Kelly gasped aloud as General Ramirez’s fist slammed into her belly and drove the air from her lungs. Her legs wobbled weakly while her battered body remained held up by Lieutenant Stenson who was choking her from behind.

“Stupid, treacherous bitch!” A second punch, and Kelly’s vision was filled with swimming spots. The lieutenant let go of her, leaving her to collapse onto the floor of her prison cell. Then the men took turns driving their boots and shoes into her, breaking and fracturing her ribs. Kelly was too broken to scream, and simply did her best to curl into a ball as the senator, general, and the other top brass rained blows and kicks on her.

No doubt that being too obvious in alerting the Nexus was a bad move. She was only thinking about the not-so-long term ramifications of Ithaca’s leaders approving the nuclear strikes. Nuking an army out of existence was all well and good, but none of the men calling the shots understood the consequences of their decision. They were assuming that the  Nexus’ military strength was just limited to what the lone returning scout had reported, that they were throwing everything they had at the super mutants.

Kelly was smart enough to know otherwise.

Right now though, she wished she was smart enough to keep herself alive long enough to be vindicated. Senator Miles had slapped her around a few times before the MPs dragged her down here where her punishment had been going on for at least a good thirty minutes now.

“It seems we were wrong in praising your competence, Miss Doyle,” the senator remarked drily above her. “For all your intelligence, it looks like, as ever, you’re still a hormonal woman that requires a strict guiding hand.” Kelly kept quiet, savoring the pause in the beatings and using the break to gulp down bloody breaths. Jeremiah’s voice suddenly took on a sadder tinge. “I suppose I’ve been too naive to think that you could rise above your womanhood. It’s such a shame that a bright, keen mind is wasted on such a pretty thing like you.”

There was a pause, followed by some movement  above her head. Then, Kelly’s arms were grabbed and she was flipped on her back. More hands reached out, tearing the young woman’s clothes off her and spreading her legs wide. Primal terror lent her the strength to struggle against the groping hands, and her lungs somehow managed to scream in protest.

“Don’t worry, we’ll make sure you get to experience the joys of being a true woman before we hang your wretched body. It’s the least I can do, for all your hard work until now.”

More blows rained onto her, but Kelly kept resisting even if she knew it only prolonged the inevitable. As much as she wanted this to stop, as much as she didn’t want to die whether from the Nexus’ inevitable attack or from her own superior’s hands, Kelly didn’t beg for forgiveness or try to find some way to weasel her way out. Even with what awaited her, Kelly liked to think that she had enough spite in her to stop herself from becoming a pathetic, whimpering woman.

Something pressed against her inner thighs, and Kelly’s swollen eyes made out the burly general Ramirez looming over her, with one hand mauling her breast while another cradled his naked cock. Her renewed struggles earned her a mind-jarring slap that knocked out a tooth and turned her vision into a monochrome black-and-white for a few seconds.

She won’t reduce herself to begging. She won’t give them the satisfaction of seeing her cry for mercy. She’s going to die horribly, but Kelly would do her damndest to go out with some dignity, as much as her tormentors would be shredding it soon.

The general stopped midway as he bent over towards her, the leer on his face shifting into a confused look as he straightened and looked away. Kelly was too concussed and bruised to have felt the tingle in the air that the men did, but she had enough wits to follow the general’s gaze, and found new silhouettes by her cell’s open entrance.

“What do we have here?” It was a man’s voice, one unknown to her. His voice was tight with cold anger, and Kelly met his eyes briefly as his gaze swept across the room. More figures materialized out of thin air beside him, some dwarfing him. Girls. They were teenage girls. The others were young men and women who exuded naked anger at the Enclave men in the cell.

General Ramirez got up, his cock still exposed. “Who the fuck are-”

“Cait,” the stranger cut in contemptuously, and a red-haired girl shot out to drive a fist into Alvin Ramirez’s exposed cock. The loud snap of breaking bones drowned out his shriek, though when the girl yanked back her hand with a trail of blood and gore, the general’s scream echoed clearly in the cell.

“Process them,” the man curtly ordered over the mewling of the collapsed general. “Take your time.”

The other figures lunged at the men around her, and Kelly was treated to the sounds she had never expected to hear from the leadership of Ithaca. Despite the abuse she’d suffered, hearing the senator and rough military men of the Enclave reduced to shrieking and whimpering over the breaking of bone and tearing of flesh in a blink of an eye was utterly unnerving and devoid of any sense of vengeful satisfaction.

As the newcomers had their fun, the man by the cell walked towards Kelly. She didn’t fail to notice him producing a strange laser pistol out of nowhere.

