Kai honestly expected this man to be ruthless and impatient while he was teaching. It was beyond his expectations that Helix would actually answer his every question whenever he found something he couldn't understand. He would sneak in some rude responses from time to time but overall, the way this man teaches is even better than how the professors in his college do.

Truly, this man was born with too much talent.

So far, Kai could now read basic words in common language, it is much easier to learn as it was similar to English. The ancient language, however… Kai was stressed out. The sentence construction and grammar are so far from the common language, wasn't the latter derived from the ancient language? So why couldn't he find a similarity at all? Nevertheless, he was surprised by his own progress after a day of learning with Helix's guidance.

Although Helix's face was indifferent, he was also quite shocked by Kai's learning speed. Learning languages, two of them at the same time on top of that, always proved to be difficult. But Kai actually learned all the basic words of the common language in just a day. What a frightening learning speed.

Helix just stood up from his seat when he heard an awkward rumbling from someone's stomach. It was only him and Kai in the library.

So he turned his head at the man with an embarrassed expression with a blank look on his face. They didn't eat any lunch or dinner but because of his dedicated concentration, the hunger was forgotten, and only when they finished did his desire for food come out.

… Very well. Since you were working hard, I'll reward you.

Helix turned away and left the library without uttering a word. Kai could only shyly put back the books on the shelves before hurrying out as well. He didn't know where the other went so he could only wander around the large castle on his own and search for Helix. Meanwhile, he could only busy his mind with his thoughts as he walked around with hunger.

Today, he has pretty much completed his learning about the common language. His study of ancient language might take a while but since he got a gist of it already, it will be easier to learn in the future. But there are simply too many things he doesn't understand and is unaware of. For example, magic and concocting magic pills. Learning those things will be highly convenient for practical use. Of course, things like these are also one of the reasons why he was hooked on the story, despite it not being his type of genre.

In this world, magic has many kinds of classifications. The lowest and the easiest ones are the first-level classification magics, and the highest and hardest to use are the tenth-level classification magics. In this continent, there are only two well-known people that can cast tenth-level classification magics. The two obviously are the Dark Mage, Helix Vernon and the other being the Great Sage.

Learning is quite fun, as long as you understand how it works. It pretty much applies to mathematics as well, honestly.

Kai's movements came to a stop when a mouthwatering smell wafted towards his nose. This only caused his stomach, void of food, to beg even more for delicacies. In this castle, there's only him and the famed dark mage. So Kai didn't hesitate to run towards the kitchen with desperation and excitement.

How could someone be so talented?! The world hates this man but the gods really love him, doesn't he?

He busted inside the kitchen only to see a back covered with long, ink-black hair. It seems that while Kai was tidying up the library, Helix went to change his clothes into his comfortable black robes and went to the kitchen to cook. Helix didn't even spare a single glance at Kai and simply continued stirring the pan. But he spoke up at least, "There's some bread on the table. If you're too hungry, then make do with that for now until I finish."

'Who is this man? Where was the rude mage I met before, who even barged into the castle and acted like the master?'

Kai blankly sat on the chair, watching the man's every movement in a daze. His every move was filled with grace and elegance. Kai could clearly see the nobility exuding from him. At the same time, the beauty and masculinity intermixed and turned into something quite alluring in Kai's eyes. Such a beautiful sight, was he allowed to see something like this?

The smell of whatever food Helix is cooking forbids Kai to eat a single piece of bread to appease his hunger. How could he eat something else when he was about to eat something much tastier?

So Kai could only sit in silence, watching over Helix's every movement.

At the same time, he could see this white, soft snow falling from the windows. It was dark as an abyss outside but because of the light from the kitchen leaking outside the windows, he could faintly see the cold snow. Ah, it really is winter right now.

In a few months, when the flowers bloom and the leaves grow, Kai will have to head to the capital. After that, it seems that he wouldn't have a peaceful moment like this for a while. He doesn't know what Helix is going to do, but he'll try his best to not involve himself in the plot anymore. He'll throw away his role as the male lead and live a secluded life here until he finds a way to go back home. Who knows, if this person is willing then he'll welcome this abandoned mage in his castle as he has always done and live with him?

While looking at the man he is thinking about, Kai's lips subconsciously curled upwards.

It was not a bad idea.

Helix Vernon is a good person, he had observed it while he was spending this short amount of time with him. He might be still hiding his true personality but Kai could leave it to the judgment of his future self. Moreover, good or evil, as long as he is good to him and those who are around him, Kai has no qualms. His sense of morality is not as good as the original Kai Zein after all.

After a while of waiting, finally, Helix was done cooking. He placed the dishes one by one on the table before he went back to the sink to wash his hands and take out two plates and two pairs of utensils as well. Being served by this person, Kai really, really found it weird. But he gladly received it and muttered a few words of gratitude.

It was just simple dishes, beef stew, soup dumplings, and rice, enough for the two of them. The smell is already enough to raise his hunger, what about the fact that it was in front of him? Kai couldn't hold back himself and immediately served himself the food, scarfing down food with his unheld-back hunger.

This is simply too delicious! Even the food he ate in a 5-Star Michelin restaurant when he graduated from high school couldn't be compared to this! This man is too perfect! How could people hate him?!

Helix watched the person in front of him eat the food he cooked with so much enthusiasm and felt strange in his heart. He frowned slightly and finally scolded him, "Do you want to choke? Nobody will steal the food from you, eating like that is so unsightly." What happened to the calm and dignified person he was teaching earlier? He watched as Kai finally slowed down eating and sighed as he started to eat as well.

Seriously… was it so delicious?

Since he frequently travels and good chefs are not always available, he decided to do it himself to provide himself with better food. This is not the first time he fed Kai with his cooking but this is the first time after Kai lost his memories. Before, his reaction was also the same as this, scarfing down his food with no elegance as a Duke at all. Because of this, Helix didn't know why but he was a bit embarrassed despite his cold and indifferent outward appearance.

Kai is the only person he has fed with his food.

Suddenly, he heard the other person's mumblings. "You're so good at magic… A patient teacher, a kind person, so smart, you're also so good at cooking…" Helix lifted his gaze and found the other person looking at him with so much admiration and high regard.

"You're really a great person, Helix." Kai beamed a bright smile, there was still a single grain of rice in the corner of his lips as he spoke.

But Helix's response was not what Kai had expected. He suddenly slammed both hands on the table and rose from his seat. Kai couldn't get a glimpse of his expression since it was covered by his bangs however he saw the frown on his lips. And then, without even finishing the food from his plate, Helix stormed out of the kitchen, leaving Kai with disappointment and confusion.

Kai thought back and mumbled, "Did I do or say anything wrong…?" He wiped the corner of his lips with his thumb and licked the rice as he stared at the door where Helix exited.
