A long time ago, when the gods still meddle in the mortal's affair, lived a little lamb deep in the forest. It was said that the lamb was a direct descendant of the moon goddess. For her ash wool stood out among the rest.
Her bright and pure light garnered her enough followers. One of them was the sleuth of bears, now a Tarsa tribe. A tribe of half-human, half-bears. A blessed raced who could receive words from the said goddess.
Everything lived in peace until a certain son of another god was punished and turned into a beast. The beast, on the day of his reckoning, escaped and fled to the peaceful world of mortars. Vicious as he was, his arrival in the mortal realm only caused mayhem.
Hearing of the said lamb, the wolf went to search for her for a dreadful reason. He searched and searched, day in and out, but to no avail. Until one day, while he was drinking on a riverbank, he stopped at the sight of a lamb so white she was blinding.
The lamb glowed golden dust as if there was this faint spotlight following her everywhere. Noticing someone's gaze, the lamb raised her head at the gigantic wolf with the blood on his teeth still yet dry. But instead of running away, the lamb stood still as the wolf approached stealthily.
'Little lamb,' came out a deep, growling voice. 'I finally found you.'
The lamb didn't cower in the face of a monster. Instead, she replied in her soothing voice.
'You didn't. I did.'
Surprised at the calmness of the lamb, the wolf snorted. 'You were looking for me?'
'I was waiting for you, but the favored son doesn't know the way to find me. He gets lost every time his stomach growls much louder than his howls,' the lamb explained. 'You've been led astray.'
'Little lamb, if you know I am coming for you, then you must have understood my reason.' The wolf's mouth watered, but the lamb just gazed at him in pity.
'You came to devour me,' she answered, unfazed by the danger looming before her.
The wolf snickered and lurched forward with his mouth open while the lamb stood still. Just as his teeth were an inch before her neck, the wolf stopped by an unknown force.
'Dearest wolf.' She turned her little head to hold his pair of vicious eyes. 'You can devour me, I will let you. But not now.'
The lamb's eyes glinted with clarity and tranquility, moving away from his open mouth to walk away. Just as she was a meter away, she looked back.
'Once I had fulfilled my purpose, I will sacrifice myself to you.' She reassured, resuming in her careful gait. 'I promise.'
The wolf, who was finally closing its mouth, licked his terrifying canine. His eyes were on the lamb's back. He knew the lamb meant her promise. Hence, he followed her, keeping a respectful distance from her.
Since then, every time the lamb appears, a certain wolf was behind her. Wherever she goes, the wolf would be there. His merciless killings receded because following the lamb forced him to fast.
The lamb believed she was leading the wolf to the right path. That she was fulfilling her purpose; that was to change the wolf's vicious ways and gain his redemption. So once she offer herself to him, his answer would change. However, the wolf was cunning and clever. He knew what the little lamb was doing, showing her humankind and their peaceful life, the nature, the everyday miracle in this world.
That was why he played along.
Many years had passed, the lamb was slowly dropping her guard around the wolf. At this point, their relationship, after traveling across the world, developed and grew friendlier.
So the wolf came to her one day and asked;
'Lamb, if you so adore humans, why are you a lamb?'
The lamb, who was resting under the tree, gazed at the wolf in front of her. 'Dear wolf, how will you devour me if I am a nature since I adore it as well?'
'Ahh... nature.' The wolf looked around at the beautiful forest surrounding them.
'Don't do you like nature, dear wolf?'
The wolf remained silent. He wasn't particularly fond of it at first as he had seen it as a vicious world where the weak were meat and only the strong eat. But his time with the lamb, his opinion slightly changed. And that was the truth.
'I also adore a wolf, but you won't eat your own kind, would you?' the lamb watched the wolf rest his paws on top of each other, resting his chin on top of them, eyes on the lamb.
As he gazed at her in silence, the wolf spoke once again. 'Little lamb, I want to hear you laugh.' he demanded in his natural angry voice.
'Ha ha.'
'I want to see you laugh and smile, scream and cry!'
'I am smiling and I laughed.'
The wolf grunted. 'I can't see it,' he said in disappointment. 'When humans are happy, sad, or angry, I can see it in their face. But not you, lamb. I am angry.'
'The wolf is upset.'
'I am, lamb.' he scorned. 'The bears you favored were blessed to express themselves and have a voice. But only lamb can hear me and only I can hear lamb. And yet, I do not know when you are angry, sad, or happy. You sound the same.'
The lamb's eyes softened. His voice was angry, and he was obviously upset, but she knew he was being honest. The wolf had changed, she thought. Since she was the only one who could hear him and he was her companion, the lamb understood his displeasure.
Out of the goodness of her heart, she asked. 'Are you curious about what I look like, dear wolf?' This time, the angry wolf completely turned silent. 'But this is what I look like. We've been overseeing this world for so long, but I am not human, dear wolf.'
'The bears had their own faces when you gifted them,' he argued stubbornly. 'Lamb, I am tired of being a wolf. Aren't you exhausted? We can only see them from afar. If we approach them, they get terrified.'
'I am not exhausted, and they punished you to become a beast. Humans are always afraid of the unknown. It is part of their nature and it's not their fault.' She pointed out in the same calm voice, upsetting the wolf even more. But she was curious as well. What was her companion for years looked like?
Her eyes softened while staring at him as he stood up. 'I will run, lamb,' he said angrily and walked away.
But just as the wolf walked several feet away, his steps halted. Gazing down, his large, dreadful paws slowly took shape until they appeared as human hands. Shocked, the wolf looked at his massive body shrinking down a bit and slowly took on a human form.
"Lamb!" he called in a panic, looking back only to see a woman with long, lilac hair that reached the grass. Her back was facing him, her eyes on the town not far away from this mountain.
When she turned her head around, his eyes dilated, catching those beautiful pairs of amethyst eyes. Her beauty was ethereal; the most beautiful he had ever seen.
Her eyes softened as her thin lips curled up into a gentle smile, seeing his youthful face. She thought he would look older, but the wolf's human form looked like a young, beautiful man with golden eyes.
"Are you now happy, my dear wolf?" she asked warmly.
Hearing her voice in his ears and not just in his head brought a subtle smile to his lips. "Lamb."
And that... was the first sin the lamb had committed for the wolf.. Blessing the condemned wolf with the ability to take human form, which they now called werewolves.
