The light of dawn slipped into the girl’s room. Leyla, who’s been working for the guild for more than three years now, was sitting at her desk completing some paperwork. In her bed, the little girl sent by Ashura was sleeping quietly.
It was only six in the morning. However, Leyla had to wake up before the opening hours to complete the documents related to the tragedy that happened a good couple of days ago.
Several mutilated bodies were found in the living room of a rundown house, along with bloody runes that were used for a summoning ritual. Also, a small crater was formed not far from the place in question and several stalls were destroyed during a fight that took place.
By the time the guild found out it was way too late. All those people were killed over a week, not one day, and the whole thing didn’t catch the eye of one adventurer.
Luckily, even if the crime scene had been set on fire, the girl’s special eye allowed her to get a quick glimpse back in time. This is how they found out that a letter was behind the whole tragedy.
“Why am I even doing this anymore?” Leyla whispered to herself, careful not to be heard by anyone who might’ve been just outside her room.
A tear rolled down the girl’s cheek as she stood up and left the room. In a drawer, hiding behind a stack of papers, was a light orange letter.

“An invitation to the festival tonight? From Leyla?!”
It was hard for Saori to believe that Leyla would ask her out.
“Really?” She didn’t really want love, she was more interested in having sex rather than feelings for someone.
“Now hold your tits, kiddo. If you’re invited to a festival, it doesn’t mean that person is after your love. Maybe she wants to help a dumb brute like you find some friends.” Anta replied, noticing the girl was blushing.
“That’s perfect then.” The girl smiled joyfully. She was really happy that Leyla wanted to spend more time with her, especially if it was the kind of time she hoped for.
“All right, break time is over. Get back to punching that rock until you make a hole in it from three meters away.”
“My father tried to teach me the same thing, but it’s so difficult…”
“Just get better at punching. This is the last thing you have to do for the day, so put everything you’ve got into it. Once you’re done, we’ll get ready for the festival.”
“Yesssss! This is so exciting.” The girl continued her training.
The old woman left, “Find me at the guild in the village in three hours.”
“Don’t worry, I’ll be there, gran!” Saori shouted from afar.
The beast girl closed her eyes and took a moment to regain her focus, then threw another punch toward the rock.

Leaving the village behind, Sagurou was now on his way to the dense forest where the witch was recently spotted. He had already told Saori that yesterday’s training session was their last one as he had urgent matters to attend to.
“Leyla, I hope you can handle the guild as the new master. I know you’re not an outstanding fighter, but you are smart and capable. You will make for a great leader.”
The following steps felt like a true burden. Each meter was bringing him closer to his death and he knew it. Stop? Impossible, it was like his own brain wanted him dead now.
“It is incredible what a simple letter from a witch can do. This feeling is so awful. I feel disgusted with the world itself and I start hating everyone around me. Not to even mention that my heart is telling me to find the witch and hug her as if she was my only salvation.”
Sagurou’s mind was strong and well-trained. He always managed to stay ahead of his feelings and do the right things. Yet now, he felt powerless, weak, and emotionally unstable. The man was almost crying for himself.
One mile into the forest, the swordsman stopped.
“I know you’re here, you disgusting otherworldly cannibal. You being born was the world’s most pathetic mistake. I don’t know what god we’ve angered to deserve such cruelty. Ever since you witches were brought into this world, everything went to ruin.”
Being able to talk like that seven days after he was given the letter was a complete miracle. He didn’t comply with most of the requirements written inside either, yet he was on the verge of death.
Sagurou slowly grabbed the hilt of his sword with his shaking hand and pulled it out. He knew that despite the terrible condition he was in, he could still fight at his peak for a couple of minutes until his heart would cease to beat forever.
That’s when he started hearing footsteps. Something massive was coming for him and it was close, yet due to the density of the forest, he couldn’t see anything. The closer the person was getting, the more the earth shook every time she stepped on it.
Minutes later, the swordsman’s headless body was hanged upside down on a branch. He had already been torn apart and his intestines consumed, along with the heart and most of the flesh.
“What a great snack.”
Dragnya was sitting down patting Sagurou’s head gently, satisfied with her meal. The fearsome man that once fought alongside Salan, Saori’s father, had been ripped apart by the witch as if he was just a doll.
The expression that remained on his face was one of absolute terror, his eyes were completely white and looked like they were about to burst out.
“Succubus, it’s time for you to prove your worth. Show those folks out there pure hell. Give them a taste of what hell is like.”

