The dense fog in the village led to difficulties in coordination and communication. The adventurers positioned on the left side of the main road could barely see and discern the signs coming from those on the right side.
A couple of people tried to check on the monster but didn’t catch as much as a glimpse of it.
“Why is it taking so long? Why’s the monster doing nothing?” one of the adventurers asked quietly.
“We just have to wait,” Shigeru replied quickly, trying to look confident and calm. Everyone could tell he was just as scared as the rest of them, though.
A minute had passed and still nothing. It was weird. Had Anta subjugated the monster by herself?
*
Saori had just come out of the house in which she killed the naked succubus, when a boy, about ten years of age, red-haired, freckled all over the face, bumped into her and fell on his butt. Just from the looks, he was well taken care of by his parents.
“Aww, that hurt!” the boy cried out and gave the young girl a reproachful look.
He saw the disgust on her face. She had a few traces of blood on her lips and many more on her right hand.
“This kid… As if it was my fault…”
Without reacting to the blood, he got up and ran away, or at least that’s what he tried to do.
“Not so fast, kiddo.” The girl said, grabbing him by the collar and lifting him in the air, “Why are all these people running away? Did a monster show up?”
Several other villagers sprinted past Saori like a herd of scared deer, yelling, pushing each other, and leaving dust behind.
The boy struggled and jerked, “Yes, it is freaking huge. Now let me go!”
Without further ado, Saori let him go and headed toward the place the crowd was running from.

“Enough is enough!” Anta decided to execute the next part of her plan, which was to significantly weaken the monster.
She lifted the chained skull and recited a spell in the same weird language that only witches knew. Observing that it didn’t work, Anta hurriedly tried again.
“Why? Why is it not working? I should have full control over my own creation… Is it because I used Emer’s skull?!”
If she lacked any kind of authority over Shina, then her plan was doomed.
“I-I-It is not going to work…” Scared, the old witch dropped the skull, which fell to the ground with a dull thud, “Damn you, Emer! How did you know?!”
The plan was to stop Shina after the spell weakened her by making her trip over the empowered chain and then subjugate her with all the weapons they had at their disposal. Anta would then use the skull to trap the monstrosity inside. It was supposed to be a façade for the public eye to see both how dangerous the devouring witch was and how strong the adventurers were when fighting together.
All this to get as many people as possible to agree to go on a witch hunt, both the commoners and the experienced fighters.
Unfortunately for them, the plan had already failed and the whole population in the area was now in grave danger.
“Saori, where are you? We need you right now!” Anta tried to communicate with her telepathically, but she was already too weakened from the recent summoning.

“PUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUULL!” Shigeru ordered after barely noticing the massive hand through the thick mist.
Shina was already much closer than they thought.
Having been very attentive, the adventurers tightened their grips and pulled the chain simultaneously from both sides with all their might.
The result? The “indestructible” chain didn’t move an inch.
“Hardeeeeeeeeer! Pull harder!”
Again and again, they tried to pull it, but it was extraordinarily difficult.
“WHAT ARE YOU DOING?! I SAID PULL!” Shigeru screamed once again.
“Shigeru, I don’t know if you can see it from the back, but l-l-look…” With his finger, a fatty man pointed toward the issue.
The monstrosity had already stepped onto the chain without them noticing. Even worse, she had an evil grin on her face and was looking at them as if saying “I got you!”.
The adventurers were now in a flight or fight situation.
“You foooools, let go of the chaaaaaaaaaaain!”
By the time they realized the danger they put themselves in by still holding onto the chain, it was already too late.
Shina had lifted it into the air along with all the adventurers that didn’t let go, throwing them toward the sky with ease.
“Attack!” At the same time, observing that the situation got out of control, Justav and some of the party jumped off the roofs with weapons in their hands, while others shot arrows.
A handful of people bumped into each, while some that came flying up, thrown by Shina, were penetrated by arrows.
Something that not even the old witch predicted happened… Anta’s creation shared her master’s ability to get into people’s minds. Therefore, she knew the plan all along, which explained the late, silent approach, and the chaotic result.
“Don’t give up! We outnumber her. Attack!” a man screamed as he managed to get close and tried to cut one of the monster’s limbs with his axe.
From a finger flip that he didn’t even see coming, his legs came off and his upper body smashed into a wall, blood scattering everywhere.
Several more attacked, but the monstrosity had enough limbs to deal with them, especially already knowing what they were about to do.
People were dying left and right as if they were wheat before a reaper. It was a tragedy that resulted from careless witchcraft, which was what frightened the people on this planet the most.
A big shining axe, spinning into the air as if it was a boomerang, managed to cut several monster limbs before returning to its owner, but they grew back in a matter of seconds.
“That axe… it belongs to Masaru, the greatest adventurer at Shields of Honor.”

