All the ascended celestial beings would have their memories erased. The custom remained, even with the new emperor. Hence, it was expected that Ling Er would forget about her past.
Many in the crowd were curious about how Gu Xijiu would react to the young lady. After all, she had been the subject of their gossips for the longest of time.
Gu Xijiu had been sitting quietly with a cup of tea in her hand. She watched smilingly as he slowly introduced the young lady to the guests. They did not see anything wrong with her nonchalance.
Di Fuyi walked Ling Er around and stood in front of Gu Xijiu. “Ling Er, this is Mighty Immortal Gu. Her Kung Fu is extraordinary. If you have anything that you do not understand, you can always ask her. I respect her as my own master.”
Ling Er greeted Gu Xijiu respectfully, “Mighty Immortal Gu.”
Gu Xijiu held her up and answered politely, “Ling Er, there is no need to be so courteous. You are a friend of Nianmo, so, I will consider you as a friend of my own.” She thought about it for a moment and decided to gift Ling Er a bracelet made entirely out of crystal. “It was too rushed for me to prepare anything decent. Kindly accept this gift for our first meeting.”
The bracelet was a delicate crystal handicraft with glittering and translucent carving. Apparently, it was a magical item. More importantly, it was an exquisite masterpiece. The lustrous bracelet of five colors complimented her fair and white skin. It was unusually well fit for her.
Ling Er liked the bracelet very much. She looked at Di Fuyi with hopeful eyes. Di Fuyi gave Gu Xijiu a quick glance before answering, “Accept the gift. Mighty Immortal Gu has the habit of giving out bracelets as gifts. I have one from her, too.” Delighted, Jing Ling Er thanked her before putting the bracelet on her wrist.
Everyone in the hall clearly saw the interaction. They stood gazing at one another, obviously stunned by the trio. All the doubts that they had about Gu Xijiu were gone.
The masters felt that something did not feel right. Spiritual Master Yuhang and Master Fengxing looked at one another in blank dismay, for they had not forgotten that Gu Xijiu was the sole reason Di Fuyi went hostile against them. Why would he do that, if she were just a friend?
Perhaps, what Gu Xijiu said was in a fit of anger; perhaps, he was only a child to her, but what Di Fuyi said could not be entirely untrue. Had he transferred his affection to another girl so soon? Did he think no more of Gu Xijiu, because he was only a target of her mission? They could all tell that Jing Ling Er was incomparable to Gu Xijiu.
The Emperor Immortal noticed the awkwardness that floated in the air, so he resumed the celebration. “It is a rare occasion to have everyone here today. As a celebration, we should all indulge in our drinks as much as we can!”
The celestial beings all agreed, but Gu Xijiu was no longer in the mood. She did not feel at ease, so she wanted to leave. Di Fuyi said his farewell first, however. “Your Highness, my presence here is purely coincidental. I still have other things to attend to, so I cannot stay. Farewell. Ling Er, let’s go.”
Ling Er had a peach in her hand, but they had to leave before she could enjoy it. She was obviously reluctant to part, but she still obeyed Di Fuyi and followed him quietly. Walking together, they looked happy.
Jing Er was a cheerful and lively girl. She looked just like a child by Di Fuyi’s side.
