Romeo stared down at the phone in his hand and sighed as he sat down by his working desk. The door to his room creaked open and his mother walked in. He turned to look at her and smiled. Smiling back at him she said, “So your brother and sister are ready for school what about you?”
He sighed and got up, moving to his bed he said, “I don’t know if I want to go today.”
“I’m not pressuring you, I know what today means to both you and me so I’ll ask your step-father to take them to school so you could stay home,” she said.
Romeo turned his head as he lied down and said, “Thanks, I think I want to sleep, I’ll go to the later classes.”
His mother walked over to the bed and closed him, she leaned down and kissed him on the forehead, rubbing his head, she lied down beside him and hugged her son.
Today was the first year anniversary of his father’s death and his death was both relieving but it was troubling too with his father’s background and all.
Maddison walked into the room and saw her mother and brother asleep, she frowned but let them be because her mother was not all smiles this morning.
She went back downstairs and said, “Dad, mom and Romeo are asleep.”
Her father sighed and nodded his head, “Come let’s go!”

Halo ran his hands through his hair then ran the hot water into the sink.
“Okay so we have the list now we need to decide who is going to do what,” Billie said.
Halo turned his head to see what he needed to bring over and saw Billie sitting in her chair filing her nails.
He walked over to the bench, picked up the dirty trays then went back to the sink. The cluttering sound caught her attention and she said, “Since Halo volunteered, he’ll do the macarons and meringues.”
Billie’s best friend shook her head and said, “I’ll help you out Halo, we all know this bitch just wants the credit.”
Halo nodded his head, “Thanks, I’d just appreciate it if someone else could do the jellies and the chocolate. Billie, I did not volunteer for shit, if you are here to just give orders then just leave, we do not need you here because your annoying voice sounds like a pig being slaughtered.”
“Haha,” Elise laughed and looked at her friend, “Bitch, if you are going to stay here then that is your thing.”
She picked up her back and said, “I’ll see you guys tomorrow, I have a boyfriend to go see too.”
Billie watched her walk away then said to Halo, “You really think just because you are here that you can do what you want…”
“No Billie, I am here because I have talent and you are here because everyone left, I am the only one who knows what you can do so just shut up and leave, I’m so sick of you and if you dare think of doing something to me again, just know that I will poison your ass,” Halo threatened her and the kitchen went silent.
Halo went on doing what he needed to and after a moment, he turned around and said, “What are you all standing there for, get to cleaning and fuck off!”
Being vice-president had its pros and cons, one pro was that he could tell others what to do but a con was that Billie was the president so she had the last say.

Romeo’s phone rang waking him up. When he tried to get up, he found himself in his mother’s arms. He kissed her on the nose then reached over to grab his phone and saw that it was his ex-girlfriend Nicola who had phoned him.
He groaned and threw his phone on one side. Getting up out of bed, he heard the wind blow against the window and went to it. He opened his curtains and saw that it was raining outside, “Fuck, I still have to go to the library.”
He got ready for school and looked at the time, it was after twelve so he only had five hours to do his research.
Halo finally got the kitchen cleaned, brownies baked and out of the oven and the blondies too. He prepared the list he had to do for tomorrow and sorted out his schedule, he looked at the time then out of the window and sighed thinking, ‘I should have gotten my license when I had the chance.’
The walk back home was mostly to help him cut down on the weight he gains from all the desserts he tastes and eats from all the experimenting and especially because he wanted a flat belly.
“We’re leaving now Halo,” one of the kids said to him.
Halo nodded his head with a smile saying, “Enjoy the rest of your day.”
He packed up his bag, packing away half of the brownies as well into his bag and covered everything with a lace cloth.
He switched off all the ovens, switched off all the lights then locked the door behind him.
He rushed outside and saw that the parking lot was empty then rushed out under the rain.
Romeo ran to his car as the rain suddenly poured down on him with lightning striking down!
He climbed into the driver’s seat and sat down heaving in a sigh of relief, "Well this sucks," he commented seeing that his car seat was now soaking in the water from his clothes. Romeo stared out of the windshield and saw that it was raining cats and dogs outside.
Chucking his backpack to the back where it landed on the backseat. He took off his baseball jacket and placed it on the floor at the back.
Fastening his seatbelt, he started the engine and drove off school grounds. Stopping at the first stop street; looking up into the rearview mirror, he saw that a boy dressed in a green tracksuit was walking out from the school gate.
Looking away, he drove off to the mall where he bought himself new running shoes.
He stopped at a coffee shop, bought himself a coffee then drove back home. On his way back, he passed the school and just as he was nearing his area, he saw that same boy wearing the green tracksuit at a crossing.
‘How long has it been since I left school? He walked so far, we're at least thirty minutes away from school,’ he said to himself.
Driving up to the boy, he rolled down the passenger side window and stopped the car, hooting he yelled, "Get into the car, I'll take you home!"