So this was it then. At least the Nexus invaders didn’t look like they’d be toying with her before they ended her. At least Kelly really hoped that the man would put a bullet or laser beam cleanly through her head instead of turning her last moments into a bullet sponge.

Instead of a merciful execution though, a warm white beam washed over her, and washed away the throbbing pain. Kelly felt her body fix itself under the glow of the white light, feeling her ribs resetting to where they should be in whole pieces, her bruises fading, and even her missing teeth regrown.

In a few seconds, Kelly Doyle found herself breathing easily with fresh lungs again, and sitting up on unbroken arms to marvel at her restored body.

“Better?” her healer asked, and she turned to face him to reply with a grateful, dumbstruck nod. He rose up and offered his hand. “Here.”

“Why were they torturing you?” His voice was surprisingly heavy with genuine concern as he helped her up.

Kelly cleared her throat with a few hacking coughs before answering.  “Because I sent the message to your Nexus about the nukes…” A deep frown formed on his face, but as he remained silent, she spoke again. “It was only them, I swear. The senator and the brass…  I…we didn’t…”

“It’s okay,” he interrupted. “You’ll be fine, and your city too.” He turned to someone else in the cell. “Curie, give her a checkup just in case?”

“Of course, Sev,” the woman in question replied in a soft, almost sing-song accent.

Wait, that was Sev? As in, ‘overlord of the Nexus’ Sev?

He looked way better than expected for a wasteland warlord.

Curie came into Kelly’s view, and slowly led her away from the screaming and pleading of the prison cell. Finding herself in the security room, Kelly was subject to the woman’s questions and light touches, one that betrayed the skill of a medical expert. She was then offered a new set of clothes before being led outside, to find Fort Cornel swarming with foreign soldiers and tentacled robots. Beyond the walls, massive robots stalked the city of Ithaca, and aircraft descended from the skies.

Kelly gulped as she took in the sight of her home being so quickly overrun. “How…how did you…?”

“Thankfully the nuclear blasts only caused minor and brief disruptions to our forces,” Curie helpfully answered with a bright smile, understanding the incomplete question. “We flew over as soon as we healed our wounded, and it took little effort to infiltrate and capture this territory.”

Curie’s smile faded into an apologetic frown. “I’m sorry that we did not arrive and act sooner, we did not know the…conditions you were subject to.”

Kelly boggled at the other woman, blinking several times as she tried to grasp the full implications of the words. Not only did the nukes seem to do jack all to the Nexus army, but in the time that it took for Kelly’s futile escape, her capture and incomplete torture, the Nexus flew their forces over and conquered Ithaca in a blink of an eye.

And this woman before her was apologizing for being too slow?

“I… It’s ok,” Kelly managed to reply as they reached a clearly makeshift camp with white Mr Handy bots checking Enclave soldiers under the clearly angry gaze of armored Nexus conquerors. “What happens now?”

“Now, we’ll process the city. If your leaders are confirmed to be solely responsible, the people of Ithaca will be given the choice to leave in peace, or join the Nexus.” Curie’s pretty face was marred as she frowned again. “Sev wants to send a message, so I’m afraid that Ithaca will be destroyed regardless of what happens.”

Kelly felt her freshly healed stomach drop at the declaration of her home’s impending extermination. Before the bitter sting could fully set in though, the former senator’s aide weighed a bit more on the thought.

What was her home really worth to her? Full of idiotic and hateful men, incompetent leaders, and severe limitations to life for simply being born a woman, why was Kelly feeling bad about Enclave Ithaca being razed to the ground?

Instead, shouldn’t she be working towards her original plan, now that she was no longer going to be raped and killed?

Kelly chewed on her bottom lip for a second, and then straightened herself as she looked Curie in the eye with all seriousness. “I am Kelly Doyle. I was the secretary to Senator Jeremiah Miles. I can provide you with any information about the Enclave city of Ithaca, and its surrounding territories.” Ignoring the stares from the captured soldiers, Kelly continued to freely offer all that she knew. “I also know the current cycle of ciphers being used for nationwide Enclave communications, as well as any and all paperwork regarding the Enclave.”

It turns out that the Nexus behaved far more civilly than the Enclave, and Kelly didn’t need to throw herself at anyone’s mercy. She was briefly and gently questioned and then served as a guide to the Nexus soldiers, and after that Kelly Doyle happily joined the Nexus Severalty, along with most of the oppressed women of Ithaca. She’d have to take time getting used to the idea of a far more…liberating life as a woman, but it was nice that she wasn’t forced to whore herself out to save her life as she had once expected.
