Chapter 43: Chapter 42

Halo was jumping on his bed as he looked at his bank balance. Pulling up the contacts he dialled a number, “Hello my idiot son, did you get your birthday present?”

“Yes, I did but why did you send me so much? I don’t need twenty thousand dollars,” he said.

His father laughed, “Just spend it and don’t forget to pay your car off.”

“Yes sir!” He said and ended the call. Climbing off the bed, he walked into the next room and said, “It looks like we can throw one hell of a party.”

His roommate stood up and screeched, “Yass bitch, finally.”

Halo shook his head amused then went back to his room. Sitting down on the bed, he sighed as his body started trembling. He started coughing, then he lay on the bed and closed his eyes. It wasn’t only his birthday today but it was Romeo’s as well. 

“Romeo,” he called out. But there was no response. Not that he was expecting one.

A few hours later…

Halo was grinding against another man and making out with another. The music was playing loud and the dorm room was filled with students here to celebrate Halo’s birthday.

He had many friends because he was a lively and lovable person. But most importantly, many of the guys here wanted to fuck Halo.

“I’m going to take a break,” Halo said to the guys and went to the couch. Dropping down he sighed and took the glass of wine his NEW best friend handed to him. He looked at her and asked, “Why do you have that smile on your face?”

“Because no matter if it's your party or someone else's, these men all want a piece of you. I wonder what magic you use,” she said.

“Oh shut it Candice,” Halo said embarrassed.

He moved his head to the beat of the music as he looked around. His party was a success, he thought it wouldn’t be but it is – to say that he was happy, he’d be lying.

Sighing as he thought about Niam, he didn’t see him in so long and he missed Nylah. She was growing up too fast and he wished he was with her. Niam wasn’t furthering his studies because he had his responsibility and from the texts that they were sharing, it seemed like Niam found someone new but he wasn’t telling him who it was.

“What’s wrong? You’re not happy?” Candice asked him.

He shook his head, “I am, its just that this isn’t my usual crowd.”

Candice smiled and looked at the crowd. “Whose that?” She suddenly asked.

Halo looked at her then looked at the door and his eyes widened. “Fuck his handsome,” she said.

The person she was talking about was none other than Romeo who he ran away from. Romeo was rocking a black and white baseball jacket with a black polo neck on under and black jeans. He cut his curly hair off but it seemed to be growing back.

“Halo?” Someone called and when Halo looked at him, he saw that it was Craig. Halo shuddered, frightened. Craig had been pursuing Halo since they first met and today was just another day.

“He, hey Craig, what’s up?” He asked.

Craig sat down beside him and kissed him on the cheek, “We didn’t get to speak. I just wanted to wish you a happy birthday.”

He reached into his pocket and pulled out a small box. Candice chuckled beside them.

Craig handed him the box saying, “It’s not much but I wanted to get you something that had a meaning to it.”

Halo’s nervousness went away as he took the box. Opening the box he smiled. Craig had gotten him a butterfly necklace. He looked at Craig and said, “Thank you, it’s so beautiful.”

Craig smiled at him. He was happy that Halo liked it, more relieved though. Taking this chance, Craig leaned in for a kiss. Halo’s eyes widened and he didn’t know what to do. Craig almost reached his lips when a hand blocked him off from reaching Halo’s lips.

Halo looked at the hand then looked up the arm and saw Romeo smiling at him but the look in his eyes wasn't friendly at all.

“What the fuck?” Craig asked angrily. This guy just ruined his chance at kissing Halo. Romeo looked at Craig and asked, “Who gave you permission to kiss him?”

Halo shuddered hearing his voice. Everyone around them knew that Craig was into Halo and was watching to see if Halo would let him kiss him but here the superhero came and ruined it all for him.

Halo placed his hands on Romeo’s arm and said, “Romeo don’t.” Romeo looked at him and asked, “You were celebrating your birthday without me? Why didn’t I get an invite?”

Halo tugged at his arm, “I lost your number but it’s okay now, you’re here.”

Romeo raised a brow then nodded his head, “Fine.” He turned to Craig who was confused and said, “Sorry dude, I didn’t introduce myself. I’m Halo’s man.”

“What?” Candice asked stunned.

Halo could feel his head spin then said, “Come, I want to show you something.”

He dragged Romeo off to his bedroom and when he shut the door, the sound of the music was dimmed. Halo looked at Romeo and he was busy taking off his jacket while he looked around the room.

“Why are you here?” Halo asked him.

Romeo turned to him and the smile he had on his face was gone. “So not only did you not invite me but you’re also letting other guys kiss you.”

“He didn’t kiss me,” Halo said.

“Did you try and stop him?” Romeo asked.

Halo looked at him then looked away saying, “I thought I made it clear to you that it’s over between us.”

Romeo walked over to him and lifted his hand. He placed it around Halo’s neck holding him there then shoved him against the door and choked him. Leaning down, he kissed Halo on the lips that was struggling to breathe and said, “But you didn’t. All you said was that you need a break and I told you that I would give you until today because you and I, we need to celebrate our birthday together or is there some misunderstanding here?”

Halo couldn’t breathe. He raised his left leg and hit Romeo in his balls with his knee. Romeo winced and let go of him. When Halo was free, he raised his hand and smacked him across the face. 

Romeo moved back and sat down on the bed. Halo walked up to him and smacked him across teh face again and said, “Don’t you ever, ever do that again to me.”

Romeo wrapped his arm around his waist and pulled him onto his lap. Looking into Halo’s green eyes that he missed so much he said, “You know you make me horny when you hurt me.”

“Romeo this isn’t funny. You are supposed to be over me and not come here looking to get back together with me,” Halo said trying to push him away.

Romeo held him closer asking, “Why? Why do I have to give up on us? I did nothing wrong.”

“You did nothing wrong?” Halo repeated angrily. He got off of him and went to the door, locking it he turned to him and asked, “You did nothing wrong?”

“Romeo, I watched you do so many bad things. I thought you didn’t want me apart of that life but you lied. You showed me everything from the beginning and I? I love you but I can’t, I just can’t. You’re a monster Romeo and I don’t want to be involved with you,” Halo said.

Romeo rolled his eyes and loosened his belt. He lied down on the bed and said, “Stop fooling yourself Halo. If you were really over me, you would have been dicked down by another man and that boy Craig, he isn’t your type. My crazy ass is.”

Halo stared at him stunned, “How do you know his name is Craig?”

Romeo started chuckling, “Oh really? Did you really think I wasn’t keeping tabs on you?”