When they heard the name, people’s hearts were once again filled with hope.
“Masaru, you came back!” Justav screamed happily.
“Looks like you’ve got a troublesome one here, folks.” The warrior said while catching the spinning axe with precision.
Covered in shining blue armor from head to toe, the man was wearing a devilish mask with horns, a mask that was covering his whole face leaving little to no space for breathing. The helmet alone could intimidate an opponent.
It was heavy and had multiple layers of protection. The bulky medieval armor was stretching everywhere on his body, covering almost every inch. Attached to his forearms, several small blades resembling shark dorsal fins were aligned.
On his back, Masaru had a fine-looking green shield with the guild’s sign painted on it. He was the Shields of Honor’s pride and protector.
“Can’t have you destroy my home—” Before finishing his sentence, Shina’s massive fist came toward him with the speed of a cannonball.
Taken by surprise and without time to dodge, the man turned around on the spot to use the shield on his back to defend himself. The monster’s arm kept on stretching until its opponent was smashed against the wall and his armor was bent and broken into pieces.
Despite the overwhelming difference in power, the fighters kept attacking Shina from all directions, this time with new forces joining them. Maron and Goro arrived from the festival ready to help their comrades.
“Let’s help Masaru with all we’ve got. Don’t slow down, good people!” Justav shouted as loud as he could, strengthening the fighting spirit of the adventurers.
However, all their effort was in vain, they were quickly dying one by one as the monster had plenty of arms that regenerated every time they were cut. The courageous fighters tried several times to aim for its head, but it was impossible to reach due to the monster’s size and its ability to read their minds.
“That is enough. I’m so sorry…” Anta was on the ground listening to the carnage that unfolded in front of her, without being able to help in any way. She was way too weakened to do anything.
“Instead of helping, I brought more chaos and destruction… I deserve to die.”
She stretched her hand out in front and whispered a few words. The tip of her wand shined for a second which was proof that the spell worked. The witch managed to do the minimum required. It was up for the beast to put an end to the carnage now.
“S-Saori, please, help them…” The woman was praying for the beast girl to hear her voice at this point.
A yell suddenly interrupted her thoughts. Masaru ran past her as he was fearlessly heading toward Shina. Pieces of his broken armor were falling off him at every step.
“S-Stop! She knows…” Her voice could barely be heard.
“AAAAAAAAA!” The man jumped over a limb that attacked him from the side and managed to cut another one while in mid-air. He was now running on the trunk of the otherworldly creature holding the axe in front.
A green liquid came flying toward him as Shina bent its tail to aim for him, but Masaru countered it using his shield just in time. A moment of distraction was all it took for the man to lose that fight. Despite a lifetime of experience in fighting monsters, he was only a hard worker with little talent. His physical abilities, reaction times, and strength were all limited.
The man fell to the ground with a few broken ribs.
“Masaruuuuuuuuuu!” Justav screamed, worried for his pal.
More and more humans were losing their lives as the village’s main street was slowly painted red and decorated with corpses.
Realizing that most villagers had already been taken to safety, the fighters were now finally starting to retreat. But not all were escaping when turning their backs to Shina. It was a blood-curdling thing to do, but it was a must if they wanted to have the slightest chance of escaping alive.
“What kind of witchery is this?” an adventurer fell to his knees as reality kicked in again, as a feeling of weakness and hopelessness washed over him.
Seeing his comrade face to face with death, unwilling to run away, a fighter called out, “What are you doing, idiot?! RUUUUUN!”
Strangely, the creature lifted its gaze and looked at the small number of warriors left. It didn’t seem to pay any attention to them anymore. It was more interested in someone who was walking in the crowd.
People took a few steps to the side to make way for a young girl that was calmly approaching the terrifying Shina. She had a particular elegance and finesse. Slowly pulling the famed sword that belonged to their master out of its sheath, she smiled vaguely enough for the crowd to see her sharp teeth.
“It’s the beast girl.”
“Yes, the new girl is here…”
“Please do something, our village is dying… You gotta help us!” A crying woman grabbed the girl by the kimono. The despair could be seen on her face and heard in her voice.
Upon seeing that she stopped when she grabbed her, the woman calmed down a bit and let go without saying a word.
“I’m here to help.”
“Saori, doesn’t that blade belong to Sagurou? Did something happen to him?” Justav asked.
The only answer he got was a huge limb flying only ten inches above his head that crashed into the wall of the house beside him.
He and another couple of people in the crowd would’ve been dead if it wasn’t for the extremely fast and accurate sword swing of the girl that cut the limb and deviated the attack from its course.
“Amazing!”
A small misty wind came out of the girl’s mouth as she sighed. Saori didn’t even bother to turn around and check on the crowd.
“I don’t think I need it this time, but I’ll use it since you brought it to me, gran.”
She was holding the sword in one hand, while the other hand was resting on her hips. To the adventurers, it felt like the girl did not even see the monster as a threat.
“I think it is better if you all leave the area. It’s about to get messy.”
As if Shina felt threatened by those words, she attacked Saori with several arms that stretched out toward her.
The beast deflected the first one with a clean cut and began to advance once again.
Several more came one after another, sometimes even two simultaneously.
More windows, doors, and walls were falling apart as the monstrous limbs were perfectly slashed by the beast who was fighting one-handed. Swinging from side to side, spinning the sword into one hand by the handle, throwing the sword, and catching it before getting out of her reach, were all weird, but extremely efficient moves she used as she skillfully advanced through the barrage of blows.
The beast girl didn’t need to dodge anything as her skills improved significantly since she started her training. One hand was enough.
The gigantic Shina stretched her arms to the side between the houses and onto the dark alleys. She was planning to surprise the girl by attacking from different directions, so she sent her limbs around.
As the ground started to shake, numerous buildings fell to the ground and limbs attacked the beast from the sides and the back.
“Stupid. You will never have enough limbs to defeat me. Goodbye!” The girl said confidently from behind the monster as she flicked the blood off her sword.
The whole trunk of the monster had been cleaved in two and Shina’s head fell with a thud beside Saori, scattering dark blood everywhere.
While the monster foresaw the attack, her gigantic body was too slow, not allowing her to react fast enough. Any form of physical defense would’ve been in vain too.
The doom of Bird Valley Village had been avoided, but not without repercussions. A significant part was destroyed, many people lost their loved ones, and the traumatic experience would forever haunt those that remained.
Dozens of lives have been ruined.
