“Well, although it was a disposable piece… just judging by the corpse alone, it was still a higher-ranked monster species. Well, we can talk more later. I’m going to go back to patrolling Seykoll to see if there are any citizens that need saving. Lewin, thank you so much for your hard work.” (Kirty)
After patting me gently on the head as I lay there on the ground, Kirty took the girl and her mother and left. As for me, I was still trying to wrap my head around the fact that the Purple Troll was just a disposable piece, and I couldn’t stop thinking about it. My mind was running in circles as I suddenly had the thought that if we had run into a Demon King’s Army Executive instead of that purple Troll, we would have been totally wiped out.
“….Hey, Lewin! Just now, that was the Captain of the Knights of the Royal Order, wasn’t it?! What were you guys talking about?!” (Lyra)
As I was stuck there, lost in my thoughts, Lyra, who had seen the conversation between me and Kirty just now, bounced over to me.
Setting aside the matter of the purple Troll being a disposable piece… How am I going to answer Lyra’s question? Wait… how did she know that was Kirty?
“Er, ummm…. She just asked me a bit about the little girl we saved just now. Anyway… how did you know that was the Captain of the Knights, Lyra?” (Lewin)
“I mean, she had the armband that signified she’s a Captain, and there’s only one female in the Knights of the Royal Order in the first place! Anyway, enough about that! Didn’t you guys look kind of close there?! …I saw her pat your head, you know?!” (Lewin)
“…She was just commending me for rescuing the little girl and defeating the Purple Troll…?” (Lewin)
“Eii…. I could’ve sworn it was more than that though…” (Lyra)
Lyra was examining me intently with doubtful eyes. It pained me to tell a lie, but I didn’t want to disclose anything against Kirty’s wishes. Even though I trusted Lyra, she was still a stranger to Kirty. I couldn’t just tell her without Kirty’s permission.
“…Lyra, please leave it at that. Even though Lewin isn’t injured, he’s still unable to move right now. For now, we should get out of here.” (Nina)
On our way out of Seykoll, we ran into two Ogres along the way, but Lyra dealt with both of them using a continuous barrage of attacks. We managed to safely escape from the city in one piece.
After we left Seykoll, we ended up running into [The Egg Club], who were fighting outside the city. Since the members of [Iron Gear] had been mentored by Edward from [The Egg Club] before, we grouped up with them and returned to Grezesta together.
…Oddly enough, I was being carried on Edward’s back right now. From the time we left Seykoll until about halfway through our way back, I had been carried by Nina. But for some reason, Edward volunteered to carry me on his back, and now here I was.
Edward looked like a typical amiable old man that you could find anywhere, but now that I was being carried on his back, I could tell how incredible his physique was. Even though he was about the same size as me, while he was carrying me, his center of balance did not waver one bit, and his lean, toned body reminded me of tempered steel.
I was pretty nervous about being carried on the back of someone I’d never met before. But eventually, Edward turned his head slightly to glance at me, and then spoke to me gently.
“Hohoho. Are you Lewin? I’ve heard about you many times from everyone in [Iron Gear].” (Edward)
“Y-yes. My name is Lewin. I’ve also heard about you before from the Guild Chief of the Adventurer’s Guild and the members of [Iron Gear]!” (Lewin)
“Heh, about me? I hope it wasn’t anything strange.” (Edward)
AD
“Hohohoho, I’m flattered, but I don’t deserve such praise. Even without my guidance, each member of [Iron Gear] would have grown up well on their own. All I did was give them a little pointer or two.” (Edward)
He gave off a similar feeling to the grandma from Elf’s Tears, and he had a very calm and mellow manner of speaking. We had only been lightly chatting thus far as he continued to carry me on his back, but, if there was an opportunity, I hoped to receive a few pointers from him one day.
