Long, slender fingers slid over Su Huanyi’s suit fabric as Su Chi lowered his eyes and asked, “Right?”
Su Huanyi quickly seized the thread of life, “Yes, yes!”
“Which companion…” Nie Yihu’s gaze swept over Su Chi’s hand on Su Huanyi’s shoulder and moved back to Su Chi’s face with a raised eyebrow, “Is it Mr. Su?”
Su Chi looked at him without hesitation.
Nie Yihu smiled, “Mr. Su’s excuse is good. It’s the first time I’ve heard of someone bringing their brother to a party as a companion. ”
There was a moment of silence among the people present. Sun Yue’s eyes darted between the two, and Zhou Qingcheng’s heart was in his throat: Nonsense, that’s not just a brother! It is a “good brother”!
Su Huanyi felt the force of the hand on his shoulder get a little heavier, and he hurriedly spoke, “I’m a man of innovative spirit.”
Nie Yihu: “….”
Su Chi lowered his head and glanced at him, “Are you the voice of change?”
Su Huanyi explained, “I’m giving a guide for action.”
“You have quite a lot of guides.”
Sun Yue’s eyes moved faster, and Nie Yihu frowned… What was going on? I can’t interject or understand what these two are talking about.
They went back and forth for five or six rounds, and Nie Yihu, who felt deeply sidelined, finally couldn’t help taking a step forward and making an unwilling interjection.
“Little Yi, I just want to invite you to dance.”
Su Huanyi was in the middle of a fun dialogue when he was interrupted, and he forgot the words he was going to say in return.
Su Chi had a close victory, and he cast a glance at the annoyed Su Huanyi before turning to Nie Yihu and saying, “He has a companion. Is Mr. Nie suffering from selective amnesia?”
Nie Yihu: “A companion is not the same as a dance partner. Since little Yi doesn’t have one, why can’t I invite him?”
The atmosphere in the hall was sparking. Apart from Zhou Qingcheng and Su Yu, who knew the truth, the Sun siblings also felt a hint of strangeness: why did it feel like a confrontation between love rivals?
Su Huanyi’s gaze fell on Nie Yihu’s foot. He was thinking about whether he should use the excuse of “stepping on his foot” to get out of it when a hand suddenly appeared before his eyes, and Su Huanyi was stunned.
Su Chi’s hand was stretched out before Su Huanyi’s eyes while the other remained at his shoulder and it looked like he was half-embracing Su Huanyi in his arms.
The action was ambiguous, but the words were as serious as social rhetoric; “Would you like to dance with me?”
Su Huanyi’s heart suddenly thumped very fast.
Next to them, Sun Yue and Zhou Qingcheng’s hearts were also thumping fast. Sun Yue was teased while Zhou Qingcheng was scared-fuck, what an arrogant forbidden love!
Nie Yihu’s face sank. “Mr. Su, are you trying to go against me on purpose?”
Su Chi didn’t answer him, only lowering his head and focusing on Su Huanyi as he held out a hand and waited there. Then his hand sank slightly as Su Huanyi’s put his hand in it.
His bony fingers slowly closed, and their hands were clasped together.
Su Chi turned in the direction of the dance floor, “Let’s go.”
“Mmm.” Su Huanyi felt that his earlobes might be red as the eyes of several people around him swept over them. Their eyes were so blatant, yet secretive.
Just after taking two steps, a loud voice suddenly came from behind them, “Go?!”
The crowd gave a start at the same time. However, it was not Nie Yihu who spoke out, but Su Jianchen.
He finally found the time to ask a question, “Where are you going?”
The rest of the group: “…”
This abrupt turn of events washed away Nie Yihu’s frustration from his failed confession, and he looked at Su Jianchen in awe: what was this person doing stealing the show from him?
Su Jianchen, who had finished punching his card in today’s group activity, was pulled aside by Su Yu.
Su Huanyi followed Su Chi’s footsteps and continued to walk in the direction of the dance floor.
His striking looks and special identity attracted attention all the way to the dance floor, probably because they had never seen Su Chi act so intimately with anyone before. The voices around him gradually stopped, leaving only eye contact.
–The legendary, unattainable Su Chi, and the adopted son of the Su family?
Su Huanyi looked through the dozens of gazes in the hall, and he whispered, “Big brother, what do you think they’re all thinking?”
Su Chi also whispered back, “They are thinking that we are so well matched, but, unfortunately, we can only be brothers.”
Su Huanyi: “…”
He found that his big brother was quite good at seriously talking nonsense.
The two came to the center of the dance floor amid several whispers. A man and woman were dancing next to them, and the woman glanced at the two men as their steps turned.
A “fuck” rang out through the melodious music, and she almost stepped on her partner’s foot!
The pair simply stopped moving and retreated off the dance floor to watch the fantastic scene.
The others on the dance floor probably had the same idea, as, by the time Su Huanyi lifted his hand and put it on Su Chi’s shoulder, there was no one else on the dance floor but the two of them.
Su Chi wrapped his arm around the back of his waist and looked down at Su Huanyi, “Follow my steps.”
Su Huanyi tilted his head and looked deep into his eyes, “Then I might step on you.”
The symphony in the hall changed its tone abruptly, and the hand behind his waist retracted in one smooth motion-
Su Huanyi’s feet unconsciously stepped forward, and then followed Su Chi’s rhythm.
The crystal lights overhead glowed brightly, reflecting on the polished tiled floor, and their dance steps were like stepping on fine starlight. The matte black suits were particularly prominent in their intertwined and changing dance movements.
The scene around him was gradually reduced to the background. Su Huanyi raised his eyes in focus, leaving only Su Chi, whose eyes were warm and affectionate.
