Chapter 1

Wen Chi opened his eyes and was greeted by layers of white curtains and bed frames made of sandalwood loomed behind the curtains.

He turned his head and in front of him was the antique bedroom.

Wen Chi was stunned for a moment until all the little sleep left in his mind dissipated. He couldn’t react — he fell asleep and he was still in this ghost place.

It was unfortunate to say that Wen Chi was originally a Beipiao1Beipiao or northern drifter refers to a group of people who come from other places to Beijing, the capital of the People’s Republic of China, to make a living, but do not have a Beijing hukou. Because such people rarely have a fixed residence in the early days of their arrival in Beijing, and they move around, giving people the feeling of being erratic, hence the name living in the twenty first century. After graduation, he stepped into the screenwriting industry. Unfortunately, his graduation time was short and had little experience so he had to work hard for others.

A while ago, his master took over the job of adapting a novel to a drama. The master was busy with work, so he asked him to read the original work of the drama and try to adapt it.

Wen Chi, who finally waited for this opportunity, naturally had to show full enthusiasm. So he spent two days and two nights reading the original work three times.

When he watched it for the third time, it was six o’clock in the morning and the sky outside the window was still light blue but it was twilight in the horizon.

Wen Chi’s mouth was dry, he stood up and stretched, then picked up the cup and prepared to go to the kitchen to get some water.

As a result, as soon as he took the second step, he felt dizzy.

It all happened so fast that he didn’t have time to react.

A second before the darkness completely fell, he heard the muffled sound of his head hitting the wall after he fell, accompanied by intense pain and he lost consciousness.

When he opened his eyes again, he had transmigrated into a book.

Into the danmei2BL novel that he read three times for two days and two nights

Wen Chi closed his eyes and collapsed like a salted fish for another half an hour, when he heard a creaking sound of the door being pushed open.

“Second Young Master, are you up yet?” The maid in the house came in with a water basin and lightly placed the water basin on the wooden frame in front of the bed, “Second Young Master, it’s time to get up for breakfast.”

Wen Chi didn’t move and asked: “Has my father left?”

Chen momo3Wet nurse replied:  “Master has gone to court.”

Wen Chi gave an expressionless oh, turned over and covered his face, sighing in despair: “What should come will still come.”

“Second Young Master, what are you talking about? The old slave doesn’t understand.” Chen momo was confused, “Is there someone who wants to come to the house as a guest?”

Wen Chi rolled over and got up, turning his head to look at Chen momo : “It’s nothing, you go and do your work.”

Chen momo felt weird, thinking that the second young master for the past two days was really weird, but thinking is one thing, she did not dare to say it out and quietly retreated.

Wen Chi dawdled and got out of bed. Ancient people’s clothes were complicated, with three layers inside and three layers outside. Wen Chi took a lot of effort to put them on and finally tied the belt crookedly.

After he finished washing, he walked out of the bedroom and saw the breakfast that Chen momo brought on the table – pancakes cut into small pieces and white porridge, as simple as yesterday morning.

After breakfast, Wen Chi had nothing to do, so he went back to bed with his clothes and rested.

Before long, he gradually fell asleep.

Don’t know how long he slept, but later Wen Chi was awakened by Chen momo.

He opened his sleepy eyes and saw Chen momo standing at the head of his bed, clasping her hands, looking a little worried.

 “Second Young Master.”

 “Huh?”

“Master has returned from the court.”

Wen Chi froze, the sleepiness in his eyes vanished without a trace in an instant and he sat up from the bed in a flash: “Father is looking for me?”

“ Yes.” Chen momo said, “Master wants you to go to the study.”

Wen Chi lived in Beiyuan, the most remote location in the mansion, which was also the courtyard where the original owner’s mother lived before she died.

The original owner’s mother was the only daughter of a small county magistrate before her death. She married the Minister of Rites, Wen Changqing as a concubine. Later, the small county magistrate was executed for the crime of embezzlement. The original owner’s mother was also implicated and no longer favored by Wen Changqing. Even when she suicided by hanging, she did not get a look from Wen Changqing.

The poor original owner grew up in an environment without a father or mother.  He was born out of a concubine and was not favored and trampled by the servants.

In the end it is not only his poor life experience, he is still a cannon fodder in the novel and he was born as a stepping stone for the protagonist…

Wen Chi thought of the ending of the original protagonist in the novel and suddenly had a headache.

According to the original owner’s memory, he walked through the winding path and took a stick of incense4half an hour before he came to the outside of Wen Changqing’s study.

He knocked on the door: “Father, were you looking for me?”

After he finished speaking, a steady voice came from inside: “Come in.”

Wen Chi pushed open the door, and the first person to see was Wen Changqing sitting behind the huge wooden table. This Minister of Rites is the same as the description in the novel – in his thirties, with a national face, upright facial features, and a 八 character mustache on his mouth, he looked like a serious person.

Wen Chi just glanced at him, then lowered his head quickly, walked to the wooden table and stood upright.

He stared at his toes in a daze.

“I heard that you were ill.”

Wen Changqing put down the book in his hand, frowned and looked at the second son whom he had not seen for a long time. With a little more concern in his cold words he asked, “Are you better?”

It was the original owner, not Wen Chi.

But that was a few days ago and the original owner had long since passed away.

