Chapter 727 – Simple, Right?
After Miaomiao demonstrated his basic foundation as a swordsman, Tang Ting also used similar techniques. Again, the elders passed her right away with flying colors.
As both Tang Ting and Miaomiao easily earned 100 points, the local cultivators got fired up. They reviewed their pre-trained techniques for a moment before they stepped up on the platforms and requested to show their skills.
The result was not surprising. All hardworking youths easily got through this test with over 70 points. For two days straight, all 33,000 local cultivators got their turns.
Most of the local cultivators passed the first round and the third round. Now, they only needed one more to officially become a part of the sect.
On the other hand, the players had a hard time mimicking the movements. They spent the entire week trying to understand the essence of each move.
When the players were called to perform the moves they had learned, they ended up embarrassing themselves. Even Chase, who Miaomiao had secretly raised, got an average score of 50 as he could only mimic a few kendo moves.
The third round took the longest to measure all players as the elders could only judge roughly 3,000 players per hour. In the end, this examination round got delayed by half a month.
Once the round was finished, many players left the area and were crestfallen. These players failed every round, and they could no longer take another test. Even their game menu sent system messages that they could not join the Celestial Sword Sect anymore.
A million players were reduced to 50,000, but all local cultivators were still there. The remaining players seemed to be experienced in fights and combat. But in reality, they were veteran gamers from other VRMMO games, who were experienced in sword fighting.
The elders were satisfied with the current candidates. One of them announced the end of the third round and announced the content of the fourth exam.
"Congratulations for reaching this round. From here on out, we shall test your experience in real combat!"
500 initiates of the sect got on the platforms. They came with wooden swords in their hands.
"The fourth round shall be settled in a friendly duel! As usual, everyone's cultivation base will be suppressed to the first stage. However, you will fight our initiates, whose cultivation base is limited to the 2nd stage!"
"Huh?"
This was the first time that the local cultivators had heard of such an exam. In the past, the sect's elders never used this method.
It was common knowledge that a 1st-stage cultivator was weaker than a 2nd-stage cultivator in terms of physique and Qi. Most muscle tempering realm cultivators couldn't use Qi while the bone refining realm cultivators were physically stronger and had a denser volume of Qi.
In short, 1st-stage cultivators were less likely to defeat any 2nd-stage cultivator in a fair duel.
Sima Yi flew toward the elders. He took over the role as the leading overseer.
"My name is Sima Yi, and I shall be the overseer of this round. The content of the test is simple. You must either defeat one of our initiates to get the full score or withstand their attacks for 10 minutes to pass. If you get hit by any attack, your points will be deduced. And if you are defeated within 10 moves, you get zero points!"
Miaomiao and Tang Ting rubbed their hands as they were looking forward to beating down their opponents to a pulp. Chase was also excited.
Without hesitation, the trio picked a platform and reserved their place right away. They didn't even bother checking who they were facing.
Sima Yi continued, "During the duel, you may only use one of our wooden swords, and the array will seal all your Qi and senses to match the restrictions. You may not kill your opponent, and the opponent will not kill you. Although they won't kill you, they will not hesitate to beat the hell out of you! Good luck!"
Miaomiao laughed. He patted the wooden sword in his hand and gazed at his opponent.
The opponent was a muscular man with a wooden bastard sword. He sneered at Miaomiao.
"I have heard about you, young master Mao Miaomiao! I know that you're strong. But under the seal array, you're nothing!"
Miaomiao rolled his eyes and swung the wooden sword in his hand once.
BOOM
The wind slash, produced by the swing, suddenly appeared and collided with the muscle man. Before he could get into a fighting stance, he was blown off the platform.
"Winner, Young Master Mao Miaomiao! 100 Points!"
Four outer disciples at the sides of the platform laughed and declared the winner right away. One of them retrieved Miaomiao's wooden sword and bowed toward him.
BOOM
An initiate from another platform got knocked off the stage as well. Tang Ting stood at the center of the square ring, scoffing at her opponent.
"Too weak!"
BOOM
Someone flew off the stage, too. However, it was Chase.
The young player cried as he lay on the ground below the platform.
"This test is bullshit! I can't possibly defeat a level 200 NPC! This test is impossible!"
Miaomiao overheard Chase's complaints. He cackled.
.