The Fifteenth of November was a much darker night than usual. The moon was nowhere to be seen and the stars were hiding behind the endless battalions of clouds, denying the natural light of the sky from reaching the surface of the earth.
Saori noticed something was wrong while she was getting changed into the lovely new flower-style long kimono that her gran left for her at home for the festival. It was more like a bad feeling that wouldn’t give her peace.
“Shit, shit, shit. I hope she is not upset. I should’ve been at the guild two hours ago but I lost track of time while I was training. I am even late for the festival.” The girl was talking to herself as she was getting ready.
She checked herself out in the window and her eyes sparkled with delight, “Holy shit, I’m cute!”
Saori grabbed a last couple of things for Leyla before leaving. As she rushed down the stairs with a bag in her hand, the beast girl remembered her mother’s words, “Be careful out there, sweetheart. At nights like this, when things are darker than usual, evil comes out to play. It gets out of bed and swallows.”
Felt strange. It was like a warning that something terrible was about to happen and she had to be careful.
“Yes, yes. I know, mom. You don’t have to tell me twice.”

“Antaaaaaaaaaaaaa!”
Deciding to ignore the familiar voice, the woman slapped the muscular man on his back to encourage him to try his luck one more time.
It was a simple game with a fifty percent chance of winning in which the participant had to pick a side and do a coin flip. For the cost of one coin, he could get a full bag with coins worth a hundred times more. Little did people know that the witch was using magic to make sure they would never win.

