Chapter 11: Waking up

Distant sounds of chiseling echo through my mind pulling me back from a deep sleep. With a soft groan I gaze up to see what's happening only to be instantly blinded. With a loud groan I squeeze my eyes shut and look down.

"Gotta keep your eyes closed silly"

Not recognizing the voice I turn my head to look up, only to startle when I get a poke against my forehead. "Whoa!"

A soft chuckle sounds before Danny speaks "Sorry, wanted to check how you'd respond. I highly prefer lifting you out comfortably, but not if that'd cost me an arm or worse"

Hearing his calm tone makes me realize his kindness from a few days ago wasn't just an act. A faint smile forms on my face while I look back up "That's okay, I'd rrrather you don't lose a limb eitherr"

Smiling he reaches down and grabs me under my arms before carefully lifting me out. "There, let's get you scanned"

After reaching the analysis room, he gently lies me down on the table making me realize I dozed off along the way. "Oh.. Did I doze?"

Chuckling softly he nods "You did, but don't worry. I'll start the scan in a moment but feel free to continue dozing"

Watching him walk to the control room, I yawn softly and close my eyes. "Question"

Turning around he smiles "Yes?"

"I got two actually, how is it that this time I'm still wearrring clothes? And who was that girrrl? She sounded differrrent"

Chuckling he turns back around and disappears in the room "She'll tell you"

Hearing the scan start, I relax my body and yawn again. "Who?"

My confusion causes a cute giggle to echo through the room "I'm Khloe, Zhloe's younger sister"

Taken aback by the gentle, melodious slightly coarse voice I'm unable to reply for some time.

[Whoa.. such a nice voice]

Forcing myself to reply, I can't help but stutter "N-Nice t-to meet y-you"

My helpless awkwardness causes both of them to chuckle which in turn makes me blush bright red.

Thankfully it remains silent until a few minutes later when the scan has finished "There the scan is finished and it all looks good. Let's get some food into you"

Excited by the thought of food I immediately sit up causing him to smile "You seem lively"

Mildly blushing I look down before yawning once more.

"Will you be able to walk?"

Sliding my legs off the table, I try to lift them only to shake my head when it costs me way too much energy to even twitch it "Don't think so, sorrry"

With the kind smile still on his face, he shakes his head "No problem, I'll carry you to the living room then"

Confused about his words, I raise an eyebrow and turn my head causing him to chuckle "Didn't I tell you I'd have something nice for you when you'd wake up?"

Still a bit unsure as to where he's aiming at I nod slowly.

"Zhloe arranged for you to get a chamber among ours. She told HQ it's for special care and they accepted because of your status, but truthfully it's just to make the adjustment process easier on you."

Once again having been shown that their kindness is truly real, a faint smile forms on my face. "Thank you"

Lifting me up, I rest my head against his shoulder. He's about to walk out of the room when Khloe makes a curious noise "Say Danny, you said they accepted because of her status. Is she like a princess or something?"

With yet another chuckle he shakes his head "No, no, nothing of the sorts as far as I'm aware. It's because of the importance head quarters puts on her case due to her perfect balance."

"Oh I see… also, could you please walk a little slower? I can't keep up"

Heartily laughing he turns his head and slows down "Sorry, I got a bit excited there"

Khloe sighs softly before giggling "It's okay, I'm just not as tall as you"

Suddenly realizing Danny is indeed incredibly tall, I open my eyes and curiously look up. "How can you be this tall actually?"

Smiling he continues to walk while explaining "That's because I'm a distant descendant of the ancient Legionnaires. In fact, I'm rather small for their standards, the average height used to be 2.8 meters"

Baffled a faint smile forms on my face "oh.."

Khloe immediately giggles again "Falling asleep?"

Yawning I nod slowly "A bit"

Chuckling Danny looks down before smiling "Just try and stay awake a bit longer, there's someone else who wants to say hello"

A couple of minutes later, it's exactly as Danny said. As soon as he opens the door and I look inside the presumed living room, Zhloe shoots up from her chair at the desk. "Leone!"