Wen Chi said obediently: “I’m better, thank you for your concern.”

Wen Changqing nodded, as if recalling something, his serious expression gradually softened and he sighed, “I can’t believe that your mother has been gone for some years. Now, you are like your mother, whenever I look at your face, I can’t help but think of your mother.”

Wen Chi: “…”

The familiar opening line.

Here it comes, let’s start the plot.

He listened quietly.

Sure enough, at the next moment, Wen Changqing suddenly changed the subject: “It’s a pity that your mother left early and couldn’t witness your marriage.”

Marriage…

Wen Chi almost spit out a mouthful of old blood.

He continued to be silent.

Although he did not pick up the cue, it did not affect Wen Changqing to play their part: : “When you’re old enough to start a family. Father has found a marriage for you, go back and prepare for it.”

Wen Chi finally couldn’t hold back any longer and said: “Father, I do not want to get married yet.”

He remembered that the original owner said the same thing in the novel but Wen Changqing refused.

Wen Changqing’s eyes froze and the warmth that was hanging on his face just now disappeared in an instant: “Say it again.”

Wen Chi was very obedient and repeated it word for word: “Father, I don’t want to get married.”

Wen Changqing slapped the table before he finished speaking.

There was a snap.

Wen Chi trembled with fear.

Before Wen Chi could say anything, Wen Changqing became angry: “You bastard, your wings are hardened that you dare to resist your father’s words? Marriage is a major event; it is a matter of matchmaking and parents’ orders, not yours!”

Wen Changqing spat and scolded him. Wen Chi quickly calmed down. He remembered that a very critical plot was about to usher in the novel – now the entire court is worried about the locust plague in Jinzhou.

Maybe he can make a deal.

“Father, I…”

Before Wen Chi could say anything, Wen Changqing interrupted him in a huff and raised his finger to the door: “Roll out5Get out!”

Then Wen Chi obediently “rolled out”.

Although he did not want to “roll”, his legs were completely out of his control, as if he had been programmed in advance, he walked out of the study at a fast pace.

It was only when he was panting and walking back to the Beiyuan Court that the mysterious force that bound him to his legs suddenly disappeared.

Wen Chi’s face turned pale, he bent down and supported his knees with his hands, panting like a cow.

Seeing this, Chen momo in the room hurriedly greeted him: “Second Young Master, are you alright?”

“Something…” Wen Chi’s eyes were dull, “Something big has happened…”

Chen momo was frightened: “What happened?”

Wen Chi shook his head and after he recovered, he entered the room with a face full of despair.

Wen Chi kept walking back to the bedroom, took off his shoes and began to lie down on the bed like a salted fish again.

He thought about it over and over for a long time and finally thought that this matter might have something to do with the system the protagonist received.

The protagonist in the novel is named Wen Liang, who is Wen Chi’s half-brother, but Wen Liang’s mother, Xu, is Wen Changqing’s legitimate wife. So Wen Liang is also the first-born son of the Wen family and the entire family knows how Wen Changqing pampers Wen Liang.

Originally Wen Liang was the one who had a marriage contract with the Crown Prince.

But five years ago, a fire broke out in the East Palace, which not only burned a lot of people to death but also burned the Crown prince to such a degree that his legs were disabled.

Since then, the Xu family has tried every means to cancel the engagement.

The turning point of the story started two days ago. Wen Liang and his friends went out for an outing. They accidentally broke into an abandoned hut in the woods and picked up a colorful and strange stone.

That night, Wen Liang unintentionally triggered the system when he was checking the stone and he immediately expressed his wish to not marry the crown prince.

So the next day, news came out from the East Palace that the disabled Crown prince had tortured and killed many people in the past five years.

Originally, these news were suppressed extremely well but it was not known who had a heart to spread it out and it also passed into Wen Changqing’s ears.

Wen Changqing was so worried that he didn’t sleep all night. He was reluctant to give up his son and refused to give up the way to make a connection with the Crown prince. Coupled with the flood of tears from Madam Xu, he decided to replace the eldest son with the second son.

Wen Chi retraced the plot line of the novel and became more and more certain that all this was done by that stupid system.

Maybe that power just now was the mysterious power from the system.

How could he possibly fight against the system?

The more Wen Chi thought about it, the more desperate he became. He was so angry that he ate an extra bowl of rice for lunch.

The matter was a foregone conclusion, even Chen momo received orders to bring four or five maids to Beiyuan that afternoon to prepare a dowry for Wen Chi.

Perhaps because of Wen Chi’s contribution to the family, Wen Liang’s mother, Madam Xu has been unexpectedly good to Wen Chi these days. Not only does she not make things difficult for him but also sends the food that the original owner couldn’t eat at all like running water.

Wen Chi finished eating it all, it tasted good and it made him gain weight.

In a blink of an eye came the day before the marriage.

Chen momo and a few maids have packed their things – in fact, there are only two large and small wooden boxes.

Chen momo walked into the bedroom and saw that Wen Chi had just finished eating the rose cake sent by Madam Xu and was lying down to rest. She couldn’t help sighing, “Second Young Master, you will be married tomorrow.”

“…”

Wen Chi was originally relaxed but when he heard the words he became nervous.

He glanced from the corner of his eye as Chen momo walked up to the bed, step by step and she seemed to be holding something like a painting book in her hand.
