Until now, the most depressing moment in his life was the moment he heard of the engagement between Song Yu and Qi Chengji.
The moment he suffered most was the moment he decided to confess to her that night.
On the other hand, they were the five happiest and most emotional moments in his life.
First, when the time came and he was reunited with Song Yu.
Second, when he became Song Yu’s sweetheart.
Third, when Song Yu accepted his proposal.
Fourth, when Song Yu asked to go for marriage registration.
Fifth, when he saw Song Yu walk to him gracefully during the wedding ceremony.
“The other day, Jian Yi came to me, and he approached me with some evidence. He told me it was you who bankrupted the Song Family,” said Song Yu. She saw Qi Chengzhi’s face turn blue, so she touched his palm with hers and slid her fingers through the spaces between his fingers, and she held his hand in hers.
“Right after I heard this, I was incredibly confused. I didn’t know if I could face you. I love you so much, I didn’t know what my life would become if I left you, and I didn’t know how to handle our relationship. At that moment in time, my love for you was deep enough to make me unable to live without you. I couldn’t bring myself to hate you, but when I thought of my parents, I was conflicted as to what I should do. And so naturally, my first reaction was to return home and search for evidence.”
Song Yu glanced towards the documents laid across the table. “When I came back, I immediately went to your study room where I found a diary in your drawer. After reading it, I wasn’t conflicted anymore. I made a quick decision to pretend as if I did not discover anything. However, I did try to open the safe.”
Song Yu smiled for a while. “I didn’t expect the password to be my birthday. Couldn’t you think of something more complex? It was too predictable. After scanning through the documents, I knew what Jian Yi told me was the truth, so I put the documents back inside. I tore the documents Jian Yi gave me into pieces and flushed them down the toilet, then acted as if nothing had happened. However, I was afraid there might be some unforeseen events or accidents. That’s the reason I was anxious to marry you and officiate our relationship.”
“Mu Sisi came looking for me today. She told me that she blackmailed you with that information, but you would rather confess to me and refuse to be blackmailed by her.” Song Yu’s smile was becoming gentler, she looked at Qi Chengzhi, her gaze was full of love. “Today after work, your body smelt of cigarettes, and I knew the exact reason you started smoking again. Sorry, I should have told you earlier. I reckon you were pretty down today, right?”
Qi Chengzhi stared deeply into her eyes. She always said that she was blessed with luck because he loved her so much. Though, he had always felt that he was the lucky one.
After he committed such a horrible act, she could still forgive him and love him as before.
He pulled Song Yu into his arms and hugged her tightly. “I promise you, I’ll never do anything that will disappoint you ever again.”
“I know that.” Song Yu smiled and her arms wrapped around his body. She embraced him tightly and sniffled. Then, she said with a muffled voice, “It’s been quite a while since I last smelt cigarettes on your body. This smell is stronger than the one you had when you used to smoke regularly. How many sticks you have smoked today?”
“…” Qi Chengzhi paused for a few seconds before he said, “I’ll never smoke again.”
Song Yu liked the way he looked when smoking, in fact, but she restrained herself for telling him because she was afraid that he might start smoking again if she did so.
In spite of his attractive appearance when he smoked, she would prefer for him to live healthily.
Qi Chengzhi was sniffing the fragrance of her hair, he buried his head into her hair and started kissing her neck softly through the gaps between her hair. He kissed along the elegant contour of her neck and reached her earlobe, ear auricle, cheeks, and finally her lips.
The kiss was different from the kiss in the car which was full of despair and felt like the last kiss of his life. This time, it felt as if it was revigorated with new life. His kiss was full of passion and allure, and it had slowly become more sensual as time passes, from a gentle kiss it evolved into a firey one, his tongue moved, stirred, and swirled without restraint in her mouth.
He held her tightly as if he was wrapping her with his arms to tempt her, protect her, and to cherish her.
Subconsciously, he was pressing Song Yu down on the sofa.
Qi Chengzhi loosened his kiss a little and slowly pulled away, then he stuck his lips onto hers and pressed them on her lips intermittently.
“I’ll go wash off the smell of cigarettes,” said Qi Chengzhi hoarsely. His lips were pressed against hers and his voice was full of appreciation and gratitude. He was grateful that Song Yu exists and that he fell in love with such a perfect woman.
However, Song Yu shook her head, her lips rubbed his. She enwrapped him tightly with both her arms. “Hug me for a while more.”
Qi Chengzhi held her neck with one hand and caressed her waist with the other, then he let her lay on her side so that he would not exert too much pressure on her stomach. The two of them were squeezing into the narrow sofa.
Song Yu lay on her chest at ease and narrowed her eyes. Her hand was also placed on his chest. “I promised you before, I would always be there for you for my whole life. What are you scared of?”
He hugged her waist tighter, she did not hear a reply from him. His lips stuck onto her lips again.
Knock! Knock! Knock!
Aunt Yang knocked on the bedroom door. “Sir, madam, there is a lady who keeps on pressing the doorbell downstairs, and she’s shouting your name.”
Song Yu sighed. “It must be Mu Sisi.”
