Negotiation success!!

It might not look like me, but I find acting tough in this world a notch more difficult. It’s weird, right? After all, in this world, I have superpowers!

The thing is… It can only be that. I am scared.

Yes, scared.

Who wouldn’t? I am pretty much deprived of information.

My acting tough attitude stems from the fact that I know I can get away with it. In my old world, I can get away from most of the troubles I caused, because— I can cheat my way out.

Also in my old world, I am either behind a computer screen when causing trouble or always have a plan B when committing the trouble personally. Most importantly of all, people back in my old world don’t have superpowers…

Yes, superpowers. On the contrary to 'superpowers' spurring me to go wild, it has actually become a severe reminder for me that any time of the day… someone stronger than me might suddenly pop up.

I recall my fight with the lich, Kihersen Pluma. It’s true that it was a one-sided beating. On my part who was doing the beating, I can’t help but feel that it’s kind of too easy. The only reason however that it’s easy is because… I wasn’t holding back… Items, items, items… I abused them like how a cheater would…

However, I am no longer that cheater.

My resources are finite and with no cheats to rely on, I am now but a mortal. It’s not like I transmigrated into this world with a cheat engine intact.

Still, all of these problems can be solved if I have information. Information is a cheat in its own right. If used properly, I believe that even gods can be felled… No, scratch gods… I meant, even the richest capitalists can be felled. I already did it, so it’s not hard to imagine.

Solomon Academy of Magic— Library.

Standing stiffly with a book in hand, I skimmed the contents of the several history books from the shelf one at a time. With my intelligence attribute, attaining most of the information is a cinch. It’s not like I have to memorize them word by word.

So, why read history books?

Don’t I have to start preparing already for the weekly open lecture as per the Headmaster's request? It’s not like, kids want to be taught history. Even during my childhood, I find history to be bothersome.

I already have a topic in mind that is appropriate for every level regardless of strength. However, that can wait for another time. For now, I have to fill in the blanks in my head after the cataclysmic Magic Eruption era.

Borrowing the words from the books, apparently, the Magic Eruption era, is what this world’s inhabitants perceived as the forced grand scale PVP of the game. AKA the final event and fight for the easter egg. And the main characters of it? The Players whom this world’s inhabitants perceived as Immortal Champions… Suddenly, a chill was sent in my spine.

Perhaps, are the NPCs of the game alive the whole time? I recall my pillaging and casual slaughter back in the game. Though my game character’s memories have assimilated into mine, I still feel detached from it.

This is morally incapacitating…

And I like it. Hehehehe…

Speaking of Players, or Immortal Champions as they call them… A thought struck me. Am I still immortal? I would love to find out. But I lack the courage… Sigh…

“A magic fog ravaged the continents, converging to the center of the world. The final battle, now the Ruins of Yore, commenced. All of the immortals are dead, not one alive to be seen. Their legend passed and their magic was inherited, a new world arose from their ashes. Magic became the centerpiece of the world once again, birthing new civilizations time and again. Perchance, when magic returns to its peak, the magic fog will also return…” I read, and the words came out of my mouth. It’s a very interesting passage. But…

Where is the Final Champion? The lich addressed me as such, so why it isn’t here? Curious…

“That was a passage of Von Deaux. It’s rather controversial, but it managed to become one of the greatest mysteries of the world.” Suddenly, out of nowhere, a dark-haired nerd spoke to me.

Typical of their kind, he wears glasses, streamlined grey robes, and has an intelligent bearing. He seems soft-spoken, but I won’t be fooled. His gaze has a sharp glare to it as if it can kill. Rarely my intuition goes wrong, but since he started this conversation in the first place, it won’t be bad if I were to indulge him.

“Are you from this academy?” I asked.

“No, just a passing scholar on his way to Irileth Empire. How about you?”

“A new employee of the academy. Just a lowly grunt, don’t mind me." I downplayed my status in the academy to put him off guard. No one can refute me either as I am a new hire. "What do you mean, controversial?” I asked.

“It’s because Von Deaux is a worshipper of the Immortal Champions. That’s the public story to it, however, that’s not all there is… It’s the implications of his words that are the cause of controversy. It was interpreted many times by different scholars. The most famous of them all is that when magic return to its peak, the people of this world will also gain immortality like the Immortal Champions of old…”

“Immortality? That interpretation is too lame for my liking. It won’t just end with immortality. People will start to be greedy for more. Murder will be a common occurrence, chaos will proliferate… fuck…” I suddenly blurted out, but it’s not a lie. Player Killings, Guild’s monopolization… all kinds of preposterousness would occur if suddenly everyone gets to be immortal.

I am saying this not just out of game logic, but also because of my understanding of the human mind. And my take on this? Immortality will fuck up the values of any intelligent creature in existence.

Mr. Scholar here looked taken aback by my sudden words. Can’t help him with that.

“Such insight,” He complimented. “May I have the opportunity of knowing your name? I am Zedrick by the way.”

Why not?

“Wally, just call me Wally.”
