This was just a hypothetical situation, but…

Imagine yourself choosing to leave your family for the sake of having a peaceful resolution at home.

Going on a journey of self-discovery, then coming back to meet them again with everything forgotten.

Everyone expects a happy ending.

No matter how strained a relationship might be, it takes just a bit of time to make them feel sweeter.

Remembering the good times together…

Now imagine that you never came back.

You knew you could fix everything if you just returned, but were trapped in a distant land.

What would you have done in a situation like that?

…..

….

..

.

"Adam…" My brother, as capable as he was, still felt the need to keep me close despite the situation.

So I stopped him there.

"I won't be gone for too long. Just focus on inheriting the company for now. When you're done with that, you'll see me again." I patted my older brother on the shoulder before turning around.

Jumping on the train with my belongings.

It was a simple case of an inheritance battle that neither of us wanted, but others tried messing up.

If I wanted him safe and sound, this was the only method. It was something I was really good at.

Cutting connections…

My brother might have felt pain, but I wasn't against new experiences and some time apart.

This was only temporary anyway.

A bright smile appeared on the surface of my expression while waving my parents goodbye.

My brother only stared at me as the doors of the train closed. Watching me get further away.

It had made me feel a little bad for him.

'This is only temporary…' I told myself that we could definitely make up when things calmed down a bit.

He just had to plant his feet firmly in the position of the new owner of the company. It wasn't really big.

He'd easily be able to pull that off. I'm certain.

Right now… It was better for me to make some preparations. Fill in the time while taking my seat.

A yawn escaped my mouth.

"Hey, let's…" I unconsciously spoke up, but then remembered my brother wasn't here to talk to.

There was no one to make small talk with.

My hand lowered back to my knee… I took out my phone to pretend that didn't happen just then.

Let's see… A novel to pass the time here.

'Ah… Has the next chapter come out yet?' I hurriedly searched up a guilty pleasure of mine.

A romance novel called 'Love Thy Shadow, Satan'.

As its name suggested, it was about a 'Shadow' of an individual… but it had nothing to do with myths.

The 'Satan' part was one of those titles given to people in young adult romances these days.

I was immersed in the text on my phone.

Reading the continuing story about a guy called Caden Ocelot Black, and a girl called 'Faith Ernest White'. Two werewolves from rival Clans that eventually find their lives being interconnected.

After the destruction of the Moonlight Pack that Faith was born in, a strange balance was built.

In the final moments of his life, her father used a forbidden technique to overpower the enemies that slaughtered most their members. He killed the Bloodlust Clan's leader and became its head.

Even if that was only for a short while…

Then he restricted the Bloodlust Clan's leader's son, the next heir that could replace him, using a Sacred Vow. Simply stating that Faith would be the next inheritor of their Clan after him and that the young boy, Caden, was to protect his daughter.

This was his last act before falling after the war.

With a unified leader, the Bloodlust Clan and Moonlight Pack merged into the Bloodmoon Clan.

Most of its members were formed with the outnumbering Bloodlust Clan, so the 'next heir' wasn't welcomed despite having escaped from a hunter's captivity and returning to take her throne.

Her status as an Alpha shocked the entire Clan.

I quite enjoyed this story mostly because Faith had her own journey to go through along with others.

After returning to find her family members were now being protected by the very men who killed her father, she felt really conflicted. So did Caden when he started to see her as merely a pawn.

Thinking her of being unworthy.

The secrets and unspoken feelings between the two made me anxious for when all is revealed.

When Caden would regret thinking of her as a sheltered lady, and Faith would overcome her grief.

Overcome the scars that mired her body.

"Hah…" I sighed after taking the new chapter in.

Imagining their future scenarios together felt nicer than wondering if my brother was alright or not.

Allowing me to take my mind off him for a while.

My eyelids became heavier as the moving train started to rock. Fatigue started to wash over.

Lulling me into the darkness.

Only… I could hear a crackling sound in the surrounding. Like a crisp packet being scrunched.

Ignoring it would've been easy… but the sound became louder and louder until it broke my ears.

Bursting my eardrums and shaking my soul.

A surge of pain flowed throughout my body as the whole world shattered, and I was struck off my feet. The seat I was on vanished, and I saw that there was a dark sky above my head afterwards.

A feeling of unfamiliarity ran through my body.

"Lil' Bro!" Someone who I didn't know, but sounded familiar spoke up. They ran up to me and held me.

I wasn't sure who this person was.

Or where I was…

This wasn't the train. I wasn't the same person of Earth, and this boy was definitely not my brother.

My heart sank in despair.

…..

….

..

.

Fenrir Ocelot had seen his sons as the apples of his eyes. They were the cutest cubs in existence.

But no matter how cute they were, werewolves of the Bloodlust Clan must have a level of strength.

Below a certain level only earned ire.

As the leader of the large Clan, he had done his best to distinguish and make a name for himself.

Being the reason for the Clan's prosperity.

