I moved my head in the door, seeing that Hugo put down the pillow that landed on his face. His expression was grim, unsmiling as he glanced at us. Hugo seemed he just returned as the tip of his hair was drenched with sweats, tossing the pillow back to Alice which the latter caught easily.
"Shut up, Alice. Did my Bambi even eat?"
"Are you dumb? Do you think we won't take care of her?" Cora slowly released her arms around us as she scrunched her nose up, gazing at Hugo in dismay. "Get out of here, you. It's girl's night only. I even left my husband..."
Cora trailed off when someone peeked his head in. The first thing I saw was his copper hair. I blinked, studying the man's face. He had this deep scar from his closed right eye across from his nose to the left side of his lips. My initial thought of seeing that scar was how painful it was when he inflicted that.
"My wife..." the man spoke in a low tone, a bit teary as he stood behind Hugo.
"Kyah~! My cute husband~!" Cora squealed as she instantly sprung up to her feet, skipping her steps before jumping into her husband's embrace. Did she say cute? I pressed my lips into a thin line. I wasn't saying her husband was ugly, but he looked far away from cute. He looked like someone who would tear a bear with his bare hands.
"Fuck. Get a room," Hugo mumbled, only to get smacked in the head by Cora.
"Shut up!" she ground her teeth, glaring daggers at Hugo. When she turned her head to face her husband, her face brightened up. "My husband, did you miss me already? I miss you~"
"My wife, will you not go home tonight?" her husband inquired with a frown, looking like a big puppy. I could see his invisible ears lowered as he sulk. He reminded me of Tito and how his personality contradicted his appearance. But by now, I somehow learned not to judge people by their appearance.
"Aw, my sweet Garrett~! I love you to the moon and back, but we want to stay with our new sister tonight!" her husband shifted his eyes in my direction and nodded. I smiled back in return, only to catch Hugo's frown.
"Hello, sister." Garrett, Cora's husband, greeted kindly before shifting his attention back to his wife. "It's alright. I understand, my wife. I will just miss you."
"Gosh... can you leave now? How can we gossip if you two are here?" Alice rolled her eyes as Cora and Garrett's public display of affection slightly annoyed her. "We still have many things to share with our new sister."
"Right." Cora finally let her husband go and frowned. "My husband, please don't cry yourself to sleep. I will surely write a letter to you about how much I love you. Just rest for tonight and don't let my brothers drag you with them, alright? They were all bad influences!"
Cora puckered her lips after reminding her husband as if they wouldn't see each other for a long time. I somehow felt bad that I was the reason she wouldn't return with him.
Just as Cora's lips were near her husband's, Hugo slid his palm in between them. So, her lips landed on his palm while Garrett's on the back of his hand.
"Come on, you two. How can you kiss right in front of everyone? I mean, Cora, my sister, stop molesting Garrett." Hugo commented in dismay, using heavy words that triggered his sister. Cora's expression died down instantly, setting her dead eyes back to him.
I swallowed a mouthful of saliva, sensing Cora started pulling an aura to Hugo. Even a human such as myself could feel the increasing tension between them.
"Sister Rinnie, don't worry." I snapped my eyes when Teresa leaned to my ear and whispered. "They won't fight since sister Alice and big brother Garrett are present."
I looked at Teresa, and she beamed at me with a bright smile. Her expression reassured me, so I nodded and smiled with my lips closed.
"Oy, Hugo, you punk. Do you have to court death?" asked Cora in a dead tone, not blinking as if she was about to lose her mind. But Hugo was unfazed as he raised his chin up.
"I told you to get a room, but you didn't and shamelessly displayed something despicable. If I didn't stop you, these children will get more curious about the mating season crap." He pointed in our direction, specifically Sally, Teresa, and Priscilla.
"Ahh... little brother, it seems the royal knights went easy on you again." Cora stretched her knuckles, but Garrett immediately came to her side to coax her.
"My wife, please calm down. Just stay here with our sisters. Hugo and I will..."
"My beloved husband, stay out of this." Cora bore her fangs as her eyes turned red, holding Hugo's gaze. "I'll teach this jerk a lesson..."
She trailed off when someone suddenly pulled the back of Hugo's collar as a wave of laughter followed. My brows furrowed as Daniel came into the scene with his usual bright smile.
"Hello, sisters." Daniel waved and smiled at us until his eyes squinted into slits. "I'll be borrowing Hugo and..." he trailed off, sprawling his hands towards Garrett's collar and grabbing it.
"... and Garrett. Cora, I know you miss your husband and brother, but resume your reunion later. Father is on his way here because he heard Hugo and Garrett were here even before the hunt ends. Have a good night."
Daniel didn't say anything anymore as he just dragged the two out of the room with his smile persisting. I caught Hugo and Garrett's shocked expressions as Daniel dragged them away just like that.
Silence.
All we could do was stare at the door for a moment where the three left. What did Daniel mean by that? I thought about it and remembered that Hugo said he would come back two hours later.. But it was just over an hour since then.
