A bit later than the shimmering last light that the dusk had to offer. The lands of my unnamed kin started to tremble.

"A bad omen," the elder next to us muttered, obnoxiously.

Till that moment, me and some other kids were playing with rocks. A throwing game where the one that landed the most stones in their designed hole would win. I had won one out of three as they were taller and more skilled than me.

The trembling made the pebbles shake, causing one of mine to fall into the hole, granting me a miraculous second victory, and placing me ahead.

"How in the world did you do that!?" Ryan questioned as he looked with indignation at me and Rob.

"That's not fair Rain!"

"It wasn't my doing..." I looked down, defenseless at their comments. The land had shaken and they had lost, yet they thought I was the one behind it. If I had such power, I would've made the earth under the trolls rupture and trap them in the darkness.

"It was just luck I swear!" I attempted to justify, causing them to cross their arms with distrust in their eyes.

"Quiet you three!" We went into silence as the elder shouted in agony, coughing twice afterward as if he was in pain.

My grannie's gentle hand patted the man's back.

"Than-" a third cough followed, tainting his hand with blood. "Thank you, Riny."

At such words, she nodded with a faint smile.

The trembling had been strong enough to shake our side of the island, causing the black and brown-looking birds to fly in disarray. Yet it had been a single one, causing me to wonder what had happened in reality.

Once a year, the island shook for a long time. Rumors mentioned the dancing festival of the trolls.

However, we were quite far from that time.

"Something's not right," the elderly man, oldest of all, chief of the village, kept pronouncing such eerie words.

My chest became tight at them, pondering what could be happening. From the growing anxiety, my feet grew roots on the floor, remaining frozen on it.

It was not till the moment my eyes followed the movements of the birds above the trees that reality sank.

The purple-ish-looking sun looked black. And as if this wasn't scary enough, it also looked like it was approaching us at great speed.

The tensed muscles in my body stretched suddenly as I tried to react. The pain overruled the dullness in me causing a shout to escape between my lips.

"Ah!"

Their eyes noticed where mines were looking and before I knew it, the brothers ran to me, pushing my body to the side.

I fell with my back on the mud, being enveloped by some of it.

The darkness reflected in my pupils. The image was that of a black sun crashing on us with all its mighty self. The surrounding land rose from the impact lifting our bodies, the wetness, and all the ground crumbled.

It was not until the confusion was installed in our brains that despair took its place.

My body that was sent flying took a few seconds before landing.

To my continued fortune, I landed on a pool of mud, turning into a dark brown almost black figure.

My vision blackened as I sunk a bit into it.

Even in this numb state, something began bothering me.

'What's that?' The continued sounds baffled in terrifying urges. The mud in my ears caused me to not hear in optimal condition. In fact, everything sounded bizarrely creepy.

There were sounds of twigs breaking in half. Something like screams, but not those familiar ones of my kin.

It was worse, darker.

Aside from the stinky smell of mud, my nose caught the scent of an even nastier thing.

Hadn't it been for my nose being somewhat full of wet earth, I would've puked at this horrifying odor.

Memories flowed inside my brain, connecting every dot. Together the different pieces allowed me to come to a conclusion. And I who couldn't accept it started screaming in my mind alone.

'Save me, save me.'

It was just like that time. I knew it was. How could I possibly forget? The resentment of my inability to save them. The hatred tightened my guts.

But neither of these overwhelmed the increased hatred that shook my very core. The beating of life within me struck the iron bars around as if it was caged inside a cell.

'Die trolls! Die!'

The madness shook within me as I took a seat, revolting against this defenseless feeling of being powerless.

My eyes opened and the peak of my emotions had an irreversible change.

I saw the great height of the troll right in front of me. My vision scrolled over every inch of it: from its ugly blistered green and disgusting feet to its long and thick legs.

The middle was the most surprising thing, there was a third leg of sorts, smaller than the rest, but still bigger than my entire self.

Tears escaped the corner of my tender eyes, as I saw the worst possible scenario that I could picture.

My headless grannie, stood stuck in its grip.

The feelings disappeared into a void along with my voice.

Following this shock, despair removed every single ounce of strength from my body.

Thus, I allowed myself to sink back into the mud, becoming one with it.

My consciousness faded almost completely allowing the many voices in my mind to slowly disappear.

Death had arrived in a short manner for my kin.

Could it have been fated?

This senseless misery...