Realizing what she was doing, Saori felt a bit disgusted, but also proud at the same time, “Okay…”
“Are you sure you have time to watch this?” Anta said, pointing with her cane toward three people coming from behind her.
Leyla and two other men from the guild were casually walking arm in arm, chatting and laughing.
“Well, then, boys… I’ll leave you to it. Have fun and see you at the story-sharing stand later tonight.” The receptionist girl waved goodbye to the two and went to Saori with a confident smile on her face.
The moment she turned, a pair of well-rounded boobs kissed her face. The beast girl had jumped in her arms happy to see her again and was suffocating her between the tits.
“Chill, chill. You’re killing me.” Leyla tapped the other girl on the elbow a few times, asking her to stop, but Saori had no self-awareness at that moment and only hugged her even harder.
“Will she be fine?” One of the adventurers that was with her a second ago asked the other.
“She fell in love with that girl at first sight. While I saw her many times taking the new girls in the back room for a good time, she’s never been so happy around another girl before. I’m sure she has feelings for her. Why not let them be, buddy?” The reply came from the other adventurer.
His name was Goro, a thirty-five years old man with a long past at the Shields of Honor guild. He was neither handsome nor strong looking, but his kindness could be read in his eyes alone. This guy’s soul was able to sympathize with almost anyone. People at the guild would often go to him for advice or when they needed a shoulder to cry on.
“Come on. Let’s give those two some space. How about we check out that stand over there, ay?”
Leyla decided to take Saori to a more secluded wooden room just beyond the nicely decorated stands.
“You said you wanted to tell me more about why this festival takes place every year? In a private room as well? Yes!” The beast girl was smirking and watching Leyla from the corner of her eye.
“It’s not what you think, dumb ass… I feel like there is something you should know.”
“About your feelings?”
Leyla was slowly getting irritated by the girl’s mocking, so she changed the subject, “Why are you wearing nothing under that kimono? I could perfectly feel everything when you jumped on me.”
“Are we not having sex tonight?”
“…”
Saori burst out laughing at Leyla’s awkward silence.
Leyla was shocked. She didn’t know this wildly honest side of Saori.
Before she could react, the black-haired girl was pushed by the beast with her back against a tree. Saori pressed her forehead against hers and smiled, revealing her incredibly sharp canine teeth. One of the beast’s hands was in her hair and the other was holding her by the chin.
Her heart was beating fast, not only because she was so close to the girl that she loved, but also because of the sudden change in behavior. Living for years at the guild, she encountered many impressive fighters, but the speed of the beast outmatched everyone.
“You’re adorable, Leyla, and I like that about you.” Saori said before she licked her cheek with her wet tongue, “But I am a beast you can’t handle. Stop getting attached to me because you will get devoured. Physical attraction and carnal pleasures are fine, but I will tear away any trace of feelings.”
The beast girl was insane, powerful, and lived in a completely different world, or at least that’s what felt like for the receptionist.
Leyla couldn’t believe what just happened, she got rejected before she even confessed. While the beast girl’s attitude was a bit scary, it was also hot.
“Most times, insanity is a curse. Yet, it feels like your warrior spirit transformed it into a blessing. I feel like the more insane you get, the more powerful you’ll be. You know what they say… Madness empowers the beast.”
“How can you tell? Can you see into the future?”
“No, but the past is no stranger to me.” She answered as she grabbed the bag from Saori’s hand.
The talk they just had made them feel like they didn’t know much about each other.
Having entered the small wooden room, the two were greeted by a multitude of masks with diverse facial expressions and an overwhelming amount of dust that made Saori sneeze instantly.
“You have probably noticed the demonic masks hanging by most of the stands in the festival. The drawings for sale with the same theme, the necklaces, and the board games, all these are there to show respect for demons.”
“Excuse me?” The girl’s mind was blown by the story, “Don’t tell me you guys believe that by doing this you keep the evil away? You’re giving it power. It is a free pass to your souls and it is feeding on them.”
“What? T-T-That’s not… t-true.” A tear fell down Leyla’s cheek as her voice trembled.
“I hate you.” She added quietly as if she was scared not to get heard.
Saori felt like the story was repeating itself. It was way too much of a similar situation to the one in the secluded village she woke up to months ago. She had lost everyone back then apart from Anta.
“I hate you.” The receptionist repeated, but this time in her mind.
“Leyla, don’t tell me you received a letter and you’re acting on behalf of the witch now.” The beast girl was angry.
“Calm down. I actually brought you here for another reason. See those demonic masks on the wall? The one symbolizing the succubus is cracked and almost split open. You know what that means?”
“No, what?”
“The succubus is among us now. I wanted to warn you not to fight it.”
When hearing this, a scary thought crossed her mind, “Was the succubus the one wearing her dad’s armor? Has she been studying me since the day I first arrived in the village? If so, that makes total sense.”
“I gotta go.” Saori turned around and left immediately. The girl was afraid that something might happen at the festival while she was away with Leyla, so she rushed back.
As Saori’s outline faded in the dense mist outside, the receptionist from the guild, the unofficial new master, smiled evilly, “I hate you. Now I don’t regret anything. You’ve actually been a scum who doesn’t care about other people’s feelings all along, a heartless beast.”
Luckily, Saori’s fear faded away as she saw the villagers having fun, drinking, and playing games together.
“What are you spacing out for? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.” Anta asked Saori, looking perfectly fine, “Go to the scary stories-sharing stand and have some fun. I know you’ve been through a traumatic experience, but try to get over it. Emer is not here.”
“Everything feels so wrong, the fog, the masks…”
“It’s just some people having fun, don’t worry. Ghost stories and festivals like this are not out of the ordinary. And don’t forget that I am here too. I’m a witch after all.” Anta closed an eye and flexed her non-existent muscles.
