Chapter 27: Unpleasant Futures

While Danny's eyes look like that of a dead fish, Felix covers Happy's mouth and laughs "How did you do that?"

Lowering the weapon I smile as I remember it all "During my acclimatization I shared memories with Leone. Through her memories she taught me how to summon weapons to my side. This sword… I recalled it from my remaining memories and even summoned it in a dream."

He laughs again "So while she taught you how to summon a weapon, your memories of the game caused you to think of that sword. And by showing your character you recalled the lesson?"

With a nod I hold up the weapon before slowly letting it fade from existence.

"Pfhaa... Thank god you put it away… seeing weapons are forbidden in these parts of the facility."

Gasping softly I turn red and gaze at Zhloe trying to think of words to justify myself. "I..."

Seeing my reaction Zhloe smiles and pats my head "You have to rest and eat something"

Softly giggling I look down "Okay"

Smiling wider she tickles my ear causing me to purr softly before I look up "So what will we do now?"

Standing up her smile widens "I will get you something to eat while we wait for Khloe, then we'll talk about what we found and what we'll do."

With a nod I stretch my arms and moan softly "Okay" Closing my eyes I lean against the backrest and smile faintly from the comfortable feeling.

"Say Leone?"

Opening my eyes I look at Happy "Hmm?"

Chuckling she motions to Felix "Mind helping him into your account?"

With a shrug I nod "Sure I don't mind, I can't even remember the game"

Baffled Felix turns pale "Y-You sure?!"

Nodding I smile "I mean… I don't have any way to access games right now, nor do I remember the game, nor my character. I can understand normally it's a big deal, but for me it isn't, if you want to use the account, it's yours"

Seeing Felix's awkwardness Danny laughs "What does interest me, how does Felix know your character?"

Looking from me to Felix, Happy chuckles "That is a good question"

Beaming Felix looks at the tablet "We both used a public server, the one that was sort of illegal, but not enough to be taken down"

Happy nods "I remember the issue being brought to court… but despite it allowing connections from outside the Legion, how did Leone play on it from an Alliance influenced city-state?"

With a chuckle Zhloe looks up "Hacked her way in probably"

Softly giggling I remember me hacking into this facility's server

"She's a hacker?"

Zhloe laughs "According to her act a while ago and the data we found on her devices, you could definitely say so."

Curious I turn my head "Data?"

Happy chuckles "Already forgot the sticks we recovered?"

"Oooh right! Was there any useful info on it?"

Danny nods "Quite a bit, hence Zhloe's decision to wait for Khloe"

"Okay, guess I'll wait" Meticulously grooming my wrist I use it to wash my ears causing Happy to smile.

Slightly embarrassed I stop making her giggle "It's okay dear, you can be yourself here"

With a faint blush on my cheeks I wash my wrist again before rubbing my eyes and doing the same for my other ear.

Seeing Zhloe stand before me, I look up.

"Here, a grilled chicken sandwich"

Eager I take the plate from her hands and sniff the sandwich, purring loudly before biting in and squealing from the flavor.

"Enjoy dear"

Happily nodding I purr louder as I focus on the taste of the chicken.

A while later the door to the living room opens and a loud squeal follows "Leone!" Khloe immediately dashes towards me, hugs me tight and rubs my head, giggling when I purr. "You're awake!"

Smiling I hug her back and nod "Yep"

Letting me go she smiles widely before taking off her imitation-fur lined coat and throwing it next to the desk together with her bag. "So how are you!"

Seeing her so excited I can't help but smile "Pretty good, just a bit curious"

A frown forms on her brow causing Felix to chuckle "She heard she's as strong as the Goddess Leone used to be, as did she summon a sword longer than she is."

Khloe gives me an incredibly excited look "Show me!"

Looking at Zhloe for permission she sighs "Just let it fade immediately afterwards"

Once again I try to stand up and smile when I seem to be able to keep my balance.

"You okay?"

With a nod I look up "Yeah, my body is responding again" Holding up my hand the golden glow once again appears while the sword takes shape.

Squealing Khloe hops on her toes "It's HUGE!"

Carefully I lower the blade and rest the tip on the ground, giggling as the haft extends beyond my head "Yeah… it's long"

Laughing she turns her head "Can I hold it?"

Zhloe shakes her head "Don't think that's a good idea, just looking at it, from all of us here only Felix would be able to hold it."

After letting it fade once more I smile while letting myself fall onto the couch "Yeah… it's heavy"

Felix laughs "Too heavy for you at this moment I suppose?"

"It definitely is, arms feel numb again"

When Khloe squirms herself between me and Zhloe, I giggle softly and smile when she pats my head.

Looking up at Zhloe I then turn my head "So what did you find?"

