Chapter 11: Chapter 9: Pain

  "Yes, you want to go right away?" David asked as he held her from behind.

  "Yes. Will you come with me?" Alina worriedly asked as she held his hand on her belly.

  "Silly. Why are you asking if you already know the answer?" He said and kissed the back of her head.

  For some reason, Alina started to cry.

  "Why are you crying, sweetheart? Does it hurt that badly?" David felt that it might be even more serious than he thought. 

  "I don't know. I just right now have a feeling that i... have lost something…" Alina suddenly lost strength in her and almost fell if not David.

  "Alina, we are going immediately. I will call a taxi." David was calm on the surface, but inside he almost began to panic.

  In around 40 minutes, a taxi arrived near their house. 

  Because Alina lost strength in her legs, David lifted her in his hands and carried her inside a taxi.

  "To the hospital. Now!" The driver saw that the situation was serious, so he nodded.

  In the taxi, David looked outside the window, buildings flashing here and there, as well as other people going about their daily lives.

  "Doesn't matter what happens, I will always be with you, Alina." David seriously whispered in her ear. Alina was sitting on his lap as he hugged her tightly from behind.

  Alina was very emotional in this state and began to tear heavily after hearing his words.

  ….

  The taxi arrived outside the hospital after an hour.

David paid the driver and they both came out of the taxi.

  They both held each other's hands tightly and entered the hospital.

  There were not many people currently as it was still morning. 

  They neared the reception desk.

  "We need to visit a gynaecologist. And it should be a woman only." David said.

  A woman at the desk glanced at them and nodded. "I will ask if she's free currently. One second."

  After a few minutes, the woman at the desk told them.

  "She's free currently. Second floor, cabinet number 21."

  "Thank you," Alina said and they moved to the 2nd floor. 

  When they neared the corresponding cabinet, Davis knocked.

 *Knock*

  "Enter" Woman's voice was heard from inside.

  They both entered and closed the door. Near the window was a woman in her thirties sitting on a chair near the table.

  "I'm listening." The doctor looked at them and said,

  "Tell her, honey." David softly said to his lover.

  Alina nodded and began to describe her situation. 

  "... I see. Mister Strom, can you leave the room for a while?" The doctor looked at David with a bit of narrowed eyes and said.

  David was a smart person, so he just kissed Alina's head and left. 

  When he left, the doctor said,

  "I heard something like that before, and it was from the woman who was… raped. And you probably were hit strongly in the abdomen. This pain can be just temporary, either way, we need to complete a few tests." The doctor said to Alina who was sitting near her in the chair.

  ….

  David was sitting in the chair outside the cabinet, waiting. He run a lot of possibilities in his head and what he should do if some were real. 

  After around 20 minutes, the door opened.

  "Please, come in." Doctor said.

  David stood up and entered. The doctor closed the door and went to her place.

  "..." There were a few seconds of silence as the doctor looked at them.

  Alina began to be nervous as her hands trembled slightly as she waited for the result of her tests. 

  "Miss Alina, from the damage to some parts of your body you will never conceive a child." The doctor calmly said.

  Even though Alina suspected something like that as a possibility, and tried to don't think about that, hearing confirmation from the doctor was like a cold bucket of water thrown on her. 

  The fear she felt before in their house when she said that she felt as if lost something, was the moment she became infertile. 

   She started to remble as tears began to fall from her face. Alina tried not to cry in front of a stranger, but it was useless. 

  Alina and David can't have a child together. If they have, then that child will have a high chance to be born with various defections. They will not destroy the child's life because of their selfishness. 

  Still, knowing that she, as a woman, became eternally infertile was just too much. Being raped in front of her David, who became her entire world was just not enough… 'Why is this happening to m…' She thinks while David hugged her tightly, but the doctor continued.

  "And… you have Ovarian Cancer," Doctor said to Alina. She was a woman herself. Telling this to her was not easy, but she must.

  "..." Silence filled the room.

  Alina froze as her heart basically stopped. 

  She turned to look at David with tears falling like waterfalls.

  "Haha…" She began to laugh brokenly and then fainted in his arms. 

  "Alina!!" David's face turned deadly pale as he screamed. 

  "Place her on the bed." Doctor hasty said.

  David did as she said. He saw a doctor checking her condition. He said. 

  "How… much time she has?" He trembled as he said those words.

  "..."

  "From a few months to a year.." Doctor answered.

  "..." Davis closed his already wet eyes as he held her hand.

  Anger and hate-filled his heart. 'Why she..? She is such a kind, soft, and gentle woman, but she was raped, then became infertile, and now… cancer?' David began to curse in his heart. 'World really didn't want to see us be together, huh?'

  He doesn't care anymore about the police that might come looking for them soon. He now wants only to take Alina away from here. And bring her to a faraway place where there would be only them two. He wants to spend every last moment together with her. If she died… 

  David squeezed his fists so hard that his nails pierced his flesh and blood began to fall through his fingers.