Two days quickly passed. The fourth round was over, and 83,000 people had gone through a rough fight.
After this round, 75,000 candidates were eliminated as they failed three tests. Among the remaining 8,000 candidates, only 500 were players.
Chase was relaxed as he already passed the first three rounds. He failed the fourth, but he could still play around with the last challenge.

Miaomiao and Tang Ting, on the other hand, were the only people that passed all four tests. They also competed for the first rank so that the winner could have sex with the loser.
After a long arduous month of waiting and watching noobs players getting smurfed by local cultivators, Mao Shan came out to start the fifth round.
"Congratulations for making it through to the last round. I'm sure that many of you have already qualified to become our sect's initiate while some of you are competing to become an outer disciple. Of course, if you pass all five rounds, you can challenge an inner disciple to a duel to take their seat right away!"
Everybody looked at Tang Ting and Miaomiao, who had a perfect scores. They expected them to become inner disciples soon.
"The next round is a little different. You will not be as dangerous as the other tests. However, we will temporarily seal all your five senses, and you will need to block one attack from a random location. Simply, right? Oh, of course, Qi is not considered a sixth sense. We'll seal your cultivation base again."
In short, this would be a test of sixth sense. Without the sense of sight and hearing, most sword practitioners became as weak as an infant. However, a good cultivator could live without them by honing their sixth sense.
The local cultivators gulped as they never heard of this test before. They wondered how someone could awaken their sixth sense without using Qi.
"Now. Let's begin. How about we show them how it's done. Mao Miaomiao, Tang Ting, come up on the platform. I'll personally test both of you myself."
Miaomiao and Tang Ting leaped onto the platform where Mao Shan had been standing. Although Miaomiao and Mao Shan were father and son, they didn't speak to each other like a family.
Mao Shan suddenly erected a soul domain, covering the entire platform with his transparent dome. However, as soon as it appeared, Miaomiao and Tang Ting could no longer see or hear anything. All their Qi senses were blocked, and they could no longer feel their body, smell, or taste the air.
Without five senses, anyone would feel odd as if their body didn't belong to them.
Miaomiao and Tang Ting's eyes became colorless and dull. Even though they moved around, they could no longer see anything.
Mao Shan clapped his hands and black clothes wrapped around Miaomiao and Tang Ting's heads. Their ears were plucked with transparent jell as well.
While they were confused, Mao Shan brought out two pieces of rocks and flickered one of them toward Tang Ting.
Suddenly, Tang Ting kicked the ground and leaped backward. She ended up dodging the rock.
Mao Shan smiled and turned to his son. He winded up like a baseball pitcher and threw the last rock at Miaomiao's face at the speed of sound.
Miaomiao also reacted. Without looking at the rock, he pointed his finger at the incoming rock and flickered it, firing it back toward the thrower.
Mao Shan raised his hand and grabbed it. He burst into laughter.
"Done! See? It's a simple test. Anybody with a good sixth sense can easily pass this round!"
The crowd below the platform cursed Mao Shan in their mind.
'Simple my ass! That is your son and your daughter-in-law! You must be cheating!'
While Miaomiao and Tang Ting were going through the fifth round, a young man stood in his room, admiring his father's custom-made game capsule.
It had been two months after the game had been launched, and he was eager to join in for the fun.
The young man opened the game hatch and entered the capsule. However, his bicolor cat also got inside and snuggled on top of his chest.
"Mu-Nyang, I'm about to play a game. You can't be here," complained the young man.
"Munya."
"Do you want to play with me?"
"Munya."
"Sorry, but you can't."
"Munya!"
The cat smiled and closed his eyes, trying to sleep on top of him.
The cat's owner dryly laughed and reopened the game hatch. He tossed his cat out. Then, he closed the hatch.
The cat owner didn't notice that his cat's fur got on his game suit when the machine was activated.
After the cat owner fell asleep and his soul was transferred elsewhere, the bicolor cat's expression changed. He turned toward the orange cat nearby.
"Munya!"
"Mew?"
"Munya-Munya!"
"MEW!"
Two cats jumped on top of the game capsule's hatch. The bicolor cat and the orange cat spat a drop of their blood essence and merged them together. Then, the mixed blood of the two cats phased through the glass hatch and entered the body of their owner.
"Nyahahaha, munya!"
The bicolor cat laughed in Mu-Nyang's voice.
