Chapter 1: Welcome to Haviour City

         The bell chimed as the door opened on a cold, cold night. A man walked in and took a seat. " Some coffee please, thanks." he said. The bartender after a glance responded "Sure thing fella." And so the bartender got to work swiftly grabbing the container of beans and inserting just the right amount into the coffee machine with a spoon while the customer simply read the newspaper. After finishing up the hot beverage was placed on the counter. "Yeah thanks, brother." said the man dressed rather gruffly as he looped his fingers around the handle of his cup of coffee before raising it to his lips only to pull it back. "Perfect not too warm, not too cold." The man in question looked back at his customer. "Good to know, good to know. Oh by the way, Tyson" he said looking back at his customer while still facing his shelf of drinks. "I heard Layton got laid off." Tyson furrowed his brows "Yeah a good man he was."

Howie stared at Tyson for a bit before replying "Didn't the chief do anything to prevent that?"  "Couldn't, the higher ups were dead set on it." Tyson said with a bit of venom in his voice. "You still think its Cyber Defense?" Howie asked taking a seat behind the counter. Tyson only nodded. Cyber Defense was a company that as the name would imply is in the internet security business. It is the only company of its type in the City of Haviour and so many of the residents have come to rely on it. That dependency has lead to influence and some say that it's influence is far and that the company itself is also under another's influence.  How that influence is used is a topic worthy of debate.

"I wouldn't be surprised if they came out and said they're buying Haviour. Damn good for nothings." Tyson Grumbled. "They do provide an essential service." Howie chimed in. Nodding in agreement Tyson responded "Yeah, you're right but I still have a bad feeling about them maybe I'm going mad." "Maybe you are." Howie laughed. With a chuckle Tyson went quiet again and so the silence ensued once more.

"We can't even afford to lay off people like this. The crimes aren't slowing down and the force is getting thin." Tyson said with a mix of emotions in his voice. Howie simply listened nodding  as if urging him on. "I'm worried whether or not this city's going to survive."  "Me too Tyson, me too." Howie paused before continuing. " The economy is getting worse, business isn't too good, I'm just scraping by a is and-" his sentence was cut short by a ringing phone. Tyson grabbed his and looked at the caller. "Well shit, it's the chief. Can't even enjoy a cup of joe anymore." with that he took a swig. before reaching into his wallet and placing his payment on the counter. "Well I'll see ya around Howie."

"Yeah later." Howie did a curt salute in return. Before walking to the window the blinds pulling it aside, to see Tyson getting into his vehicle before driving off. Moving his gaze to the right revealed a citizen walking away quickly, a package in hand.  No doubt that package is that new drug he thought. Firecracker is a drug that took the city by storm. Starting in the southern district and spreading. It stimulates various aspects of the body inhibiting inhibitions and bringing quite the experience to it's users. Guns are being smuggled in and nothing is being done about it. Some blame the police force, some blame the government and some just don't care anymore.

It's a plague, this city. One should think twice of living here. If you're rich and influential you'll have a good time if you're not then turn away.

And to anyone who wants to know more about this city, it's an urban sprawl built on lies and corruption. Of chaos and unlawfulness. And to those that come here and expect fairness and simplicity and happy endings all around turn back. But for those who stay then I say, I hope you enjoy, Under the Neon Glow.