“Just ignore her.” Qi Chengzhi usually had a cool voice when speaking to others, but his voice was full of distaste after hearing those three words.
“Let’s have a look, we can’t let her continue to press our doorbell,” said Song Yu as she replied irritatedly. She was lying there having a good time with Qi Chengzhi, why did Mu Sisi have to disturb them.
They opened up to each other that night and had opened up about all the things that were eating them up inside. They were already extremely comfortable and it had become a peaceful moment. They were relaxed. Why did Mu Sisi have to come looking for them now?
“You really want to have a look?” Qi Chengzhi raised his eyebrow. He genuinely wished he could leave her alone outside.
“We’re not letting her in, let’s just find out what she was shouting about and get Mu Huaisheng to bring her back.” Song Yu sat up and tidied her hair.
Qi Chengzhi followed and stared at her longingly.
“What are you staring at?” Song Yu stopped her movement and blushed.
“I’m looking at you; who seems to be becoming increasingly evil as time passes,” said Qi Chengzhi with a faint smile.
“if you lie down with dogs, you’ll leave with fleas!” Song Yu pouted and raised her eyebrow and looked at him provocatively.
Qi Chengzhi laughed softly and held her face in his hands, then he pecked it lovingly.
“Aunt Yang is still waiting outside,” said Song Yu.
Qi Chengzhi helped comb her hair for a while, then they opened the door.
Aunt Yang waited just outside the door, Song Yu felt embarrassed and quickly looked away before walking downstairs.
Qi Chengzhi held Song Yu’s hand tight, he did not want to let go of her even for a moment. He felt very touched by the things that happened that night, if Mu Sisi did not disturb them, they would be lying down together, looking fondly into each other’s eyes.
However, first they had to face Mu Sisi, Qi Chengzhi unconsciously held Song Yu’s hand tighter.
He was distressed from being so nervous and restless earlier. He wished he would never have to experience it again in his life. He faced the possibility of almost losing Song Yu, and still had some lingering fear. He was worried that Song Yu that seeing Mu Sisi would ruin her mood and change her mind.

They went downstairs and reached the porch. The video intercom system attached to the wall was on and Mu Sisi’s face could be seen on the screen. The fringe of her hair was combed at an angle so as to cover the wound on her forehead. Her face cheeks were wet with tears trickling down.
“Brother Chengzhi, why do you refuse to see me? I’m so depressed now and I’m sick. Brother Chengzhi, please let me in. My brother doesn’t want me around, he doesn’t care about me anymore. I didn’t know who else to go to, I came to you for help. I’m a homeless person now, Brother Chengzhi,” said Mu Sisi while sobbing.
“He doesn’t want me anymore, I’m injured and he left me on the side of the road. He didn’t even bother calling to show his concern,” said Mu Sisi. The intercom transmitted the sound of her knocking on the door of the unit downstairs. “Brother Chengzhi, I’m genuinely sick now, it’s true, it was so cold outside. I’m freezing, please let me in, please let me see you, I’m begging you. If you push me away, I really don’t have anywhere else to go, Brother Chengzhi.”
Song Yu snorted softly, Qi Chengzhi immediately dragged her into his arms. “You wanted to come down and have a look, and now you’re angry.”
“Make her leave, how could I not be angry?” Song Yu pointed at the screen, “But if I didn’t come down and have a look, I would be curious. Besides, we shouldn’t let her continue pressing our doorbell, so annoying!”
“Brother Chengzhi, aren’t you concerned about me after seeing me like this?” Brother Chengzhi…” Mu Sisi was swaying her head right and left in front of the camera like a drunken lady.
Qi Chengzhi promptly took his cell phone out from his pocket and called Mu Huaisheng. “She’s in front of my house now, come and fetch her.”
The moment he finished his sentence, he hung up the phone.
“Let’s go back upstairs,” said Qi Chengzhi, then he turned around and said to Aunt Yang, “After a while, Mu Huaisheng will come and pick her around to pick her up, if she presses the doorbell again just ignore her. When Mu Huaisheng arrives, don’t open the door for them, just let him take Mu Sisi away immediately.”
“Okay,” replied Aunt Yang. “So shall I return to my room to sleep?”
Qi Chengzhi smiled, Aunt Yang has worked for the family for so many years and he genuinely like Aunt Yang’s ability to infer and carry out his instructions.
…
…
Mu Sisi did not stop pressing the doorbell, but nobody was bothered by her. She began feeling colder and colder, and her mind was getting fuzzier. Her body started to shiver and her vision became a blur.
She mustered the remainder of her energy to raise her hand to continue pressing on Qi Chengzhi’s doorbell, but her finger slid down before she could touch the button. Her body slid down against the wall. Her eyes shut as she fainted, her head rested against the wall as she drifted into unconsciousness.
After twenty minutes, Mu Huaisheng’s BMW Seven Series was moving towards the unit with its headlights shining onto the entrance of Qi Chengzhi’s unit, as he got closer the lights shone on Mu Sisi’s unconscious body lying on the porch of the building.