Happy to see her so excited I smile and slowly attempt to wave

"She's quite tired sis"

Zhloe wears a wide smile walking towards us and strokes me over my head softly squeezing my ear "Glad to have you back deary, I hope you didn't wake up a lot?"

Enjoying the attention, I close my eyes and slowly shake my head "Not until I was taken out"

Smiling she once again squeezes my ear "Good, do you have the energy for food?"

Thinking of food I feel a pleasant sensation in my body so I quickly nod "Think I do"

Zhloe's face instantly lights up and she quickly walks around the corner of the room. Meanwhile Danny sits me down in the corner of one of the two surprisingly soft cloth couches and smiles "There, just get comfortable"

Yawning widely I nod and relax my body yet I slowly begin to slide to my left only to fall over a moment later. With a soft giggle I yawn again.

Not long after, I see Zhloe's black and white cross-striped gray jeans and black ankle boots appear before me. "I.. I don't think food is going to make it"

Chuckling she places something on the black composite and glass coffee table before helping me sit up straight. After sitting down while making me lean against her, she grabs a glass of water from the table and holds it near my nose.

After taking a quick sniff I nod so she holds the glass against my lips. Feeling the refreshing sensation on my tongue I purr softly while rapidly drinking it all. Placing the glass back on the table she gives me a radiant smile "Had enough?"

Nodding causes her to smile wider "Now you're at least hydrated so the chances of a headache are minimal, now would you like to sleep in bed or he-"

Before she's able to finish her sentence I've already let myself fall over onto her lap where I yawn widely before purring softly and curling up, rapidly falling asleep.

Feeling a tiny fly on my nose, irritation quickly builds as I can't seem to ignore it, out of annoyance and most likely sleepiness I swat my hand towards the fly only for it to escape and me to slap myself awake. "OW!"

Sitting up I groan softly while rubbing my nose while Zhloe nearly falls of the couch from laughter "You okay?"

Yawning I slowly nod "Yeah.."

Looking around, I see I'm still inside the room dubbed 'the living room' yet I seem to have moved to a different couch. Sliding my legs off the couch I take a closer look at my surroundings. Zhloe is seated on the couch were I originally fell asleep at the opposite side of the coffee table. On my left is the door towards the hallway with a wardrobe against the wall together with some wicker baskets. Right across the hallway door stands a large and solid composite desk which looks like cherry wood. The seat behind it is currently empty so I have unobstructed sight through the large wall-sized windows behind it gazing at a snowy hillside covered in early morning darkness.

Quite some open floor separates the desk from the inlet where I believe is a kitchen of sorts. On my right before the inlet are four doors, one of which looks like a pantry. Looking back at Zhloe who's reading on a tablet, I turn my head "How long did I sleep?"

Smiling she lowers the tablet and looks at her smartwatch "Hmm, seeing it's about six in the morning.. about nine to ten hours"

With a soft sigh I rub my eyes before yawning. "This feels so strange"

Curious she looks up with a slight frown "What does?"

Remaining silent for a moment I hang my head "Aside frrom the fact I slept longerr than I have in the past yearrs and still feel tirred… Everything"

Her frown deepens so I reluctantly continue "It feels like yesterrday that I went to school like norrmal, got abducted during an invasion and then subjected to this trreatment."

With a deep sigh I rest my head in my hands while leaning on my knees. "Then afterr all that, I wake up to meet all of you. Incrredibly frriendly people nothing like the tyrrants that took me. Yet my body has changed, even my personality changed. I ended up maiming multiple people one of whom died from his wounds, get subdued and placed in that chamberr again. Now here I am on a couch in a living rroom.."

Gazing at her tablet, her lip twitches before she locks it and places it on the table. Standing up she walks towards me before taking a seat next to me and grabbing my hand with hers. "I can understand it must be confusing, and while I can't know exactly what you feel, I can only begin to imagine it. But if you wonder if it's an act… It truly isn't, the rules really have been changed after the Legatus was abdicated. As for what will happen to you in the future…"

Giving her a confused look because of her last sentence she quickly continues. "It still depends on your actual powers and strengths, but in the end you will most likely serve as a special agent. Just like the others here."
