‘In this world, is there anything worse than becoming a beggar and being penniless?’
Yes, definitely there is. At the very least, the beggar brother can pick up one piece of clothing to cover his body. If you are lucky, you can search for the discarded food where the food still tastes delicious or you can take a broken basin or bowl with you and squat down on the side of the road, waiting for a kindhearted person to live up to its name.
Qin Fei looked down resentfully at the mini skirt made of animal skin on his own waist which could only cover the main part of his body. If he moved a little too much, then everything could be exposed. After days of eating nothing but salty roast meat, sticky and stinky broth, Qin Fei wanted his taste nerves to die. However, just now, another guy who didn't grow eyes gave him a stone bowl full of meat soup. Qin Fei gritted his teeth and was about to crush the bowl in his hand. The sticky and fishy smelling food in the bowl made him lose his appetite. Finally, Qin Fei let out a hysterical roar and threw the stone bowl into the waist-deep clear water river in front of him.
A large fish suddenly startled by the falling stone bowl, slapped its tail and threw water onto Qin Fei’s face before swimming away slowly and leisurely.
Qin Fei was thoroughly furious and vowed to fight the silly fish to the end. He vigorously jumped into the water but was chilled by the ice-cold river water. He shivered with cold again and again. He already couldn’t tell which fish had enraged him, yet he was unwilling to go ashore at this point. For some period of time, he played inside the water casually. The animal skin that only covered the important part chose to turn its back on such a foolish cute owner and floated on the surface of the water.
The Ruma priest looked at Qin Fei, who was flopping in the river. His ‘carved by years’ old face raised a rare smile. It was indeed good to have newcomers in the clan. The petite male Sa Lei had hunted back was more beautiful than all the females in the clan but he was too thin and slender. However, after seeing his energetic state at the moment, Ruma still had great confidence that this little guy who always flies into a rage, would get through the cold winter months safe and sound.
Ruma picked out a large purple fruit from the fruit that the clansmen had collected back. Slowly walking towards Qin Fei who was still flopping in the river, he placed the fruit on the shore as he sat down.
Qin Fei, tired of moving here and there, picked up the animal skin that was floating on the water and tied it back around his waist. He climbed up the bank slowly as he picked up the large purple fruit and sat beside Ruma nibbling on it in depression.
There was no way for Qin Fei not to be depressed, a modern man who had suddenly lost into the primitive era. Not to mention the ‘extremely extravagant’ daily life products of modern society, there was not even cloth or a loess room. He lived in a tent made of tree bark and animal skins and slept on a floor made of hay and fur. Bed that was classified as a ‘heavyweight luxury’ in the first place, simply fucking don’t exist.
He sighed heavily, it had been more than ten days since he had arrived at this tribe called Nata. Qin Fei understood that there was very little hope that he could return.
Initially, Qin Fei was already exhausted from suddenly falling into the strange jungle and struggling to survive in the wilderness without preparation. Later he ran into Sa Lei, though he was saved by him but he was also fed by Sa Lei continuously for two days, the fruit that could make people fall into a deep sleep.
Originally, Sa Lei had good intentions too. The jungle was dangerous, if it wasn’t for the lack of food in the season, they rarely went into such jungles to hunt. Even though this bold little female had taken the initiative to seek for a mate and had made no move to attack or run away. But it was better to be careful in such a dangerous jungle, in case the young female couldn’t stay still and attract a large beast, therefore he himself, the people from his tribe and the weak female could all be killed. To be on the safe side, he used the sleeping juice on the female on the way back to the clan. Much to Sa Lei’s regret, the weak female fell ill the day Qin Fei arrived at the clan.
It was thanks to Qin Fei’s good base condition too that he recovered after drinking two of Ruma’s special herbal medicines. Because of this, Sa Lei was relieved, since the disease had claimed many of the weak female’s life. He just didn’t expect that his little female turned out to be a little male.
Qin Fei pursed his lips, though he was really unwilling to accept the fact that this stinking old man kept claiming to be his saviour, however those two pastes of ‘bitter to the dead’ herb medicines indeed stimulate his body’s hidden potential. The day he was able to get out of bed and walk around, he refused to drink even one drop of that black and disgusting stuff.
Having finished eating the fruit in his hand, Qin Fei wiped his mouth with the back of his hand and reluctantly jumped into the river again. Being trapped in this wilderness gave him the impulse to expose all the deities or gods and beat them up furiously. Instead, he understood profoundly that it would be better to blame the irresponsible gods than to discard any of the stone tools. Stone tools were not considered a luxury here but in an era of extremely low productivity, it was very time-consuming and labour-intensive to polish, especially the relatively lightweight stone bowl.
There was a cheer from the shore and Qin Fei knew it was the males who had just returned from their hunting trip. Qin Fei remained searching for the stone bowl at the bottom of the river while his back turned in silence to the direction of the lively and noisy sound.
The language used by the tribe was not complicated. For someone like Qin Fei, who was extremely gifted in languages, he was able to understand 60 or 70% of the language in ten days or so, although he could not say that he had fully mastered it. Even if he could not pronounce some of the words as accurately as the people in the tribe, there was no obstacle to his hearing.
With Ruma’s meticulous explanation and Qin Fei’s deliberate questioning, he was able to gain some understanding of this continent.
The continent was very vast, it consisted of countless tribes. In the land where the Nata tribe lives, the seasons were somewhat similar to the country where Qin Fei used to live on Earth but there were also significant differences. The spring season lasted for about three months and followed by the summer season of about four months. The hottest time of the summer, the Polar Day month when there was only daytime and no night which means that summer here was actually five months long. After summer came the three months of autumn and after autumn was the four consecutive months of winter. During the coldest months of the winter, the Polar Night month which all tribes hate were the months when there was only night and no daytime. It was when hunger and cold were likely to take away the life of the weak females, the young man, the old and even some of the males who were not strong enough.
Thinking of the harsh winter that Ruma said would last for five months made Qin Fei’s legs feel weak. Relying on this small animal skin that could barely cover his embarrassment part, he would be blown to jerky before the winter even started.