Mu Huaisheng braked his car and rushed out hastily to Mu Sisi’s side. He squatted and gently patted Mu Sisi’s face. “Sisi! Sisi!”
He touched Mu Sisi’s forehead and it was blistering hot. He took out his phone and switched on the flashlight, then he saw Mu Sisi’s face was extremely red from the blood rushing to her cheeks.
Mu Huaisheng hurriedly carried Mu Sisi into the car.
…
…
The following day, Mu Sisi opened her eyes and felt groggy. She had a mind-splitting headache, not because of the wound, but due to the throbbing pulsations in her head.
She lifted her arm to massage her head, then she felt a prickling needle-like sensation at the back of her hand which was immensely painful, causing her to almost cry. Then, she found that there was a needle at the back of her hand connected to a drip.
She then raised her right arm to touch around her forehead, and she felt a bandage on it. The wound hurt even at the gentlest touch.
Mu Sisi finally realized that she was in the ward of a hospital.
“Anyone around? Somebody come here! Where is everyone?” shouted Mu Sisi, but she could feel her sore throat when she shouted. Her mouth was dry and she was dehydrated.
“You’re awake.” Mu Huaisheng’s voice could be heard, and Mu Sisi saw him carrying a bag full of things into the ward.
He walked to her bedside and placed the bag on the bedside cabinet, Mu Sisi could smell the aroma of porridge.
“How did I end up here?” Mu Sisi tried to support herself and get up, but her whole body was aching and she could not exert any energy.
Mu Huaisheng adjusted the bed to sit her up and took a cotton swab and a bottle of mineral water from the bedside cabinet. He wet the cotton swab with some water and used it to moisten Mu Sisi’s lips. Then, he proceeded to insert a thin straw into a bottle so she could drink easily. “Drink slowly.”
Mu Sisi grabbed the bottle, she was tremendously thirsty, but the straw was thin enough so no matter how hard she sucked, she could only drink in small doses.
“Last night you went to find Qi Chengzhi, but they refused to open the door for you. He called me and asked me to take you home but when I reached, you had already fainted at the doorway of his house,” said Mu Huaisheng, “You had a high fever and your face was red, so I brought you to this hospital as quickly as I could.”
Mu Sisi recalled that Mu Huaisheng left her on the roadside yesterday, then she took a taxi back to Chengshi where she parked her car.
As she was driving, she did not want to go home and cried whenever she looked at the wound on her forehead. She felt that fate was extremely cruel to her.
Even after the sky turned dark, she still refused to go home and face Mu Huaisheng. After thinking for quite some time, she could not resist and went looking for Qi Chengzhi.
She was so devastated, even if Qi Chengzhi dislike her, wouldn’t he sympathize with her a little?
Unexpectedly, Qi Chengzhi still refused to let her in and cared not whether she was dead or alive. He most probably would not feel even a tinge of guilt or remorse she froze to death outside.
“The doctor said that this fever was caused by the infection of your wound,” said Mu Huaisheng with a deep voice. “Yesterday you didn’t allow the nurse to help disinfect and bandage your wound. Besides, there’s bacteria on your hair and your environment is also contaminated with bacteria. All these factors caused your infection. You better mentally prepare yourself, your wound has become much worse since yesterday. Even when the wound heals, the scar will be more serious than before.”
As soon as she heard this, Mu Sisi immediately said, “Mirror, give me a mirror.”
“You still have time to be concerned about your face now?” said Mu Huaisheng sternly.
“I want my mirror!” Mu Sisi saw there was a mirror hanging on the wall opposite her bed, and she wanted to remove the needle in her hand to reach it.
Mu Huaisheng quickly pushed her back into the bed. “Don’t simply move around. That was the only clock in this ward, I’ll get a smaller one for you, wait for me.”
Mu Sisi finally calmed down and stopped acting wildly.
Mu Huaisheng exhaled heavily and glanced at her worriedly, then he left the ward.
Right after Mu Huaisheng left, Mu Sisi pulled out the needle at the back of her hand. She walked with an unsteady gait toward the mirror. She supported herself with her arm pressed against the wall, and she lifted the bandage covering her wound.
Mu Huaisheng borrowed a mirror from a nurse. When he reached the door of the ward, he could hear the sound of things being smashed into pieces. He heard Mu Sisi shouting, “My face! Argh!”
Mu Huaisheng rushed into the ward and saw Mu Sisi had smashed all the things that could be destroyed. It was a mess.
She had removed the bandage on her forehead and revealed the horribly inflamed wound, the wound appeared larger than it did the previous night when it was freshly sutured, and it was secreting pus and ulcerated. Mu Sisi could imagine that when the wound heals, it would leave a disgusting scar.
“Didn’t I say I would bring you a mirror? Why did you go crazy again!” Mu Huaisheng was exasperated, when would Mu Sisi stop going crazy.
“My face is ruined, it’s more unlikely now that Brother Chengzhi would accept me! Waah…” Mu Sisi broke down and cried while hugging her legs together. “It’s unfair, why does God treat me so unfairly? Why would he want to ruin my face?”