The dance ended and the echoes of the symphony dissipated in the middle of the dance floor.
The two stopped and remained in an embracing position for a few seconds, staring at each other. Su Huanyi had not yet come back to his senses and had almost forgotten about the surroundings. He was leaning over for a kiss when his hand was suddenly jerked.
Su Huanyi: “…”
Su Chi took him out of the dance floor and through the crowd of onlookers to the back of the hall.
It was only now that Su Huanyi heard the smallest of murmurs around him: “That’s Su Chi? Then next to him…”
“It’s his younger brother, the youngest of the Su family.”

“So they’re brothers. I thought they were lovers. That scared me.”
“But not real brothers, he’s adopted.”
“So what if he’s adopted? As long as they’re on the same family register, then they’re legally recognized brothers. ”
The hand on his shoulder suddenly tightened. Su Huanyi looked at Su Chi and could not see the expression under the latter’s long eyelashes.
They walked to the back of the hall, and Su Chi asked the waiter, “Where is the lounge?”
“It’s straight down the corridor, the third and fourth rooms.”
The corridor at the back of the venue was empty as the party had just started and hardly anyone came to the lounge.
Su Huanyi followed Su Chi through the corridor and entered the lounge. The door closed with a ‘click’ and his back was suddenly pressed against the door. Su Chi wrapped a hand around Su Huanyi and lowered his head to kiss him.
Su Huanyi had one hand in his grip and the other behind Su Chi’s shoulder – the same position they had when dancing.
‘So I was not the only one who wanted to kiss at the end of the dance,’ Su Huanyi thought in the gap of the airtight kiss.
The neat suit was wrinkled in the kiss, and the tie that had been made during the morning kiss came apart again during this kiss.
The temperature in the quiet lounge gradually rose, and it took a long time before Su Chi released Su Huanyi’s lips.
Their foreheads rested against each other as they calmed their breathing.
Su Huanyi was still panting slightly when Su Chi pulled away and rubbed his fingertips on his lips, “I’ll go out first, you stay inside for a while before coming out.”
“Why, big brother?”
“The look on your face is so easy to understand.” Su Chi’s gaze rested on his rosy lips; “People will know at a glance that I’ve kissed you hard.”
Click! The door to the lounge closed softly.
Su Chi straightened his clothes and walked back to the hall. He was almost there when the sound of voices from the hall faintly came into the corridor: “Those two brothers of the Su family are so good-looking. Do you think they will… ”
“You’re crazy. Those are two brothers, eh! They are in one household registry. What are you thinking?”
“Ugh, yes, that’s illegal.”
Su Chi paused in his footsteps, and the fingers resting on his side curled up.
Su Huanyi stayed in the lounge for twenty minutes before going out.
Su Chi was standing with the other two brothers. Sun Heyu and Zhou Qingcheng were not with them, and Nie Yihu was nowhere to be found.
He sighed with relief and jogged over to Su Chi’s side, “Big brother!”
Su Yu heard the call and turned around, “Little brother is well rested?”
Su Huanyi: “Yes…..”
He then looked at Su Chi but found that the latter had a tight frown, which was unlike his usual calm and collected appearance.
Su Huanyi felt a trace of surprise at the bottom of his heart: is it possible I sucked big brother’s yang energy dry?
This suspicion remained in his mind until the party was almost over.
Seeing that it was almost time, the Su brothers prepared to go back.
As they were leaving, Zhou Qingcheng stood at the door to see them off. Su Huanyi’s mind was full of his elder brother’s “yang energy” and he seemed distracted when he said goodbye to Zhou Qingcheng.
As the rest of the Su brothers got into the car, Zhou Qingcheng frowned and asked his buddy, “Hey, what are you thinking about?”
Su Huanyi mumbled, “My big brother’s yang energy.”
Zhou Qingcheng, “….”
Zhou Qingcheng, “?”
He was shocked. Was Su Huanyi some kind of demon?!
The two fell into an abnormal silence for the whole car ride home.
Su Yu leaned back on the seat and looked at Su Chi, who was stone-faced and at Su Huanyi, who was lost in thought and raised his eyebrows slightly.
There was a bump on his arm, and Su Jianchen asked him, “Third brother, I’m explaining that sci-fi film to you. Are you listening carefully?”
Su Yu withdrew his eyes with an “mm,” “Go on…”
“Oh, listen well then. I’m going to ask you questions later. ”
It was already afternoon when the brothers arrived home.
They were all a little tired after the party and went back inside to shower and lie back in bed.
The afternoon sun was bright and yellow. As soon as the balcony curtain was drawn, the light fell into the room, creating an atmosphere just right for sleeping.
Su Chi lay under the covers and closed his eyes. In the quietness of the bedroom, he gradually fell into a deep sleep.
He did not sleep well that afternoon, and he kept frowning in his dreams.
Forty minutes later, Su Chi suddenly opened his eyes; his eyes slowly focused on the ceiling above his head, and he got up after half a minute of silence.
He opened his bedroom door and kept walking until he reached the study on the third floor.
The heavy and rustic study was filled with books, and a very realistic globe was placed on the wooden desk.
Without looking away, Su Chi walked straight to the bookcase in the corner and pulled out the family’s household registry.
He had to see for himself.
The cover was opened and Su Chi solemnly flipped through each page. It was until the last page was turned that the stone hanging in his heart suddenly fell to the ground.
–Su Huanyi’s name was not there.
Su Chi breathed a sigh of relief. He closed the book and rubbed the smooth cover carefully.
The power of three men becoming a tiger was truly terrifying. He almost thought that the transfer of the household registry was an illusion.
***Three men becoming a tiger is a metaphor for a repeated rumour becoming a fact. ***For the first time in his 30 years, Su Chi had felt fear.