Halo stopped walking and looked into the car with his hand covering his eyes from the rain; Halo’s eyes widened as he recognized Romeo. Shaking his head quickly, he yelled over the rain, "Thanks but it’s okay, I live not too far away from here."
Romeo frowned, "It's raining and you've been walking for over thirty minutes, don't be stubborn and just get in, I'll take you home."
Halo shook his head, "I said it's okay," he said and started walking again.
Romeo glared at Halo’s back and drove up to him again, climbing out of the car, he ran after Halo and dragged him back to his car. Shoving him inside the car, he locked the car then jogged over to his side, unlocked it and climbed back in.
Starting his car up again, he wound the window up and looked at Halo. He was about to reprimand him but saw who it was, "I told you it was fine," Halo said snapping Romeo out of his thoughts.
Fastening his seatbelt, he drove off saying, "Stop being stubborn. Fasten your seatbelt." Halo sighed and did as he was told, "I'm Rome," Romeo introduces himself and held out his left hand instead of his right.
Halo looked at Romeo's hand and hesitantly shook it with his right, "I'm Halo."
Romeo hummed, "It's nice to meet you."
Halo stared at Romeo after pulling his hand away and after a moment he said, "We've met many times before, you know… All those times when your best friend kept calling me a faggot."
Romeo pressed his lips together, coming to a stop, he turned to look at Halo saying, "Yeah, sorry about him, he has his reasons for disliking gays."
Pressing on the gas and letting the handbrake down he asked, "So where do you stay?"
Looking out of the window, Halo answered, "Two streets before your street."
Romeo's brows knitted, "How come I've never seen you around here before?"
"I prefer to stay indoors," Halo answered in a whisper.
Romeo looked over at him briefly then handed him his coffee, "Here, I drank half of it already, hope you don't mind, it'll keep you warm until you get home."
Halo looked at the coffee cup held in front of him then looked back at Romeo. Turning back to the cup he took it brushing his hand accidentally against Romeo's as he whispered, "Thank you, Romeo."
Romeo sighed hearing his first name being called, "Please don't call me that.”
Halo hummed as he sipped from the entrance Romeo drank from, after swallowing he asked, "Why not? I like your name, it suits you better than Rome does."
Romeo reached over and switched on the heater, side-eyeing Halo he answered, "My parents were crazy for naming me that, but thank you… you have beautiful eyes… they suit you just as your name does," Romeo added slightly embarrassed.
Halo's face flushed at the compliment. Looking at Romeo, he couldn't help it but the fluttering of butterflies in his stomach made him nervous. Thinking it over, he said, "Thanks."
"From who did you inherit them?" Romeo asked conversationally as he switched gears.
Looking out of the window, Halo answered, "From my late grandfather."
"Ah shit, sorry," Romeo apologized.
Halo chuckled with a slight shake of his head, "Don't be, I never knew him, he died before I was born."
Romeo relaxed after hearing that. He looked over at Halo again before turning to the road, "I've spoken to Adrian about being resentful towards gays, but he won't listen."
"It's okay, you don't have to apologize for him, he's grown. He should know what's right and wrong," Halo answered noting down the word 'resentful.'
Romeo nodded his head, "Do you always leave school this late?"
"Ah no, only Tuesday's and Thursday's since I have club activities," Halo answered with a spark in his emerald eyes.
Romeo raised a brow noticing the happiness in Halo's voice, changing gears, he snuck a glance and saw that Halo was looking at him eagerly.
Smiling Romeo continued, "Oh yeah? What club are you a part of?"
Halo beamed, "Arts and Foodies," Halo answered.
Narrowing his eyes on the road Romeo asked, "Foodies? You mean that club that organises the drinks and food for other clubs for school functions?"
"Yup!" Halo answered popping the 'p'.
Romeo smirked and looked over at Halo, "What do you do?"
"Well since the beginning of this year, I've been the vice president, I make sure everything is in order and come up with recipes," Halo answered. Thinking for a moment, he looked ahead when Romeo turned into the street and said, "It’s the yellow house."
Romeo nodded and stopped in front of it.
Halo rummaged through his bag and pulled out a brown paper bag, handing it to Romeo, he said, "Take this as payment."
Romeo nodded and smiled, "Well, here we are, shower when you get inside and climb into bed after eating and taking vitamins."
Halo looked at him for a second then smirked, undoing the seatbelt, he leaned over to Romeo's ear and whispered, "Yes daddy."