Even in this age where supernatural existences like them were hunted by Humans, Fenrir hadn't cowered in any battle until now. Destroying and surviving to the point no one dared touch them.

Even so, he still had one anxiety.

Having a strong heir like Caden as his successor put him at ease, but he feared their rival Clan.

The dreadful Moonlight Pack…

It was just a rumour among werewolves that this smaller group had greater strength than a big Clan.

Exactly because his own Clan couldn't match them.

Each member of the Moonlight Pack member was individually stronger than any Bloodlust clansman.

How could he tolerate his pride being hurt at this point? The poisonous malice in his heart only grew.

One day, he would annihilate the Clan.

Create a stable political landscape among werewolves. Only so that his heir would thrive.

He planned to attack them by the end of the year and slaughter them. A mole was already placed.

One the dominos were set, he'd initiate the plan.

But not right now…

He put anything he had going at the moment on hold so all to spectate his second son's battle.

He developed a culture where any child of our Clan could use whatever method to show their worth.

Those awakened as an Alpha were rare, but those who were worthy as Betas were many in a crowd.

The top-ranked among them would become the right and left hand of the next Alpha upon ascent.

Thus, a fight breaking out was only natural.

Fenrir always visited the battles involving his own kids. He'd even give them pointers if necessary.

He focused his attention so he could do just that.

On one side was 'Adam Ocelot Black', the son of the Clan Alpha and talent recognised by many.

The kid had always been unusually smart and good at anything related to his body, which was then bolstered by the natural strength those who had inherited the name 'Black' tended to exhibit.

Although his strength was ordinary amongst their kind, having quick wits made him a deadly enemy.

While on the other side was Chela Dray Black, a regular Beta that shown promising abilities lately.

Fenrir focused to look at them closer.

He could tell Adam wasn't feeling well. That face didn't seem like one belonging to a natural fighter.

It was his only flaw.

'A pity…' He sighed.

As Adam's own father, he both hoped for his child to grow… and yet stay the same as he always was.

It was a complicated emotion…

As the Clan Alpha, Fenrir had done his best to contribute and improve their overall influence.

One could say he worshipped innate strength.

His personality was one that would normally leave incompetents behind at the first sign of failure.

However, this boy was his flesh and blood.

There was no way he could subject the ray of sunshine in his life to the brutality of the world.

He wanted his son to keep his smile.

'If only you were born somewhere else…' Fenrir felt his heart ache when seeing the boy slightly shiver.

"Why her…?" He asked the young boy merely a year older than Adam. The Clan's next Alpha.

"What do you mean?" Even though Caden was merely seven years old, he looked in his teens.

The same could be said for Adam too.

"They are matched up way too often." (Fenrir)

"I'm just giving my brother a chance to regain his pride. It's a shame to lose because of a mere skill difference, right?" Caden answered in a frigid tone towards his father. This was how they conversed.

They were more like business partners than father and son. It was the more 'normal' relationship between the future Alpha and current one, which was regardless of the close blood relations.

Only the two of them knew what they meant.

For a long while, the man alternated his gaze between Chela and Adam… His heart became cold.

"I forgot who we were." A low voice came out his mouth that had managed to grip Adam's attention.

The young boy turned to look at his family.

Fenrir gazed deeply at his heir with disappointed eyes, then got up to leave without turning back.

When the young boy, Adam, saw his father walking away, he quickly gulped some air and spoke out:

"D-Dad?" The young boy called out, but the man didn't turn back. He washed his hands of it all.

Knowing the result of this battle before it begun.

"Adam… Focus on your fight." Caden frowned while trying to get his brother to stop being so sensitive.

It wasn't admirable to be so weak-hearted.

The werewolves watching said nothing, but one could tell they were of the same opinion as him.

Adam ignored them all.

'Why…?' He looked at the vanishing figure of his father, then was forced turn and ready himself.

His expression was the worst…

The young boy looked at his opponent. Only to see that she was smiling annoyingly at this incident.

It caused a tug at his heart.

'Why do I always have to fight?' Adam thought.

A slight shiver was causing him to be unable to bring out his strength against this girl in particular.

His past trauma had resurfaced.

"Begin." At Caden's starting signal, Chela Dray Black immediately ran forward and clocked him.

Adam's distracted mindset was taken advantage of instantly. The girl's fist contained her intent to kill.

She didn't hold back whatsoever.

Even though he was the Alpha's son, Chela didn't care if her fist would cause some brain damage.

The front of Adam's face almost caved in while being flung away. His life flashed before his eyes.

'Why are we like this?' He remembered his father's smile and his brother's kindness not too long ago.

So why had they changed?

His body hit the floor with a loud thud…

"Adam!" Caden called out in shock.

Adam could see his life flashing before his eyes at that moment. Blood seeped from his forehead.

But then, a life he didn't recognise was also remembered. A big change happened within him.

'Adam Graham' opened his eyes at that moment.
