voice rang out in her head. [unidentified Item has swapped thought processing organ from brain to soul] Good. While the thought processor switch was highly frowned upon because of its low success rate and the consequences of failing, the system didn’t treat it to be against its rules. This notice also confirmed that the system hadn’t realized that this Item would break its laws yet. The message alone increased the chance of her success.
<Starting soul transfer… Exchanging existence cost… Time remaining 1 sec till transfer…>
[causality law has been broken. Identifying cause… Unidentified item. Starting the weakest strike on unidentified Item.]
Ariza used a Item for this reason. If she casted it herself, the system would stop her from putting up any resistance to the system strike. It was a race. The system would attempt to repeatedly smash the Item while it was activated. 1 second would give the system time to strike it twice. If the Item could last 2 strikes without losing major functions, she would travel to the past.
[first strike…failed] lightning struck down on the Item making an obnoxious crashing bang. If Ariza’s soul was still in her body instead of being in the middle of a transfer, she would have died. [second strike... failed] The last thing Ariza remembered before unceremoniously passing out was transfer complete.
