When Qiao Mo woke up the next day, Harry was starting the fire again in the house. As the fire in the house had gone out after a night, he was worried that Qiao Mo would catch a cold while sleeping.
Before Qiao Mo arrived, Harry would never light a fire in his room when he slept by himself. But things were different now. He was a male with a family, and his female was too precious.
When Qiao Mo woke up and saw Harry’s actions, she felt warm inside.
This was the second day in the beastmen, but she’d been through so much in just one day. She sat up and asked Harry, “Is Charlie going to come after the wolf tribe? I mean… because we seemed to have offended him yesterday.”
When Harry saw Qiao Mo had woken up, his perfect lips curled into a smile. “You’ve woken up? Don’t worry, although we aren’t willing to go to war, we’ve never been afraid of war either. Although the wolf tribe isn’t willing to annex other tribes, we’re not that easy to deal with either. It’s winter now, so he won’t dare to mess with us recklessly.”
Seeing how calm and confident Harry was, Qiao Mo nodded.
At this moment, Harry suddenly walked to the side and grabbed a large white rabbit whose limbs were tied up. It looked like he was preparing to use it as food.
The rabbit screamed and struggled violently.
Qiao Mo immediately recognized the rabbit. “Wait, where did this rabbit come from?”
“It fell off my body after I transformed when I came back last night. I didn’t have time to take care of it then, but I’m surprised it didn’t run away. It’s perfect that I can grill it and nourish your body,” Harry said.
Qiao Mo jumped off the bed, snatched the rabbit from Harry’s hands, and hugged it in her arms. “I picked this up yesterday. I want to keep it and have it as my pet. Can I?”
Qiao Mo remembered that she had brought the rabbit into Charlie’s cave yesterday. After she was taken away to take a bath, the rabbit disappeared before she entered the water.
Had the rabbit crawled on top of Harry and was brought out together when he brought Qiao Mo out?
Qiao Mo hugged the rabbit lovingly and stroked it gently. “I feel that we are especially fated, so can you please let me raise it?”
Harry nodded. His eyes were filled with longing and fondness as he stared at Qiao Mo. “Looks like you’re really a young lady from a big clan. No females in the Myriad Beast Forest would keep pets. In their eyes, there is only food, friends, and enemies.”
Qiao Mo said, “Don’t keep calling me female. Let’s get to know each other again. My name is Qiao Mo.”
Harry was stunned. That was right, he had never asked for his female’s name.
“Qiao Mo…” He muttered softly and smiled again. “It’s a nice name.”
Qiao Mo then noticed a small mountain of hazelnuts piled up in the corner of the room.
Harry explained, “Those were sent by Elder Jessie yesterday as a thank you gift for saving her.”
Qiao Mo’s eyes lit up and she said to Harry, “Do you have an iron pot?”
Harry thought for a moment. “Only the clans in the Beast God City know how to forge iron. It’s hard to get iron pots… But I think I saw that Shaman Evan used an iron pot when he cooked herbs in his room. I’ll go and borrow it from him.”
He did not ask what Qiao Mo wanted to do with it.
After a while, Harry returned with a huge iron pot.
Qiao Mo asked Harry to set the iron pot in the yard and set up a fire under it. She then removed the leafy husks from the hazelnuts before throwing them into the pot. “Do you have a spatula? Something that can be used to stir them in the pot.”
Harry found a wooden plank for Qiao Mo.
“We can only use this. Make sure the fire is kept small, and keep stirring with this thing.” Qiao Mo sat to the side and peeled the leafy husks while letting Harry stir the hazelnuts.
Harry did as he was told. “This type of shell fruit is not delicious. Why are you cooking them? And don’t you need to add water?”
Qiao Mo pursed her lips and smiled. “There’s no need to add water. Just stir and heat it like this. However, it will take a little longer and the heat cannot be too strong. Also, you have to pay attention to stirring them constantly. You’ll know when they are done.”
Harry was puzzled.
After a while, a fragrance wafted out from the courtyard.
Aisha was passing by with a few of her mates. When she smelled something, she couldn’t help but walk into Harry’s courtyard. “Harry, what are you doing?”
As she spoke, Aisha had already come to the pot. “Why are you cooking these shell fruits? They’re so fragrant. Could it be that shell fruits can be used to make spices?”
The few mates beside Aisha all wore strange expressions on their faces.
Although this place was similar to a matriarchal society, it was not entirely the case. Males still advocated strength and whether one could be regarded as a qualified male depended on the number of prey he hunted as well as if he could provide for his partner over the winter.
Making spices, picking fruits, and sewing animal skins were all the work that should be done by females.
Even though Harry was the strongest and bravest male in the wolf tribe, he was actually working together with his female to make spices. Although spices could be exchanged for meager rations in the Beast God City, it was still far in comparison to hunting. Furthermore, it would also make the tribesmen look down on Harry..