Happy laughs "She isn't impatient… nah"

Embarrassed I sigh softly before Zhloe nods "Long story short, there is enough information on your data sticks, phone and laptop to confirm our suspicions of the Alliance altering almost everything before supplying it to the neutral city-states."

Khloe frowns "History books and such?"

Danny nods "Yes, but news, media even songs and games are edited"

Zhloe gives me a worried, stern yet relieved expression. "It's so bad that if you had moved to the Alliance, you could have been executed for playing a game on the open server hosted from the Legion."

Instantly all color fades from my face "You're kidding?"

She shakes her head "No, if you wish I could let you read all reports, but that would take quite some time. There is of course a lot more information than just the confirmation of those suspicions, but a lot of that still has to be sorted and checked. And some is classified even for me and Danny."

Groaning I cover my face "So the entire world believes the Alliance to be saints and the Legion to be evil… while reality comes closer to the opposite."

Danny chuckles "The Legion is everything but saints, however…"

Frowning I look up towards him and seeing his conflicted expression I look back to Zhloe who looks equally conflicted.

She sighs "This is where it gets important for us."

When we nod Zhloe wants to continue when the door opens through which the Admiral enters. "Lieutenants at ease, I'll deliver the news."

Startled Zhloe looks up with some relief showing in her eyes "Admiral, how come you're here?"

Smiling she looks towards me giving me an odd feeling "I'll come to that in a moment. We, as Animus facility are ordered to stop our research on new patients completely and instead focus on increasing the strength and battle prowess of our current agents."

Khloe gasps and looks up in shock "You mean…?"

The Admiral shakes her head "No, it's not as grim as preparing for imminent war. However it is something similar."

Felix groans and rolls his eyes "Just say it already"

The admiral gives him a cold glance "Mind your words pup. As I was going to say, we are hereby put on active duty. Our mission is to let the world know about the reformed Legion."

Danny frowns "I have been wondering about that, wouldn't that cause confusion if the Legion still had its borders closed?"

The Admiral nods "Yes exactly. That's why the borders will be opened to every refugee starting on the first day of the seventh sacred moon."

Happy gasps "That's in less than a hundred and twenty days!"

The Admiral once again nods "Yes and starting on that same day we're ordered to leave and act as emissaries for the Legion."

Felix frowns "Yet we're to be prepared for battle?"

"Zhloe and I will be official emissaries, all of you are our entourage and protection."

Curious I look up "All of us? Or just the people in this room?"

A smile forms on her face "The latter, however in your case…"

"My case?"

Zhloe nods "Seeing you haven't had any social interaction with anyone outside of this facility in the past five years, you are to accompany Khloe to her school and for the time of three moons attend lessons as a regular student."

From shock I turn pale "W-What?!"

Khloe squeals whereas I'm close to panicking "I can't!"

Frowning the Admiral gives me a stern look "Yes you can, and you will."

With a deep groan I nod "Understood Ma'am"

Khloe pats my head and smiles "It'll be fun!"

Shaking my head I gaze at my knees "I'm just scared of hurting people"

Felix throws a coaster on my lap "Then let's spend the coming days learning the boundaries of you powers and to control them."

The Admiral smirks "Oh and Leone?"

Worried I look up "Yes…?"

She throws me a small card "Your new ID"

Looking at the card I gasp "L-L-Lieutenant s-second class?!"

Khloe immediately yanks the card out of my hands and pouts "You got promoted before I did!"

The Admiral chuckles "I decided to do so after spotting something interesting on the surveillance taps, a large… dark sword?"

Turning pale causes her to smile wider "Show it to me"

With a nod I raise my hand once again creating the sword in my hand. I offer the blade to her, yet she shakes her head. "I wouldn't be able to lift it."

"Ah… right…" Slowly I nod and place the sword on my lap causing it to lean on the armrest which protests under the weight causing her to chuckle. "Seeing what it does to the couch, I'm definitely sure I won't be able to lift it."

Felix stands up with a laugh "Now I want to know." He reaches for the haft and tries to lift the blade. Groaning heavily like an elderly grandpa he manages to lift it with both hands before quickly handing it back "And you hold that with one hand?!"

Curious I nod and frown "It's that heavy?"

He laughs "Yes, yes it is!"

Softly giggling I let the weapon fade after which the Admiral once again looks my way. "Leone, seeing you are a Lieutenant second class, you are permitted to carry a weapon through the facility. However hereby you are only to use it in the training hall, training fields or in emergencies. Understood?"

Hearing her serious tone, I reply with a stern nod "Yes Ma'am"

She smiles "Very well, prepare yourself this weekend, starting this Monday you will attend school."

Deeply sighing I nod "Yes Ma'am"
