Chapter 8: Chapter 8: The First Battle

With two of the Rogues captured, it was clear that the Rulers had the advantage. But even so, Montana still had to keep her guard up. At midnight of the same day, Montanas group, with the help of scouts and Sophia knew that the Rogues had no movement. The scouts, who was asked to continue their role, finally saw movemnt, of two Rogues in the entrance. Sophia predicted such things, and included her vision with what the Scouts reported. The vision she saw included one of the Rogues the scouts saw. Montana asked her if she could look into the future once more but Sophie was already exhausted, knowing that Sophie was at her limit, Montana decided to let her rest. Now with Sophie's vision gone, she knew she had to be even more cautious. While Sophie goes back to the Palace to rest, Montana calls for everybody who was present there and discussed the plan together.

Montana: Okayy, so far we know that there are seven of them, and we captured two. Its less likely that most of the five which are left are all capable of fighting in long ranged battles. Knowing that, itll be easier for us.

General 1: The scouts reported that they had a reason to believe The Masked Rogue called out their strongest to guard the entrance.

Montana: We all know that they aren’t to be underestimated so we will do this mission carefully, Leo and his men will come from the front, with either Kai or Kaiden supporting them. Whoever is left of the two will move with me and Dain, we will enter on the left side and hopefully meet up in the middle. Each team will have scouts to report if there’s a problem. Any questions?

Leo: Do we know anything about the last five?

Montana: No...  Even if we did we should still be careful, study your target before showing all your cards.

Kaiden: I’ll join Leonhardt's group. Kai can cover for you.

Kai: Okayy if you say so.

And so the group proceeded as planned. When the enemy base was in sight, Leo took cover. Kaiden on the other hand, casted an invisibility spell to himself and their Sharpshooter. Leo then began searching for nearby traps or areas where Shooters might be, but seeing there were none, he looks at the Rogue and lets off a short laugh. He then shows himself to the Rogue guarding the door. His men, who were shocked of his bold action, covered him from behind. With the Knight and Lance in stance, and the marskman aiming directly at the lone Rogue. Leo looks at him once more, but this time face to face. Seeing the Rogue do nothing even after their actions, Leo decides and takes a couple of steps forward and speaks.

Leo: I am Leonhardt! The Chevalier Knight. I’ve come to discuss important matters with your leader. Please, let us pass

But the Rogue never moved, instead crossed his arms. Just before Leo could take another step, the Rogue speaks in a deep monotone voice.

Rogue Guardian: My Leader... Told me to not let anyone go inside. This is my zone, leave before you force my hand.

Leo (flustered, and a bit annoyed): I see, so this is how we're gonna go.

The Rogue never replied back, he stood there as if he was waiting for someone. Kaiden warned Leo because he was worried of the Guardian. He had no aura which worried him. A vague sound was heard when the Guardian held his ear as if he was listening to something. Leo became cautious, but after that the Rogue pointed his hand to one of Leo's men.

Rogue Guardian: I’ve received permission... If you go any further, I will be forced to act... I’ll take down the girl first. Then the one behind you.

Kaiden was shocked by he said, even after his invisibility spell, the Guardian saw through the both of them, even pointing at their specific places. He was also shocked by the fact the Guardian chose to take out shooter instead of himself, seeing as their shooter came back from an injury, he cancels his spell and grins, then speaks right after.

Kaiden: I see... So that’s why you're alone…

Kaiden grabs Leo's shoulder and warns him once more. Knowing that their enemy must not be underestimated Leo orders his men to go around the Guardian, but as they were taking their position. He breaks his stance and jumps towards one of them. But just before the Guardian's huge sword hits their sharpshooter, Leo manages to mislead his blade making his attack miss. Leo felt the power the Guardian had especially the moment he tried to block his next attack. Knowing that the Rogue's strength is greater than his, he changes his strategy. Instead of blocking his attacks, he plans to just make him miss. But when the Guardian looks the others escaping, he evades Leo then runs swiftly towards the others, aiming for the sharpshooter once more. Knowing that Leo can’t get there in time he shouts in hopes of the others hearing him

Leo: Sara! Watch out!

When Sara heared what he said, she looks behind only to see a huge sword right on her face. Kaiden immediately casted a shield, just when he thought he blocked the Rogues attack, the Guardian holds the sword with both hands, the blade of the Guardians longsword then glowed as he drags his sword to the shield, breaking it easily. Just before his sword hits Sara, their Scout pushes her aside, taking the hit. He points his sword towards Sara then swings it, hitting her armor, launching her towards the buildings wall, but Kaiden used a spell to slow her down. When Kaiden succeeds in catching her, he lets out a sigh of relief but when he looks behind him, he sees the Guardian heading his way. So he leaves the rifle and carries the girl, but even with the spell Sara still slowed him down. When the Guardian reaches him, he swings his sword but was once again blocked by Kaiden’s shield. Kaiden knew that he could break it, so he fired attacks at the same time. After freezing the Guardians feet, he constantly shoots balls of fire, which worn out the Guardians cloak. Sooner than later he got sick of this, he holds his sword with both hands once more, driving it through the shield breaking it easily, stepping on Kaiden’s stomach. Just before he could kill Kaiden, Leo shouts from behind and was wielding Sara's rifle which Kaiden left. Knowing that the rifle would hit first... The Guardian dodges, which gave an opportunity to Kaiden and Sara. He grouped up with the two right and told Kaiden that he would cover them. The Lance helped Leo stall the Guardian while the Knight carries Sara inside, which gave Kaiden a safe place to heal her. Once the Knight sets her down, Kaiden starts casting the spell. Just before the Knight leaves, Kaiden suddenly calls him.

Kaiden: Wait! Wait... You should go to the left side, since our scout is gone, you take his place and report to the others what happened

The Knight hesitated for a bit, figuring out whether to help his leader or do what Kaiden said, but Kaiden who saw through him stood up and grabs him by his chest plate. He then forces the Knight to look at him and then said.

Kaiden: Get your head together! We’re all gonna die if you just keep standing there. If you really care about your team then trust your leader, he can stall the Guardian but not for long... So go and get my brother!

The Knight gets back to his senses and nods as agreement, he then took the dagger from his belt and gave it to Kaiden. After that, he starts running towards the left side of the building, hoping to meet Montana midway. On the far left side, was Montana and her group who successfully captured a Rogue who seemed to be their main source of aid and was entering the same time they did. While heading towards the middle, she felt like someone was watching her, but she was unsure where. She looks carefully at the surroundings but was interrupted when the Knight of Leos team came while shouting.

Knight: Lady Montana! Our team needs reinforcements He already took out Sara and our scout., Kaiden’s currently helping her... But Sir Leo! He needs help, I’m afraid he won’t last any longer

They were shocked by what the Knight said. Leo, who was one of the strongest Knights was being held back by one Rogue. But Dain got Montana get back to her senses so Montana commands her group to move and headed towards the middle, to where Kaiden and Sara were. While they were preparing to leave, smoke began to appear, with a silhouette of a man. Montana and the others couldn’t see very well when loud shrieks and grunting were suddenly heard, as if some of them were taken out. Kai casted a spell to remove the smoke. With the smoke gone, Montana saw the guards who were supposed to be with their captured Rogue assassinated. And when they looked around, they saw the Assassin carrying the one they took already heading to the middle

Montana: There they are! Dain... Kai! Get them!

The group then tried to catch them. When the two rogues reached to the middle, the one Montana captured earlier started to slip from the assassins grip, since Kai casted a spell on him, which would weaken his body. Knowing he cant carry her any longer, the Assassin searched for a place to put her down and before Montana was on sight, he went to the side of the entrance and laid his ally down, he then walked out, took off his cloak and faced Montana’s group while taking out multiple daggers.

Montana: We got you now, Just surrender!

Assassin: This might be the end for me, but I’m gonna take some of you down with me

Dain: Wait calm down, your ally is injured. If you surrender peacefully, we'll have Kai heal her... You have my word

The Assassin went silent when Kaiden suddenly came out of where he laid his ally down, holding a dagger to his ally's throat.

Kaiden: We were in the same place you were, I just casted an invisibility spell so you wouldn’t see...

The Assassin used stun grenades then swiftly went to  Sara. Using her as hostage.

Assassin: Put her down! This girl won’t be the only one ill kill!

All of them were on edge. When suddenly, the Lance's body crashed through the wall, sticking on the opposite side. Leo on the other hand, was at the entrance door. The Guardian was raising his body while choking him, Leo spits at the Guardian and insults him. the Guardian who was enraged, threw Leo inside. Montana and Kai went towards his body and Kai started healing him. While Leo was being tended with, the Guardian enters the building, wielding his sword, he looks around to see what was happening and points at Kaiden, who was holding their Helper

Rogue Guardian: You, let go of my ally.

Kaiden didn’t let go of the Rogue, thinking that he would only ruin their chances if he lets her go. The Guardian then held his sword while entering his fighting stance, he faces Kaiden then jumps. Some of Montanas group stood up in his way, only to stall him before they get killed or knocked out. When he reaches a certain distance from Kaiden, the boy held his dagger closer to her throat in hopes that the Guardian would stop, but he never did, instead he jumps towards Kaiden, while he throws the dagger. After blocking the dagger, The Guardian took his sword and drives it towards his head. Just before the sword hits Kaiden, Kai casted a barrier to protect them only to have him break it. After driving his sword through Kaiden then casted his, which only managed to slow down the sword. When the Guardian broke through both barriers, the building's speaker suddenly rang then started to work and through it, was a voice Montana and the others didn’t recognize.

Voice: Stop! This isn’t our main purpose… To Montana of the Chisaiki Kingdom, lower your arms… I wish to have a truce

When the Guardian heard him. He stopped just before he could kill Kaiden. After that, he slowly made his way to the stairs and stood there, in the same way Leo and his group first found him. Montana and the others were still on shock but knew that what happened was an opportunity to settle things clearly. At the stairs near the entrance then appeared a masked rogue, who was said to be their leader. Montana went closer to him and spoke saying.

Montana: Im thinking you’re their leader?

Masked Rogue: And I wish to speak with you.

Montana: We came here for two reasons. To return the stuff you took and to give back the girl you took hostage, both our sides have tasted enough bloodshed so please stop this

Masked Rogue: I see... The items can be discussed once I have finished using them.

I am willing to arrange a deal with the girl, for the two members you have imprisoned

Knight: After all this... You still think you have the right to bargain?

Masked Rogue: Those two acted on their own. They will be dealt with proper punishment for disobeying my orders... And if you don’t want any more bloodshed. I suggest you let us leaders speak.

While the two leaders continued to talk, Leo finally became conscious again. When Kai saw this, he suggested Leo to stay down. But when he looked around he saw Sara, who was still unconscious, being held by the Assassin. He shouted her name hoping that she would wake up, but she never did, instead the Assassin heard him and faced his way.

Assassin: Don’t come closer

After that, Kai explained the current situation. Leo was shocked at first, but when he saw the two leaders negotiating, he just had to believe it. He went closer to the two leaders, but was stopped by the Guardian. Montana asked if he could join the conversation and the Masked Rogue agreed. When Leo was beside the Princess, he pulls her aside and punches the Masked Rogue while saying

Leo: So many have died… You think you can do what you want just like that??!

Masked Rogue: As discussed, we will leave in three days’ time. I will return the girl in two days in exchange for my members.

Montana: I apologize for my Knight's actions. Before we leave, just know that we'll be watching.

Masked Rogue: I am a man of my word.

After that, both sides have created a truce. In a condition that the Rogues were to be kept under close surveillance. Bloodshed was spared. Later on Sara and the other injured were healed, and the destructions of the fight were fixed a day after. Montana and the others then discussed what issues they had.

Montana: You guys noticed right? There were only 6 of them. Any words from the scouts yet?

Kaiden: Even though they were in a disadvantage, they acted very calm.

Kai: Maybe they knew that the negotiations would work.

Leo: With all our fighting, It angers me that they don’t have any casualties.

Montana: We'll do it... The trade, I have no issues with the Rogues, as long as they give back what they stole from Sophie, I’ll let them go.

Leo: Princess?!

Montana: This is the only way to avoid any more bloodshed, you saw it yourself, they’re only a few but they are powerful. The Guardian alone could stop the most of us, and the Assassin moved so quick that nobody saw what happened until after the Smoke was gone.

Kai: Are you sure about thi-

Montana: Yes, ive decided...

Before the others could say any more, Montana leaves them and heads towards her room.
